I have taken my parents, children, grandchildren, and friends. There is no shortchanging here. Also as a parent I would much prefer to stay in a beautiful resort with my children that is not costing them an arm and a leg...

I just can't keep feeling like we might be shorting them a true "disney experience"
Sweetie, in our family, SOG is a true disney experience. We have had much more fun staying there than the other on-property resorts. Take them to other places for a fancy meal (you will be able to afford it easier staying here) but bring them back to a quieter, more relaxed resort for after the park experience. One selling point is the size of the rooms compared to the other resorts, much larger and inside corridors.

My DD has always called SOG "home" whenever we planned a trip. She didn't mind staying other places, but even the kid knew SOG was better.

Yes, exactly how we feel. Home away from home at the end of a wonderful, but busy Disney day.

count us in too.. I feel as if there CAN be too much of a good thing. the immersion of the Mouse at the parks is enough for me.

by staying a SoG I can afford to go twice as often while still enjoying the amenities that are important to us, and not missing the ones that aren't like pool slides or huge over the top theming.

Honestly I don't see where all these people think that SOG is making them miss out on something. Okay so you might not have the WDW soaps or Mickey on your bedspread.... seriously.... lets see...

Great staff.................both SOG and WDW resorts
easy transporation........both SOG and WDW resorts
dining......................both SOG and WDW resorts
location............... great - right by the other deluxe hotels
price...................SOG beats the pants off WDW deluxe resorts
DME.................. WDW resorts got us there
DDP........................ try DDE and you'll save a bundle
room size...................SOG - largest rooms at WDW (except suites)

so lets see.... you have a great hotel, great staff, great price, dining, tickets, etc..... and your missing what????? oh yeah.... the Mickey soaps.....

For us we’ve only stayed at Port of Orleans Riverside and Coronado Springs. We enjoyed POR because of the relaxed peaceful setting, we honestly never really noticed the “extra” Disney touches, the only truly Disney thing we experienced during our stays would have to be the top ten lists, etc on the tv. Other than that there was nothing overtly Disney about our stays here and we liked that. When looking to book my trip this year I looked into SoG because I am a new DoD employee. When comparing the prices there was no way that I could justify to myself staying at one of the Disney properties. We had already decided no dining plan this year so we were comparing the resorts strictly.

We are both adults and have never used the themed pools, we would always use the quiet pools when going for a swim. We like the idea of having a larger room with a balcony or patio vs. your small room at one of the moderates with an outside entrance.

I also feel like we will be so close to the Magic Kingdom that we may feel even more of the “Disney magic.” Being at POR and Coronado Springs we always felt like we were so far away from the parks.

Anyways that’s all for me for now. I can’t wait two more months!

we stayed there last year and LOVED it too- that's why I wanted to go back. But I had wanted the extra ambiance since it was for my in-laws anniversary- I knew from reading that the resort hotels do a lot for them but after crunching the numbers I figured that we could only afford a week at POFQ. BUT with SOG we can stay for 10 days and STILL have money left over. Also I noticed that it is one set price for the rooms based on rank and you can choose when you want to go whereas you have to pay more for peak season.

Thank you all for your input- I think I always knew that is where we were going to stay- but then I tried to justify spending money on everything else but at the end of the day I couldn't justify it. Then I started thinking that whatever POFQ could do for their anniversary we could end up taking them to a signature restaurant for the same thing and spend a lot less.

Thank you again for keeping me level headed!!!! :thumbsup2

Just booked for the first week in May to stay at SOG. Can't wait, it looks like it will be a great experience.

I just wanted to say Thanks for all the great info on SOG. Our decision was quite easy. We will be there for the first time Sept. 20-27. Will anyone be there at the same time??

May you have a great trip! It sounds like you and I just went through a very similar decision-making process and came to the same conclusion.

Enjoy those large rooms and quiet setting . . . and having enough money left over to enjoy several extras. :goodvibes

Does anybody know if SOG concierge has the "happy anniversary" buttons that you can get at other Disney resorts and the parks?

has anyone ever had groceries delivered to SOG? I'm only going for 4 nights so I wouldnt need alot, I know there is a PX there but they dont carry cases of water do they? So I was thinking of using one of those delivery companies. Can they get through the front gate?

I know SOG does not carry any water in containers larger than like a 20oz bottle. Not sure about a grocery delivery. We tried to get a Pizza Hut delivery there summer 06 (we live in Italy and my family was craving American junk) anyway, we could not get them to deliver to SOG. Not sure if this is the same problem with all WDW hotels or just SOG because of the security gate. :confused3 We are getting a rental car this time so we can satisfy those cravings.

ETA: How are you getting to SOG? If you are using a car service, you might consider arranging a short stop by a grocery store. We were able to get a free 30 minute stop on our last trip. We did not buy much....a few snack and sandwich stuff and mostly water and soda. It lasted us 2 weeks.

Yes, we used Garden Grocer for a fairly large grocery delivery during our last stay. We ordered 4 24-packs of water bottles, breakfast items, baby food, and laundry detergent. It worked like a charm. They called us on our cell phone maybe 30 minutes before delivery, and then delivered directly to our door. Our order was accurate, and the service was wonderful. I thoroughly recommend them.

It is a good suggestion to go with a towncar service that includes a grocery stop. But in my opinion, the extra money for Garden Grocer is WELL worth the convenience and stress saved. We will definitely be going with them again for our upcoming trip. :thumbsup2

HTH :)

We had a grocery delivery Dec 21 and it worked great. We got in late on Dec 20, so had delivery between 8-10 am on Dec 21. They called, we were in the room, they delivered straight away.

One word - in the old section, they have the fridges that are about 3 feet tall. In the new section, the fridges are the small squares.

Does anyone know if there is a list of the items sold at the SOG resort store ...
We will need allot of fresh fruit and water for our May/June trip. Our family likes having snacks around too ~ cheese, crackers, chips, soup and other such items. What about bear and wine?
We have used Garden Grocer twice when we stayed at the CBR ... We have found their service to be very convent and reliable. We have also used the van service from the airport that will stop at the grocery ... we find that to be a big hassle and a waste of time (garden grocer is the way to go.)
