Official thread for the 2010 Princess 1/2 Marathon & 5k- REGSITRATION IS OPEN!

Hi everyone -

Last week, my training was less than ideal I did 8 on Sunday - which was great and ran once while I was in Disney for the weekend (Fri,Sat&Sun).

First the TM at AKV - are horrible!! They are old and have no cushion, which after running friday night I decided to just throw in the towel --- it did not help I was up since 3am (since lovely dh picked the 6am flight out to orlando-:headache:)

Bottom line - I was OK with taking an easy week and just running twice, I have really been doing great only missing 1 run in 5 weeks.

We flew home Sun night and was in bed by 1am and up at 6am to start the week and put my college professor hat on

I figured Mon, I needed to recover just from being so gosh darn tired, and Tue well the reality of back to work sunk back in. all of which I am OK with - honest~

Last night, I was still tired but I knew I needed to back on the program and start running again. After only doing 1 mile I became very weak and dizzy and just out of sorts, I was determined to complete the 3 miles and asked my husband to get me sports beans ......... something to help me finish.

I was dripping, but finished 3 -- although I felt horrible doing it and i was so sweaty for just doing 3 - not to be to personal but I when I did 8 miles i was the same hot sweaty mess. It does not make any sense to me what happend.

Maybe my body just wanted no parts to running - I dont know......but I am so puzzled.

Any suggestions what could have happened? or what i can do for it to NEVER happen again??

P.S. Since I have been home I have also stopped drinking coffee after dinner, so we ate dinner at 6:30 and I did my tm at 10:45pm (which is normal for me since i have 4 children - my 8 miles I did at 11pm - so the time is about the same)

Sounds like you were overtired and your body was just telling you to slow it down... it's ok to take time off, I think, because in the end it's going to make the runs you do better....

donnajean - Way to go!!

swim-mom - You know how many miles Disneyputs on your legs. if you were still feeling tired, it was too soon to run. Give yourself a little more time to get back in teh swing of things. Rule of thumb is that you have 2 weeks before any muscles starts going waway. SOmetimes a break will do wonders. Were you possibly under nourished too? That seems liek along time after dinner. Finally, sometimes we just have "Stonkers". Bad, miserable, rotten runs. DOn't let them get you down. If we didn't have the bad days, teh good days would not feel so good. :grouphug: Let yourself have a little break adn see how you feel next time.:wizard:

I don't know either... I have some days, like last Friday, when the 10 miles was no problem. And others, like yesterday, where 2 really, really sucked.

I am starting to think it might have something to do with what I ate (or didn't eat) the day before. I read somewhere that some kinds of fuel are not available for your body to use until the next day.

I am going to try eating something carby (like pasta) the night before my next training session and see how that goes.

FWIW, I have also way cut my calories the last month, down to 1200. So I think I have to be more careful about my energy sources and timing than someone who is eating more.

Off-topic... wtpclc/Carrie, I think I know you from an old DVC-related board?? Your typing gives you away! :goodvibes

Kat!! I knew your name rang a bell. MO, right? I get most of my info from DVCNews now, but miss many MO friends. Board time also went down greatly a couple years ago, so I had to pick and choose.

MO, yup! I haven't been over there in years. Like you, board time suffered a lot for a while, and it got all weird over there anyhow.

I will PM you my info... we should meet up! I will be down there with 6 women from another thread. I'm getting there on Wed night and leaving Tues AM, staying in a variety of places (CBR, Swalphin, BWV).

I think that was your body's way of saying "hey, I'm not quite ready to get moving again!" You have to listen to your body, girl! It always knows best.

Had a great run this morning! I had my best mile (outside) yet! Even though it was cold (about 20 degrees) and windy... But I solidered on! I did a 12:53, and for someone who had not run EVER 3 months ago, I think that's pretty good!!

:cheer2:, donnajean! You give me hope! :)

I pulled something today....hoping it gets better. My 2 yr old daughter decided to dart into a parking lot while I was getting her brother out of the car. I took off so fast, the muscle that goes above the knee up....quad area. Got home and have iced and elevated during naptime (theirs not mine), still hurting. not huge pain, but enough.

Yikes! :scared1: Thank goodness you caught her! Hope your leg feels better.

So glad you caught her! WIsh you had not hurt yourself. Rest it as much as you can. :wizard:

Brookie I hope you are feeling better.

I am starting to get worried..my time is not getting faster. I am putting the miles in and I will keep going. My time is 16:01-16:30 for my 8 mile outside in snow....hoping loosing the bulky clothes and stop lights helps.

Thanks! Hoping tomorrow everything is feeling normal, I skipped my naptime workout today, but hey I guess its a good excuse.

FYI...not sure if anyone reads the Touring Plans for Disney. They give you info on how busy the parks are and what parks to go to and avoid each day.

Here is the link....the number before the resort tells how busy they expect it to be on a scale of 1-10 (10 the busiest)

Our dilemma was whether to do Epcot on Friday or Saturday. On Friday is says to avoid Epcot...but the crowd number is 4, On Sat they recommend Epcot, but the crowd number is 7. Not sure what the best move would be.

Anyway, wanted to share this info if you are planning what parks you might want to go to on what day.

Don't worry! The excitement of the day will keep you moving for sure. You still have a month. If you are like me and running outside on snow/ice covered roads, you are looking down a lot making sure you don't hit an ice patch! You won't have to worry about that in Florida and will be able to focus more.

Good luck!!!

We are doing Epcot on Sunday. Drinking 'round the world is totally earned by then!!

That sounds fun, our flight leaves on Sunday night.

I'm leaving 3 kids (twin 2 yr olds and 7 yr old) with my hubby, leaving out Thurs evening through Sunday night. Not sure I can handle being away any longer....or if he can handle me being away much longer. I have already accepted the house will look like it has been hit by a tornado, but as long as everyone is safe, I suppose it is all good.

I thought about doing Friday evening through Monday....wasn't sure I would be able to walk the next day and enjoy though.....guess I will see this year how I feel that night and the next day. Next year (look I am saying next year) maybe we will do it differently.

My DH will likely do fine without me. In fact, he might be happier without me around to mess up the place!! We don't have kids, so I am his messy cross to bear!

I am driving down on Wed, and decided that I didn't want to have to drive 8.5 hours back on Monday because like you, I don't know how I will feel.

I don't think we are going to do much park touring on Sunday, probably some pool time, maybe a nap, and then meander into Epcot later in the afternoon to drink a bit and watch Illuminations. I have an AP so it doesn't really matter if I only go in for a few hours, if that makes sense.

Monday's plans will largely depend on my ability to walk!!

I hear you about abililty to walk. I have no idea how I will feel. I planned a waterpark day for the day after the race. I have a 3 and 5 yr old with me so I figure it won't me much walking.

I planned my vacation backwards, with the park days after the race! So I better be able to walk! ;)

For all afraid of not being able to walk after - The best thing to do is keep moving! Go back, shower. Take a cold tub (or ice bath for teh brave) or soak in teh pool a bit and then go. Oh, a massage does wonders too. If you keep moving, it won't be bad.
