****Official May 2012 Thread**** ALMOST TIME TO LEAVE!!

Hi everyone! Taking my 9 year old son and wife to Disney for the first time May 6-9. Only three days, but time and budget are limited! :confused3

I'm currently in Afghanistan (military), and should be home middle of April. I haven't booked yet (hopefully today), but I should be getting the military 35% discount on Moderate resorts (going for POR), and 4-day Park Hopper passes at $138 each for military...so my biggest question is rather or not to get the Quick Service Dining Plan.

I've been obsessively planning this for awhile...hopefully I made the right choices. If anyone has any thoughts/ideas/tips for something different, I'd love to hear them.

Thanks! :thumbsup2

:sad2: OK...first wrench in the gears...there is nothing available at POR except for Royal rooms. So...the closest they could get was a Garden View room at POFQ. I wanted POR for the pool and play area, the fishing, and it seems highly recommended on this (great) forum.

So, does anyone have any experience staying at the POFQ and walking to POR for the amenities? Maybe this will be a good thing...? At least we know we are getting two queen beds, but I think the 'vibe' and entertainment at POR would be more appealing to our 9 year old.

Welcome to the DIS! :goodvibes We have stayed at both POFQ and POR. And I agree, POR does have more to offer. But if POFQ is the closest you can get I think you will be fine. We didn't walk from one resort to the other, but I would guess it is about a 10 minute walk. And you can also take a bus or boat from POFQ to POR. Be sure to use the pool, eat at the food court, and see Piano Bob at POR!!

Enjoy! :wizard:

I'm not real familiar with POR or POFQ...but I do know that the dining plan (either one) tends to save you about 30% over doing all the same meals directly out of pocket. Especially if you hit some of the pricier ones...like Wolfgang Puck Express at Downtown Disney, etc. Plus if you're going to be hanging out at the hotel, etc, that refillable mug will be handy!

May 9th is my birthday :)

Bless you for serving our country, being in Afghanistan, etc. Bless you bless you :wizard::love:

OMG DisneyDiva......I am from Liverpool, NY to.......I live in AZ now, but I lived in Liverpool the majority of my life!

How funny!!! I have lived here my whole life. I am a die hard Liverpool Warrior!!!:goodvibes I live in Bayberry. Where did you grow up?

Hey May peeps....

i've been seeing a lot of references and pictures of the castle show before Wishes...Memories Magic and You or something like that. Looks really cool....
but can't tell if they are still doing it? I looked on dates for March and there was no reference to it on the park calendar, nor in May, but someone just saw it last week I thought....

So do they not list it on the calendar as a separate thing. Is it just considered part of Wishes (which is on almost every night?). Just wondering. Trying to figure out when I'm going to keep the kids up late enough to see that if it is still happening!

Happy Friday!

I don't really know the answer to this, but I can't imagine that it won't be going on in May. I just assumed that it would still be there, due to popularity. I would say whatever night you're planning on keeping your kids up late to watch Wishes you'll see the Magic, the Memories, and You beforehand....

As an aside....my trip is in exactly 2 months!!!!:woohoo::cool1::cheer2:

I feel like I'm on the last leg of the waiting period. If I can just make it a few more weeks, I'll be packing and getting everything organized for WDW!:thumbsup2

(to jebobek) I recomend shades of green, have you looked at it? Deluxe hotel as opposed to moderate like por. great transportation - follows schedule, and stores/restaurants on site much cheaper then disney.

It's the 2nd of March so we are leaving in exactly 2 months :)

Very happy and really looking forward to spending 10 nights at CSR and hopefully having enough time to stop and smell the roses :)
Also interested to see how the QSDP will work out for us.

Payment is due next week so my credit card will be taking a beating as we have only paid the £100 deposit so far...

We arrive on May 2, too. Hooray for fewer than 60 days to go!

And we're staying at CSR, too -- but only for three nights. Maybe I'll see you there!

Monterrey Park.....I am a fellow Liverpool Warrior!!! What year did you graduate?

I just pm'd you:goodvibes

I will be at Disney in 54 days. I feel like I still have lots to do, but I am pretty sure I took care of everything. Oh well, I am almost on vacation!!:yay:

I just tried paying off my balance online and it was declined...I wonder if it is because it's such a large amount or maybe because I tried on a Sunday? I'm going to try again tomorrow during business hours and otherwise I will call the callcenter, balance is due on Wednesday, don't want them to cancel my reservation due to no payment :confused3

As long as you pay the trip off before the due date, Disney will have record of it in their computers. They won't cancel your trip because your bank took an extra day to process, or whatever. If the amount bounces for any reason, THEN you may have a problem.

The large amount got me before. I was checking in at the Poly on our last visit, we had room res only, so had to pay the bulk of the cost at check in. Well, despite my Disney Visa having next to nothing on it and plenty of room to cover, they declined the charge!! You would think they should expect to see a large charge on a Disney Visa at say a Disney resort!! :confused3 So we just switched to a different card and that one was fine. So lesson learned...next time I plan to put a large charge on the Disney Visa I'm going to call them first. :thumbsup2

PixiePoppins, your avatar confused me for a minute, I thought I had replied again without remembering :)

Anyway, I'm all paid now, it was a rather large sum of around $2000 but I called my credit card company first and they said everything looked good on their end, so it was the Disney website that was the problem.
Had to call the Disney hotline(for $0.40 a minute and the call lasted 10 minutes) and got it all taken care of.

We're officially all paid now, 58 days to go!

we have a month to go before we pay it off, although I have told DH to just pay half now and half in a month, he balked at the idea. He likes to do just one big payment (weirdo)

I think he's finally getting into the excitement of the trip because he's starting to ask questions...which you'd have though he would have been asking when I first booked the trip, but whatever.

Going to scour the "what to pack" threads and make my list of things to buy over the next few months...it makes me feel like I'm not spending so much money when I add a 3 dollar item every week :goodvibes

Just wanted to pop on to see my tickers!! Almost down to just 2 months!:woohoo:

Finally made our second ADR:yay: - Crystal Palace for an early morning breakfast! yay!

My husband is getting a little more excited as each day passes. He has asked me to tell him one special or fun thing about WDW or our trip everyday. It's always hard to narrow it down to one thing though!!

How much spending money should I bring? We won't have to buy food, we got the dining plan (we're not "snackers" lol). So basically, how much should I set aside for t-shirts and all that junk? It's just me and the fiance. No kids.

I am beyond ecstatic right now!! After 2 months of researching and planning on a Universal trip, as we are sitting down tonight so I can tell my BF what I have come up with, not only does he mention going to Disney...he wants to stay onsite!! I took him almost kicking and screaming to Disney pre-kids and it was just not his cup of tea. Apparently having a 4yo princess loving daughter can change a man. :rotfl:

I can't book the room only discount online so I plan on calling first thing in the a.m. and hope they still have rooms available at POP. If not, Travelocity has rooms available with the discount.

I don't know how I am going to sleep tonight. :woohoo:

Oh, my dates are 5/1-5/9 (just booked flights) and staying at POP.

I just read on another thread that the value resorts are going to have a fridge included in the rooms now. That would be great if this is true! :)

After a painless 15 minute phone call to the reservation line, we are in! Room booked at POP with spring discount. :cool1:
