****Official May 2012 Thread**** ALMOST TIME TO LEAVE!!

Since our 180-day window just opened, I'm trying to decide what special events we should do this yr. So I was wondering what things people here plan to do - to give me ideas.

For us we've already decided on:

Segway Around World Showcase (do it every year - never gets old)
Illuminations Cruise (wow! love being part of the action! - my favorite!~)

and we're trying HDD for the first time.

I depend on DIS for new ideas - I wouldn't ever have tried any of those, if I hadn't heard about them from people here.

We are planning on doing the Pirates and Pals Party next year.Seems to be a great way to watch Wishes, and if we can afford it we will be doing The African Trek At Animal Kingdom, but its about $180:eek: so we'll have to wait and see.

Yes! I'm thinking a small Jack Skellington cake (8") from the Contemporary. DD's bday is towards the end of the trip so I'm trying to decide if we want to get it to her then or celebrate her bday a couple days early so we can eat on it throughout the trip.

Aww Congratulations!!!

We are celebrating dd's 18th birthday and her High School graduation! Her actual bday is the 27th so I'm sure we'll cater that day completely around her.
 

So, I have a question for all you people that go to Disney often... how much spending money should I bring? I have the meal plan, so I won't be needing much (if any) food money... but I did want to get about 7 people a gift from the parks. Nothing horribly fancy, just like a t-shirt or something. And obviously, something for myself. XD Thoughts?

Great question!!

Here is what I typically do:

1. Go to AllEars.Net and look at the menus for the restaurants I expect to visit. Based on what I think I would choose, I put aside a 15% tip (or more) in an envelope. Remember on the dining plan, you still must tip based on the bill of the meal.
2. If you were going to get 7 gifts, I would think $15-20 a gift. This is if you are thinking t-shirts. Remember there is a great $10 and under store in DTD. So say $15 a person - $105.
3. If we are on the regular dining plan, we still budget $10 a person for extra food. Since you only get QS/TS and a snack.
4. Remember some money for travel in the airport, one expense many forget.
5. Lastly, if you wish some tip their mousekeeping.

Hope this helps. Normally I would bring about $500, and if I need more than that – I just pay credit card or put it on my Disney card.
 
This past May, we did the Behind the Seeds Tour and it was great. We had done it before but my mother had not. I really want to book the Wild Africa Trek but the price is pretty hefty for a family of three.

I've been researching airboat rides in Kissimmee and found one that looks really fun and interesting so I think we are going to book as soon as the 2012 window opens up.

I'd love to do the Behind the Seeds tour! One of these days I will!

We're celebrating my Sister's birthday on the 5th of May. Just the same as we did the year before.

We're trying to catch up as I have spent about 8 or so birthdays in Disney over the years.
 
We'll be celebrating our son's 15th birthday while we are at Walt Disney World next May. We've reached a lot of milestones at Disney:

1) Our son took his first five consecutive steps on Main Street USA;
2) Our son celebrated his 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12 and 14 birthdays there;
3) My husband and I have celebrated our 24th and 25th wedding anniversaries at the Magic Kingdom;
4) Our daughter and son rode their first roller coaster at Disney;
5) We spent our Thanksgiving holiday at Disney;
6) Our daughter took her first "away from the family" vacation with our church youth group there.

And, I'm sure there are more milestones that I have forgotten but those are the "highlights". To me, there's no better place to celebrate anything than at Walt Disney World!

Speaking of birthdays......Sigh........DH gets to spend another Birthday in WDW. We will be checking out a 3 days before DS 7th bday so I guess we will be getting him a button too.

All I ever get for my birthday is snowed in and sometimes a new Disney present.

I never really got into the PIN collecting. But, I do collect Pluto figurines/stuffed animals.
 
Jessica527 - I just saw that this is a honeymoon trip for you. Congratulations!! May 5 should be beautiful, at least it is in the western part of PA!

I know a bit how you feel. We will never be in WDW on my birthday because it is in July and I will never go during peak times. I am miserable in extreme heat + crowds. Also, we drive so we'll never go during the worst winter months. That means we'll never celebrate DH or youngest DD's birthdays down there, since they have February birthdays.

While I am a snow lover, I agree that it will be nice to get away from it all! No snow on May 5th for my wedding either :bride:

I actually enjoy snow too, but by April I am ready for it to be over. Too much of a good thing and all that. :upsidedow

Well, the week I go it's Mother's Day, so my mom and sister will be getting something for that... And also, it's my brother in law's birthday AND my sister/brother in-law's anniversary. XD So we picked an interesting week to go! :p

I'm not a pin collector. My sister is however (not as such a pin collector, but a Stitch collector) she has every pin of Stitch she has ever found. I collected a pin from every park/place we went when they first came out. But I am not really a trader.
