I tried to read all of the posts, but my eyesight started failing!! Haha!!

If we're doing a split stay between SoG and a Disney resort, do the same rules apply? Meaning, will they transfer our luggage for us or will we have to do it on our own?

We stayed at the Poly in May (for the kids' first trip!!), but this time around we want to stay at SoG. However, I have a 40% PIN that I am heckbent on using (since they're apparently rare, and I may not get another one), so we're going to stay at a deluxe at the beginning or end of our trip.

Just wanted to say congrats on the code:goodvibes :goodvibes
I don't know for sure about the transferring luggage, but awesome code, darn it:worship: :worship:

Won't swear to anything, but I think you would have to handle your own luggage. If it were between Disney resorts it would be different.

How is the food at SOG? For part of our stay, we will be doing their breakfast dining plan (it seemed like a decent way to save a little money).

I'm going out on a limb here and just saying it is average. Nothing spectacular.

We ate the breakfast buffet on our last day. I remember thinking that we should have done it earlier in the trip, as well. It was quite pleasant especially for the price. But, hey, I am a sucker for sausage and waffles anyway. We plan on eating there this coming trip for sure.

We've eaten the breakfast buffet most days on our two previous trips and plan to again. It's basic good breakfast food. I think too many people want to compare it to a $20 Disney breakfast buffet. It's not, it's a good $8 breakfast. We will be eating at Kona one morning and possibly somewhere else one morning, but most we'll be down in the buffet which is always pretty well occupied.

We do the breakfast buffet most mornings we are there. Other than the waffles that I have heard are really good, it reminds me of Shoney's breakfast bar. That may or may not help you out. Personally, those mega expensive breakfasts in the parks and at some of the hotels don't really impress me. We aren't huge breakfast eaters, we like the basics (and God knows I love bacon) and as long as the biscuits are good, I'm a happy camper.

For the food in general, Evergreens is great. I can eat lunch and dinner there most days and be happy. On our longer trips we will sometimes come back for a late lunch or early dinner before hitting another park.

I'm not the biggest fan of the GG dinner buffet because I like my veggies to change out during the week and that doesn't really happen. Meats change but veggies don't so much.

I did it! I just booked us at SOG for April 18-25th. I can't wait! My husband gets back from a 6 month deployment in December so this will be a well-deserved vacation for us and our soon-to-be 5 year old son!

Since we are staying at SOG what's the best plan for meals? Can we still buy the Disney meal plan? If so, how does that work?

No, we can't get the Disney Dining Plan staying at SOG. We ate at the resort and scheduled a couple sit down including Chef Mickey's. This coming trip we are doing mostly counter service since dining adds up fast. However, doing Chef Mickey's is a must now...your son would love it.

We will be staying at SoG for the first time in March 2009. We are very excited as it is supossed to be one of the nicest hotels on WDW property.
Last time we went to WDW/Dis Cruise (May-June 2007) was for our 10 year anniversary and we stayed at the Poly. This time we are bringing my parents and will do 7 days at WDW! 8+ months is too long to wait!

KatRob - I think you were on the cruise with us!

Yes, Amy, we were on the Wonder with you last year. :goodvibes Hope your boys (big and little) had a great time. I know we saw you all over the place and it was nice to actually know someone's name on that big old ship.

You will love SOG. It is the best place to stay at WDW. We will be at SOG in Dec, another cruise coming back on Christmas Eve and the a couple more days at SOG. I've been planning this since before we left on last years cruise.

I'm sure that you will love the beauty and peacefulness of Shades....and the price isn't bad either.

Where in southern MO are you located? I'm in SW MO. Would love to find someone in my neck of the woods that  with Disney.

Minnie Lor, we are located about 2 hours SE of Springfield. Where abouts are you located?

We're in Joplin. Not too far from Springfield and not much farther to Branson.

Do you fly when you go to Disney? We fly but we have a really bad local airport so we have to drive to KC. Used to drive to Tulsa but they don't have a direct to Orlando anymore.

We are near West Plains, MO. We drive when we go on vacation. My husband is not a flier! That's okay with us, though. We get to see a lot of the country and my husband doesn't mind doing the driving. Boys are kept occupied with a DVD player in the backseat (didn' t hear a peep out of them most of the way to FL!), Nintendo DS, or travel BINGO. TV and video games are limited at home, but on the road is another story!

I just wanted to thank everyone for the information in this thread; it convinced us that SOG was the way to go for our family: the location, the peacefulness, the size of the rooms, etc.

We have reserved two rooms on 2 January through 9 January; our only request was that the rooms be connecting.

I'm sure that you will have a fabulous trip. Welcome to the boards, btw. Two sets of twins. How cute!

I want to thank everyone, too. Especially, the original poster for starting this thread. When we went last year, we had such little info. to go one since we didn't know anyone personally who had stayed at SOG. It has become our home away from home:lovestruc

I just got off the phone with someone from the Executive offices at WDW and she said that SOG guests should not be paying to park at any of the parks. If you have paid to park and you still have the parking tickets then mail them in and they will issue a refund. She also said that if a CM does not allow you to park for free with your SOG placard or room key then write down the name of the CM and send it in as well. She apologized profusely and said that it was unacceptable that the guests of SOG were being charged to park at the parks and that they are going to be re-training the CM's to let them know that they are not to charge us. :woohoo:
