Oops...don't know my NASCAR, not a fan.:rotfl2:

I found another post on the Resorts board about this topic, apparently there is a discount, and pretty hefty one at that, its almost half off if anyone is interested.

I think you mean Richard Petty Experience. Don't have an answer for that but you can call 1•800•BE•PETTY for information. There are discounted greens fees, I don't remember what they are though.

$5 per day and yes parking is free at the theme parks. We usually rent a car and it depends on circumstance whether we drive or ride the bus. I think the buses are OK most of the time -- especially to the TTC.

Yes, please share :yay: My DH would enjoy doing this.

Thank you

We will be leaving in just 25 days for the Shades of Green ...

I have a rental car for the last three days ...

Does Shades of Green charge to park there if you are a guest ???

Will they give us a parking pass for the parks like other disney resorts do???

Now that I see so many complaints about the bus service in the AM I am worried ... should I just get the car for the week and forget the bus for EMH's. We are big park openers ... I like to get up early even on vacation.

If I remember from the last time, the parking fee was $5 a day and thats for guests too.

We are driving down from Va but plan on just leaving the car and doing all the buses and monorail. We are leaving in 37 days!!!!!!!!!!!!:scared1:

I am also interested in this for an anniversary present for DH. The normal rate for the Rookie Exp. is approx $399 depending on the season. I called SOG, their rates are $95 for the ride along, and $365 for the Rookie experience. I called Richard Petty Driving, and their military rates are essentially the same except tax is added on, so $382. The lady at RPD said their best discount is the AAA discount of 20%.
I wish the discount was bigger. I'm going to check here on post at Carlson Wangonlit to see what the discount is there.

Does anybody know what kind of ATM machines they have at Shades of Green? Just wandering what type of fees I will have to pay to get cash.

In planning a November trip, my DH may not be coming with us:sad1: . However, he is the one employed by the DOD, and the last time we went, they popped his badge into a reader (they all have those imbedded microchips).
If he isn't coming with us, can we still reserve two rooms for my friend and I (and kids), or does he need to be there?

We were looking at it for our next trip at the end of 2008, SOG would cost me $125 per night plus $5 for parking. I can book at a value for $82 per night or a moderate for $149 with free parking.

Then of course, there is always the Nick Hotel... oops, did I say a bad
word?

I agree with u in the long run it comes out costing us more so we stay at a value and we end up saving. But we always make a trip to SOG to walk around and go to the PX for gifts cheaper for friends back here.:thumbsup2

Hmm. I tried to find this answer on Shades of Green's site, and it's just not clear. It's clear that a spouse of active duty/retired military can reserve a room because the spouse has his or her own ID card issued by the government, and I think from your post, only your DH has a DOD badge/ID card. I think that you should call Shades of Green direct and ask them so that you will know for sure. Good luck!

If you do Not have an ID in your own right, then no. he must be there at check in.

New change at SoG. We no longer get free parking at the theme parks. It seems that as of January 1 free access to parking by SoG patrons was stopped. However, it was not enforced until two weeks ago. So when we stayed in March we were able to access the parks without paying. That is no longer an option. :sad1:

AAACCCK!

I just called SOG and they said that we can only park at the Magic Kingdom for free and that we do indeed need to pay for parking at the other parks. YUCK! Why the change?

and...the SOG reservation person also added and this is a quote, "...at least they are allowing our non-disney guests to still use EMH". Huh? STILL USE! Is that an issue too???!!!!

Why free parking only at Magic Kingdom? Is parking at the other parks so much more valuable, Disney can't afford to let SOG guests park for free. It's not as if there are thousands of us hogging up the parking spaces.

Here we go again on the EMH. Disney keeps going back and forth on that privilege. Glad it's still available, but I won't get my hopes up for next year.

Because you need to go through that gate to get to Shades.

Yep...that must be why the MK is okay to park at....

I know that I must be extra cranky today, but this makes me really sad/mad.
woe is me...where is my glass of wine!

Last time we stayed we used the buses, so clear this one up for me (cause I'm not sure!). MK parking is basically at the TTC, correct? So we can easily access Epcot or any of the other parks if we park there. Just can't drive up to the parks themselves are park for free.
Last time we stayed, we used the bus service to HS and AK, and bus service to the TTC for MK and Epcot. But I think there are buses that go everywhere from the TTC as well.
My DH wanted to bring the car next time he goes with us, instead of using bus transportation. He may change his mind if we have to pay for parking both at SOG and the parks (tho I prefer not to have to worry about driving and parking - the buses we had no problem with).

So, we have to pay $11 to park at the parks, and also pay $5 to park at the hotel! That turns a $110 hotel into a $126 hotel. Not exactly the deal I was hoping for.

I thought the same thing. Next year we'll be in a higher category and we normally only visit during slow times. So I could easily get a value for a lot less. As much as I love SOG, it will now be saved for special times and special trips. I'm so thankful for the service they provide for people like us, but I'm a saver and don't want to pay for a gorgeous room that I can't enjoy since we're always at the parks. Never know, if they loose any business they might offer again. I wonder why they did it in the first place.

What about DTD? Is parking there free? And what is the fee to park for the day at AK or Epcot or DHS?

What about the water parks? Do you have to pay to park there too?

Our retired E8 rate goes up to $117 after Oct. 1. Still not too bad but still kinda bummed about the parking deal.
