Official thread for the 2010 Princess 1/2 Marathon & 5k- REGSITRATION IS OPEN!

I like Cliff Shot Gels personally, I don't like sport beans while i am in a race, it's too hard to chew and i get really thirsty with them.. The Gel is definately an "aquired" taste, it tastes like warm boogers. LOL

I need to research though, someone pointed out i shouldn't do the gels and powerade together much -- i need to find that post and where i can research that info... Anyone know??

And, as far as the 16 min mile thing.. As long as you allow yourself proper training time, you should be ok! I also found that wearing a pace band really kept me motivated, i checked it and my watch at every mile marker, and knew exactly where i stood time-wise. :) I printed mine out from the internet somewhere - i would just google "pace band" and see what comes up.

I have read in a few running books that drinking powerade or another comparable drink with the gels/beans, etc. leads to stomach upset and runners diarrhea. They mentioned that you should only drink water with them. I know that Gu Energy has a special water bottle where you can mix the gel with water or keep them separate. This is one of the online pages with the information.

Thanks for all the tips. :) I will defnitely try out all the different gels to see which flavors I can handle. I agree that the Jelly Beans do make you pretty thirsty. They are the tastiest option though.

I use clif shot blocks and clif shot electroylte lemonade drink together all the time, large amounts and I have never had a problem.

I guess it just depends on knowing what your body will take, I seem to know when to take a block rather than some drink.

I just got the Nike+ Sportband and it has a Pace function and it is pretty easy to use. I like the feature of being able to track my progress. It doesn't talk to you like the Nike+ for the iPod Nano, and iPhone 3Gs, but it isn't too big of a deal to look down at your wrist. :)

Several days ago, I sent an email to WDW Sports about the dining plan hoping for an end to all of the confusion. Unfortunately, the only thing I got was this:

Hi Meghan,
Please contact 407-939-IRUN
Thanks,
Disney Sports

Guess I'm back at square one! I will call soon and keep everyone posted. I know this sounds petty, but the dining plan really does save us money, is so much easier, and it's so nice to have all the meals paid for before we even arrive!

Rupert:

Last year the Princess was my first half marathon, anywhere! So, being Disney and all, DD and I had to stop for all the pictures! I wasn't worried about our time because there were a couple of hundred people behind us. When the results were printed, we were one of the last to officially finish!! It was so close! I kept saying, there were people behind us! Didn't matter. This year: fewer stops, fewer pictures and a Garman to track our pace. Don't skip all the pictures. Make sure that you get the ones coming through the castle and in front of the castle, plus Mickey and Minnie. Enjoy the whole, wonderful experience.

This year, I have signed up for the January half marathon. DH keeps saying I need to sign up for the Princess too, before I get closed out. I keep watching to see how the registration is going. Good luck with your training.

Does anyone know if there are any AP discounts for this?

Thanks Meg! :) Do they have the characters after the race too, or are your only opportunities to take pictures of them during the race? I hope there aren't lines to take pictures of them like during normal operating hours! I will definitely try to take pictures with all of them, but will watch my time as well. I guess it will all depend on how my time is by the time the race comes around. I can just see me now...I have 2 minutes to get a picture with Cinderella. :rotfl2: I over research everything and love statistics!

Thank you everyone for all your advice! It has been so helpful!

Just wanted to let everyone know that the 'Princess in Training' gear is available! I just got an email from WDW Endurance Events about signing up for the race, and it included information about the Princess in Training gear. (Hopefully this isn't a repeat post I was out of town for a few weeks!) :)

Quick question for anyone that did the Princess 1/2 last year...we are staying at the Caribbean Beach Resort (not one of the resorts offered thru the marathon endurance site, but we wanted the dining plan so went with this resort instead). I know we wont have transportation to the start, but we are planning on taking a taxi to the start...is there anything that I am missing that may make this NOT a good idea? After the race, I assume we can use the regular transportation from Epcot back to our resort?!?! Just wanted to see if anyone has done this in the past and if there is anything I should know about doing it this way?? Thanks

There are also skorts available on the website. They only go up to large though. I guess I need to focus on losing weight more seriously now.

Last year there were a few characters around after the race. I remember Chip & Dale, Donald, and Daisy. And yes, there were lines for the characters both during the race and afterwards. If you're concerned about your time during the race, another option is to wear your medal around the park afterwards. I did this last year, and had some fun interaction with the characters.

You shouldn't have any problem taking a taxi to the start. Last year CBR was an official hotel so I took the race bus for the Princess. But when I did the ESPN 5k at Hollywood Studios I took a taxi to the start, and took the regular bus back to the hotel. It was weird being the only person on the bus.

So I got an e-mail today about the 1/2 and mentioned that packages "are now available" guessing that I should call and see if it is really a package that includes the DDP...

Anyone else call already?

For the folks discussing the pace bands and worrying about getting them wet, etc., there are two other possible options:

Pacetats - it's a temporary tattoo that you place on the inside your arm to help keep you on track. I used one during my first half marathon, it was pretty helpful! They are a few bucks each and you can use them for either the full or the half (just cut it). Here's the website: http://www.pacetat.com/

Or the low-tech version - I made a friend at the starting line who simply wrote the pace times on her arm with a pen :)

Any one use the Nike + armband? (not the one that hooks to an ipod and talks to you... I have the wrong ipod for that) but the one that is more like a watch and is waterproof?

Thinking of asking for it for Christmas.

I got mine a couple weeks ago. It is nice and pink. The instructions that Nike gives you for it are really stupid (all in pictures), but I found an online site explaining more and they have videos on the Nike + site. It is really easy to use. The only bad thing would be if you like to run at night or early morning when the sun is out. The display does not glow, so I know that bothers some people. My wrists are very small, and it fits fine. Then, you just plug it into the USB port on your computer, it hooks up to the Nike + site and compares your data. You can add friends who also use Nike + (like from a running group you participate with) to see how things are going, or compete with them. I think it was worth the cost.

FYI - Just got off the phone with the Marathon Reservations people, and I was told the dining plan was not an option for marathon packages. I was told my only option to add it would be to cancel and book a regular package through the disney travel hotline. Back to square one....Maybe someone else will have better luck...????
