Official Star Wars Half Marathon Weekend - The Dark Side 2017

I do think it is appropriate to put your hand up to indicate that you are going to slow down. But be aware of your surroundings. Get to the side and make sure no one is directly behind you. That is what I do at least. I make sure that I am not going to impact anyone else if I decide to slow down.

should always let people know your intentions IMO. about 3 weeks ago I did a local half, (trying to make this bit family friendly) but a skinny small guy just cuts across and stops right in front of this huge football player guy. 250+lb men just dont stop on a dime.... ends up the small guy got ran over, think of a big rig truck vs a SMART car, the guy just looked at him and said a few obscenities, and how he needed to look where he was going.

Well skinny guy was right. He did need to look where he was going.

Another fun Disney anomaly is the faster runners that stop for pictures sometimes flash past the ones who just strolled by the photo op.

So all this talk of walkers and such, ya still have to be aware of the folks who stop for pics and still are comfy running their 7-9min/mile pace

Funny side note - I ran with a group at Princess who I believe stopped for every photo op, took pics with folks along the course who wanted to and were the nicest guys in the world! I was clicking along at about a 10 min/mile just enjoying life and they passed me and slowed to talk to me about 10 times.

I'm going to hope you misread the post. That situation is 100% on the skinny dude. If you are going to cut across race traffic and stop in front of faster people, you are pretty much asking to get run over.

The need to understand and be aware of your surroundings and before stopping for walk breaks is one of the key points that has been emphasized over the past few posts.

Skinny dude needed to apologize for causing a collision and learn a lesson from it.

Pretty certain they were referring to that as I read it. ie - The Skinny guy was right - he (skinny guy) needed to apologize.

The problem is those are contradictory statements. If skinny guy was right he's got no reason to apologize. If skinny guy needs to apologize, he's not right...

That's why I took "he" to refer to the big guy after the statement that "skinny guy was right".

Think of it with a wry sarcastic tone.....

No skinny guy was right as in he (skinny guy) needs to look where he (skinny guy) is going. Sometimes sarcasm just doesn't translate.

I am looking for some costume ideas for the 10k/Half. Maybe some socks? Not many costume options for men. I have two Star Wars Under Armour shirts. I feel like I need something else to up my Star Wars running game. Any suggestions?

A cool front descended into FL this weekend, so I've got surprisingly cool temps for my final back-to-back-to-back runs. On the one hand - yay! On the other, I was just started to feel acclimated to the heat. Oh well; it's not like I won't have 6 months of summer to get thoroughly acclimated lol!

Finished my last long run! I have been lurking mostly, but it has made a huge difference in staying on track. This will be my first half marathon and concludes a year+ build-up of run disney (princess 5k 2016, wine 10k 2016, princess 5/10k 2017) to change from an otherwise unhealthy life.

Until today I was nervous about finishing (especially with the corral chaos in front of me, as I'll be in the last corral), but I did my 12 miles in 3:11:11 having walked the last two miles. Now I know it can be done; I just hope I can still walk through the parks after!

I just wanted to come out of lurkerland and say thanks everyone for the support this thread has provided!

With my insane work schedule right now, I did an 8 mile run this morning to maintain my fitness. I ran 12.5 two weeks ago so I'm not concerned about not finishing. In news that many in this thread will understand, I received the shirt I'm planning to wear for my day at Universal. It reads "My Patronus is a Wookiee."

I also decided to switch my pre 10K evening meal to Skipper Canteen from Ohana. Between not wanting to hassle with getting back to my resort from the Poly, a slightly earlier meal time, and the silly fun of the Jungle Cruise, I decided to make the change. I know from experience how quickly bedtime approaches before races, so this change made one headache much smoother.

Yay!! So excited for you. :jumping1:
It's so fun to get to that point and know you can do it. Just remember to not start out too fast, and enjoy running through Disney!!!

If you won't be acclimated, what HOPE do us up North have, haha! Can't wait to start looking at weather forecasts for down there, although it will change probably a 100 times and even morning of, it's still fun!

Awesome! Sounds like you are ready to defeat the Darkside! I love seeing everyone walk around the parks after wearing their medals/shirts, even if some (including myself) are walking a tad funny!

Great job getting the 8 in with your busy schedule, you'll be fine for sure! Oh that's a great shirt, how fun!

View attachment 230198 Got one set of ears done. 5k, Flower & Garden and HS/ medal picture for the half.
Those are so beautiful, even Vader is beautiful in ear form!

Ok, I need opinions here: Running Darkside from the backside (yes Corral G!) but I know I can finish in 2:40 or less. Do you think I can make it back to Pop for a quick shower and then lunch at 11:50 at Be Our Guest (Magic Kingdom) all using Disney Transport?

70+ degrees 35% humidity and wind gusting at 45 mph. Still ran a 13 min mile.

so assuming front of g start time will be roughly 6:30 then add 2:40 gives 9:10 finish. Now add going through runner stuff getting water, snack box, and medal, find bus back to poly (I am going to say an hour) it is now about 10. Now assuming straight bus to poly (20-30 minutes) you are close to 10:30. 10 minutes to room 20 minutes shower and change and be ready for day now you are at 11 am. So 10 minutes to boat 5 minutes security 20 minute boat ride, 15 minute walk to BOG. Roughly 11:50

You might make it in time. I'm sure if you are a couple minutes late (no more then 10) it would be ok. Are you going with anyone else that can maybe leave the hotel when you arrive for change?

I believe that's reasonable, but personally I would budget in a taxi for the final leg if needed. I'm in G planning a 3:30 time, and have brunch at CA Grill set for 12:50.

I figure starting around 6:30, finishing by 10. I factor 30 min to literally walk through, grab my medal and food, and straight to bus (no bag claim). Pop will be a reasonable bus ride with lots of buses running it. I figure if I am back to my room by 11:45 even I can probably make it, but to keep from panicking I am planning to uber or taxi from pop to the contemporary.

Biggest thing would be the luck of the buses to get to MK as that is a 30 min bus ride, and the security to get into the park.
