The ground floors have patios and all other rooms have balconies. There is an onsite safe in each room as well as a small refridge.:thumbsup2

Perfect, I figured there would be a safe since it used to be a disney resort but I just wanted to make sure. I hope we get a balcony with a nice view. Any idea how large the safes are? I would like to be able to store my laptop along with my purse while we are out.

I'm really liking the idea of having the indoor hallways, even at disney I'm always leery of rooms with outdoor entrances being a 28 year old woman travelling only with my 21 year old sister. You just can never be too careful these days.

We did pay extra for the poolside room - and ground floor is great if thats the case.... now if we can just get one by the Magnolia pool that would be the icing on the cake!!!! I know it is kind of crazy to pay that extra amount but my son and husband both spend alot of time on the golf course and my daughter by the pool and it makes it nice to be able to just walk out the room and have those available to you. Once we stayed in the newer section and it was a hike to get to the putting green and the pool and my kids were younger then and I had to go with them.... they are 18 and 15 now and so I don't worry as much... but I still like to be able to see them....

From what I remember, the room safes at SoG are not large enough to store a laptop. I would say they're a bit smaller than the standard lap top - they might be long enough, but I wouldn't guess they are wide enough. If I had to estimate, I would think they're about the size of a legal piece of paper?

On another note - does anybody know if there are any ground floor/patio rooms in the newer section? I'm thinking there might not be because of the parking garage. Last trip, we stayed in the newer section but on the third floor.

Thanks! :)

Yes, there are ground floor rooms with walk-out patios in the new section. :thumbsup2

per the web site if you take out the safe shelf you can fit a 11x14 laptop in the safe.

It's kind of a toss up. You have to go thru the lobby to get to the exit to the sidewalk to the Poly

I agree. The older section is much closer to the Poly "as the crow flies", but to my knowledge, you still have to exit through the lobby areas. The older section might be slightly closer to the lobby, but not enough to make a difference on room requests (in my opinion).

I think the safes at SOG are big enough for a small laptop, I was able to put a lot of stuff in the safe last time we went (two purses, wallets, camera, ipod, etc.) with a lot of room to spare. People say you can get a laptop in the safes at Disney resorts, and the SOG one seemed about the same size if not slightly larger to me (but I've never traveled with a laptop though).

Thanks for the great info in this thread! We have never been able to stay here before, but are really excited to in September. :goodvibes

What are the pros and cons of the new section versus the old section?
Thanks!:)

Thank you :) Did anyone come to any kind of consensus on whether I should bother requesting anything in particular? I would love to see fireworks or have a gorgeous view, but from what you guys have described, it seems like there aren't too many poor views (compared to my last stay at the Pop!)

Well my wife and I decided that for the first trip to WDW, that we would stay in a resort. Of course I couldn't afford the Mods or Cont, so we are staying at AS Sports. We decided to do that due to the dining plan, that and the first trip to disney. I am sure that the next vacation to WDW we will use SOG, but you have to do the first one right :cool2:

We've stayed at Sports before it's a lot of fun. The DDP is really a lot of food -- it's a good deal though if you want to visit a lot of TS restaurants and do some character meals. Make sure you take a larger belt along with you. :lmao: Have a great trip.

WOW- This thread has convinced me to stay at SOG! It's actually a lot cheaper for for us too.
I just have a question about the Stars and Stripes tickets-- Can you just get the tickets with just the Park Hopper Option? I thought I saw something once, but I couldn't remember and totally forgot to add it to my list of info!

Yes, you can get the regular magic your way tickets at a slightly discounted price (plus you don't pay tax!). On the page that has the Stars & Stripes info, there is a small place to click that says something like "click to view regular WDW tickets".

Here, I found it.

^Thanks so much! I found that link sometime last week, and then couldn't remember how I got there.
