It appears the official re-launch of Space Mountain is going to be a quiet one.

Disney says it doesn’t plan to hold any grand reopening ceremony for the popular indoor coaster, which officially reopens Sunday after a seven-month-long rehab project. (It’s in the midst of a soft opening right now, which means it’s available to guests but likely to experience some hiccups.) There may be an internal ribbon-cutting, but that’s about it.

It also looks unlikely that the refurbished attraction will figure prominently into Disney World marketing.

Part of the explanation is that the Space Mountain project is a simple rehab, rather than a new attraction entirely. But it’s also partly because Disney does not want to be accused of overselling the changes — and invite further comparisons to the more-sweeping makeover that Disneyland’s Space Mountain received a few years ago.

After all of the mixed reviews I'm not surprised one bit...the ride itelf hasn't actually changed at all, save for some audio and being darker

I am still pleased with what has happened. I've been on this ride, literally, about 1000 times. I feel that it is smoother, the seats are slightly, once again, slightly wider, and more comfortable...WOOT! to the new cushion, haha. The whole engagement is far more aesthetically pleasing and the setup and ride system seems to be much more efficient.

That's good to hear because I would always make my husband sit in the back (DD in the middle) and I would go to the front seat because it's less jarring and easier on the back.

Do you feel that the back seat is still more jarring or has the new track and higher seat back improved it?
