Official Star Wars Half Marathon Weekend - The Dark Side 2017

That is the smoothest registration ever. Had two browsers open to register two people. Hit the button right at noon (9am here), had about a one minute wait, then both opened at the same time (despite having to re-log-in on one Active account). We are good to go for the Challenge!

Still nothing on hold. Surprisingly, even the 10k and 5k are still open. I wonder if they are allocating more spots to AP/DVC now.

As much as I would like to register now, since I am neither AP nor DVC, my conscience will force me to resist until next week. They really shouldn't allow the links to be available to the public.

In for the Challenge!

I am in for the challenge. I tried to register for the 5k also, but as soon as I hit continue after filling in all the info, I got the error page. I had not made it to the payment page yet. I tried to register again, but it told me I was already registered. I have not received an email for the 5k, and do not believe I have actually paid for it. I sent runDisney an email, so hopefully it will get cleared up.
I tried for the 5k too then got errored out too before the payment page, then was about to try again, but then had second thoughts about doing the 5k and just saving some money. So, now I'll be debating 5k or not over and over and over.

This has happened to me before - it is an Active.com flaw. Short story is you are not registered. My guess is since you did two registrations, their system only gave you one 15 minute period to complete them and it expired mid-registration? For me, the race had sold out while I was registering (ANOTHER flaw from back before they changed the process) but the registration was still showing in my Active.com cart. Since it was already in my cart, Active wouldn't let me register and fill out the form again.

I'd call runDisney for this one. Don't want to run the risk of being sold out by the time they email you back

I'm all registered for the challenge! Kessel Run, here I come! My BRF logged on to try to register me and was already through when I clocked out for lunch. I was able to enter the queue and fill out everything fine on my phone though. (As I was doing it just in case and out of curiosity.)

Super easy registration process. Which is nice since next week I might have to register my BRF while she travels to Disney. Last check nothing was sold out so I do wonder if people are being priced out. I was thinking about how I replaced my Glass Slipper Challenege with two challenges so Disney is definitely getting all my money! Lol!

Now everyone was signed into you active.com accounts first right. Then signed onto runDisney, registration page, and just waited for links to turn blue?

Interesting that nothing is on hold or sold out yet, not even the 10K. It's either price or maybe the fact that race weekend is the week after Easter that is holding people back. Perhaps it's too close to people's kids' Spring Breaks and they can't commit to it. I'll be curious to see when the early registration sells out and how general goes next week. Hoping my sister can get into the 10K. My Dad is a DVC member but we have a different address so it doesn't sound like a good idea to risk signing up today and getting kicked out if they check.

I'm wondering if the less-than-stellar reports from last year's race have anything to do with nothing being on hold today (which - I would think most of those issues will be addressed for 2017).

This race sold sort of slowly for them last year, so I'll be interested to see what happens this year.

The start for the half is listed as Floridian Way and the finish is EPCOT. That is different than this year's race, right? Is that the same course as one of the other race weekends?

I am hoping to get in for the half next week, so hopefully it will go smoothly.

Interesting. That seems like kind of an odd place to start.

Good catch!! I hadn't noticed that change. I don't think there is any current race that starts on Floridian Way. I imagine they could somewhat follow the last half of the WDW Marathon, but they would need to remove miles from somewhere else (likely ESPN WWOS).

Interesting, I hadn't even noticed the change, but yes this year the half & 10k finished at Wide world of Sports and bus issue was kind of a mess. Look like new courses probably.

Is it typical for a race to sell out when AP/DVC opens? Or do they only allot a certain # of bibs to AP/DVC folks and then open the rest in the free-for-all next week? I'm asking because I'm one of those poor souls that has to wait next week to register and now y'all have me all nervous :)

It is my understanding they the AP/DVC holders have a certain number of bibs, and yes, the free-for-all is next week. I too am in the same boat having to wait. But was able to register for what I wished for in the PHM this past Feb

AP/DVC is only like 5-10% of total spots available I've read, and sometimes those spots do sell out. Plenty of spots open for general registration, don't worry, it isn't going crazy fast today.

Only a small percentage are allocated to AP/DVC, so there will be plenty up for grabs next week.

that is very interesting, i didn't catch that either. I just pulled up google maps and did some measuring. Its very consaevable that starting on floridian way they could go through MK, down world drive to DHS, through DHS and along canal and through Epcot to make the 13.1. That could be really cool. I loved running thru AK both times that I have but AK is the furthest from anything str wars themed, would love if I am right on going through the other three instead. They could do a lot more in the SW them of things.

For the half marathon, if they start at about mile 8 of the WDW Marathon route (on Floridian Way by MK/TTC parking lot) and cut out ESPN WWOS completely, they could go to Animal Kingdom, Osceola Parkway, World Drive, Buena Vista Drive, Hollywood Studios, Boardwalk Path, Epcot, and finish in Epcot parking lot. That would be about 13 miles.

For the 10k, I have no idea what they would do for the route... maybe Floridian Way straight to World Drive, then to Epcot for one complete loop around Epcot with the finish in the Epcot parking lot. Any other guesses?

In any case, this may change my thoughts on where to stay.
