Official May 2011 thread!

Anybody staying at CBR at the end of may? I'll be there from May 27-June 1st:cool1:

Hi All!

I have lurked on these boards after a friend reffered me. I am trying to figure stuff out and its sooo overwhelming. I called disney and have a hold for a reservation and I think we are going to book in on Monday.

Its our first time there!!! It will be me, dh, dd (4) and a baby who will be 2 months ( due in march).

We will do the free dining, so going May 27-June2 and staying at POP, doing a 5 day park hopper as one day we plan to rent a car and head to the beach.

Questions about dining. I am getting sooo many mixed things. We planned to do the quick meals ( so 2 quick meals, 1 snack and a refillable mug). We want to do Cinderella's castle ( cant make reservations till the end of the month, so hope we get in) and also maybe Chef's mickey. Would it be worth upgrading to the regular meal plan so that we can use our 1 table meal for those? Or if we only plan to do those two, just book those seperately??? I am so lost. I want it to be the best cost effective wise.

Any other info for first time visitors? I am SOOO excited to book it and go! We will also do the biddi boddi botique or however you spell it :)

Congrats!! I love first timers!
I have had the regular dining plan with 1 table and 1 quick per day. It is great to try all the different restaurants but for being your first trip, it can be pretty hectic and tiring getting to different ADRs each day. When we go in May we will be trying the Quick dining and I am very excited about it. I know that the Cinderella's dinner or breakfast 2 table meals. I would keep the quick dining and add the other two out of pocket. :goodvibes

I have to agree with this as well. Also remember when you book CRT you have to have the money up front. Chef Mickey you can just make an adr.. Any other questions ask away everyone here is great.. and Welcome to the Dis

We'll be there too!!! 27-1... We are talking about a pool meet a night or 2

Oh hey that would be great, just let me know when it is decided. I have my plans that we will do 2 days at a park and then rest a day, so hopefully I can work in a meet. :)

My boyfriend doesn't want me to make any more ADRs since he doesn't really care. He will be ok with eating a burger or a hot dog as long as it isn't some snack item. :rotfl: I do want to have a nice breakfast one day, but they are so pricey.

My mom told me the character dining was a waste of money. We went to the Crystal Palace when we went last time (January 2000) and the characters just visited the table for a short amount of time and left. If it was like that when I was 9, I'm afraid of what it will be like now that I'm 20 (21 during the trip)! :scared1:

These are my ADRs so far:

April 30th - Portobello @ 6:00pm (20 month anniversary dinner)
May 1st - Mama Melrose's @ 5:35pm
May 2nd - Tony's @ 12:15pm (21st birthday lunch); California Grill @ 9:10pm (21st birthday dinner/Wishes)
May 3rd - Nothing (Not sure if I want to add something or not)
May 4th - Biergarten @ 12:00pm; Teppan Edo @ 6:30pm
May 5th - Nothing (This is a flex day so I don't want to commit to anything)
May 6th - Nothing (Restaurantasaurus doesn't require an ADR)

I might fill in something for the 3rd, but that's our "Maybe MK" day because we are going to MK after MGM closes since MK is open til 2am, plus we are going to MK all day on the 2nd so we aren't sure if we want to spend all day, half day at MK or go to a different park.

Should I make reservations for Raglan Road on the 2nd or can I just walk on in for the bar since I don't plan on eating?

Just as an FYI, we are an adult group (my mom, sister and I) and we have eaten at Crystal Palace and I believe we got the same amount of attention as the kids. The characters probably didn't stay with us as long as with the kids but that's because we weren't really talking to them like the kids lol. We just grabbed pics and let them go on their merry way. Also, we met Remi in Chefs de France and the "waiter" with him was hilarious and really involved us, too. So for the most part, I think adults still get the same attention as the kids. On the other hand, we didn't get much attention at all at 50's Prime Time last time we went. We sat down at the same time as a larger table with two kids and our waitress didn't really involve us in anything. Which is sad b/c it's the waiter interaction there that really made me love the place in the first time.

As far as character dining it general, I would usually say it's not worth it for adults b/c I personally hate buffets and most character dining is a buffet. Although I thought Crystal Palace was pretty good, I would rather take my $ and have a sit-down dinner with or without characters.

Also, if you're on the fence about making more ADRs, just make them! You can always cancel them but some places fill up fast and you may not be able to add them later! :)

If anyone is able to book a Wishes Dessert party for our month, please let me know! I keep reading conflicting reports as to availability, even out until the end of this year. Some people are saying they've been cancelled, but some people are saying they've booked in March, so idk.

So I ended up canceling the Disney World trip today. My boyfriend and I were discussing about going to Disneyland instead because it's more affordable for us right now. I'm really sad about it because I really wanted to go to Disney World, but I think it's better for us in the end.

We will definitely try and go again within the next couple of years or so when we can really afford it. My boyfriend really wants to get his debt out of the way, get a new car (he wants a truck for his trailer) and be able to buy a house within the next 2 years or so.

I'm gonna shoot for May 2013 (or 2014), when the Fantasy Land expansion will hopefully be over! :goodvibes We want to do it right and not half-a** it.

Hope you guys have lots of fun on your trips!

Hello! Just booked a two week trip for Mid-May using my 30% off pin code! It will be myself, my mother and my two brothers. We are staying at CSR. So excited!

Im glad to see that some people will be at Disney when I'll be there. A dismeet sounds great!! Can't wait to ADR and stuff. Come on Nov 28th:surfweb:

Just booked our airfare!!! :cool1: We are flying Spirit and we're kinda afraid :scared1: I've heard a lot of bad things (cramped seats, etc) but it was so much cheaper than Delta and the times were so much better. With our checked bag fees, we got or tickets for $170 each vs. almost $250 on Delta. Also, we get to leave Detroit early in the morning and leave Orlando at 8pm (so we can maximize the time in WDW). So hopefully Spirit won't be too bad!

So sad! :sad1: But you are right, now you will have plenty of time to save $$ and do Disney the way you really want to. :thumbsup2

I"m doing the opposite.. We are doing Delta because Spirit is so much higher.. :lmao: Last few times we flew Spirit air they changed my flights times a lot.. Last time we had to fly home 5 hours earlier than origionally booked and they wouldn't let us change flights.. I so hope you guys have better luck.. Hopefully it was just me.. :goodvibes
