I just saw tikimans photos of the volcano coming down at the pool and noticed they closed off the beach in front of the pool. Anyone know if we can expect or hope that that beach area in front of the volcano pool will be open for 12/31/2014-1/7/2014? We are booked at the poly then and hoping they would clear that area for NYE fireworks and all...anybody have any predictions/ guesses/ input? Thank you!

I would believe that area will still be closed. However the beach areas in front of Hawaii and over by Fiji are still open.

This special everyone is talking about does not always include the time you are going. When I checked it versus my Disney ressie, Disney was CHEAPER. They did not include the Sat. and Sunday after Thanksgiving in their discount like Disney did so it was pretty much the same $$ for us. Maybe if you can work your days to their discount you can save big $$ but we already had planned our time to go. I just hate for people to keep saying they are getting this great deal when there are "catches".

You really have to take the time to price out and compare all offers. One reason my TA offer was less than Disney was because they were able to give me a discounted first day (January 4th) that Disney did not, as their promo officially starts Jan 5th.

Depending on travel dates, number of adults in room, and weekdays vs weekends vs holidays, everyone's offer may be a little different. That's why you have to compare your own dates/rates.

Just wanted to add that I compared multiple offers from TA and Disney. Depending on package: RO vs add DDP vs SPD vs tickets or not, each plan came out fairly similar in price. The TA and I decided that Disney is going to get their price no matter what they call it. A few dollars here and there didn't make a big difference. The biggest factor was how your family travels and how you eat. Other than that, 6 of one half dozen of the other.

There was a good price difference between a hotel with an offer vs one without, and of course Deluxe vs Mod, etc, and TA vs Disney, but within the TA vs Disney pricing schemes, the offers were similar.

There are limited dates, but I wouldn't say there are "catches" just because the dates are limited as that is also the case sometimes booking a discount on your own. Discounts offered through some TAs (especially ones that are deeply discounted) usually are offered during short periods of time when rooms need to be filled. Since a lot of these deals are offered through group sales, they work differently than booking direct through CRO. I have found there to be more flexibility as most of the time your dates can be extended to include the discount for dates outside the promo dates (which I actually took advantage of for next August). That is something that can't be done going direct through Disney CRO. If you book with a room discount and some nights of your trip are outside the promo dates, you pay rack rate for those nights as Disney will not extend the discount for you to include those extra nights. With all of that said, not all discounts are going to work for everyone so sometimes dates need to be reconfigured to take advantage of a discount, whether it's through Disney or somewhere else.

Laundry is in the same building as the Kids Club. Facing the monorail. Was open in August when we were there. There was no mention of it closing when we were there.

Woohoo! Just booked our pre cruise stay in June/July back at our beloved poly! Doing GV CL for 4 nights! Can't wait to see how the resort has progressed since we walked through it last month. We feel so at home there and even with the changes I am sure that feeling won't change!

I wish we could!!! I'm getting nervous though... I assumed that by July the main pool would be completed but now all everyone is saying is that they hope it is done by August... I really hope that it is done by our trip in July - I guess it is still 6 months away and I will continue to monitor tikiman's updates... but I REALLY hope it is done by our trip!

I just rechecked my January res, and while not an astounding $ save like August deals, I did save a little, and price was cheaper then Disney AP discount. No catches.
I ended up booking a split stay at same resort, first 5 days with AP discount, and second 5 days with magical deal. As you say, the special doesn't cover all dates, and doesn't start till mid trip for us. So it is nice to get a little more of a discount on half our stay.

What are the chances that all of the Poly construction is done by Sept? We just booked for Sept 8-18 of 2015 with the hopes that the pool and everything else would be completed by then.

From what is shown in the photos, I genuinely like some of the new decor/features. The rock formation (waterfall?) in the center seems fairly lame compared to the original though. Knew it would be- I guess I just really liked the old one.

We had dinner at O'hana tonight and got to see the new lobby. While I am one who misses the old waterfall, I will admit that the new lobby came out very nice....could use a little more greenery/flowers, IMHO, but still very nice. Really like the openness and the new furniture looks sleek. I, for one, cannot wait for our upcoming August stay and just hope most of the construction will be done by then.

I have seen video and pictures of the new lobby and I'm probably in the minority but I do like it. I feel like it is nice and open - spacious and welcoming! I love the new lighting! Can't wait to see what the rest looks like when it is done!
