Official inaugural Tower of Terror 10 miler thread. September 29, 2012

If any ladies are still looking for a last minute costume, I saw the coolest running skirts, the evil queen and Queen of Hearts skirts (Sparkle Tech)~ along with other way cool fabrics and colors perfect for the ToT race on the Sparkleskirts website. They are pretty expensive, but everyone talks about how great they are comfort wise for longer races AND they are just too cool!

You can even pick your order up at the Expo, they are one of the vendors.

I was looking at these at the expo. I wear a old bike short - doesn't ride up ever, but the downside is that it's cotton and has no dri-fit qualities at all. I then put a nylon running short over them to hide that spandex type of look of the bike short.

Would like to try one these skirts. Who has tried them? Do they really NOT ride up? Is the leg band irritating at all?

Can't find the evil queen version. Is that the name of the style exactly?

Ok I LOVE the Queen of Hearts skirt but I just cannot justify paying $85!

Yeah, I hear you!

I just ordered a black diamond Sparkle Tech skirt. I figured I'd have it for this race and for the 1/2 in January and any other races since it's pretty basic.
I was convinced by reading quite a few posts about them on various WISH events (mostly Disney) threads. I don't know about the leg band, but everyone says they really don't ride up. I'm thinking part of that is a longer inseam that many shorts don't have. I can't wait to try it out when I get it.

Hi everyone! Just checking in! I had my first really rough day in a while.

Last April I got a really bad case of shin splints so I stopped running for 6 weeks. I got new shoes, changed my running style and I've been better since. Lately, I've been feeling really well and my pace has been getting a little faster each time. In fact, a week and a half ago, I was running our 10 miles with my friend (we meet in the middle so we did 1.75 miles by ourselves, then 6.5 together, then 1.75 by ourselves). Our pace together was 12:45 but I was feeling so good that when I ran the last 1.75 by myself, I went down to 10:54 a minute!

Anyways, I'm feeling discouraged because today when I was running, I was sore. I started softball up again last night, so I'm not sure if its because I didn't get my rest day before running or not, but my shins are hurting again. I'm so afraid of the shin splints coming back! Blah! I hope not!:sad2:

I like the black diamond and the Everest. Does anyone know if the leg band is stretchy or is it tight? I want to prevent chafing not add to it. Do these skirts really live up to their promises...i.e. don't ride up, don't chafe, covers enough thigh, etc.

I suffer from black toenails a lot - more when I am doing hills work due to the downward pressure on my toes from my shoes going back downhill. I handle mine a bit differently than going through the nail - I couldn't do it controlled enough for me and was worried I seriously stab myself. I actually use a sterilized needle and go from the front of the toe under the nail. When it is black or red with blood and fluid the nail bed is puffy and swollen and you can get in there and make an exit hole. By pressing on the nail, the excess fluid/blood can come out and your body can start to repair the nail bed. It doesn't hurt, or is nearly painless, and immediately your toe feels better.

I heartily support this method, as it worked well for both of my toes. It's even better if you could get someone else to poke them for you. :)

I've been diagnosed with 3 different issues with my foot and not supposed to run for 6-8 weeks....if I decide to listen to the doctor, does anyone know if I can not run the event, but still go to the party?

thanks!

I'm so sorry! What a disappointment. Can you walk it?

Thank you for the links! I didn't preorder, so I hope they have them at the Expo.

I didn't get a workout in today, but the soreness from Sunday is gone. I'm hoping tomorrow to get a run in. I spent tonight reading the program guide. I'm excited, but wish time would slow down! I haven't had time to work on a costume yet!!

Anybody else notice that the Wine and Dine is not listed for 2013? The very back page of the race program lists upcoming races through 2013 but no Wine and Dine. Hmmm......

Probably because they're waiting til it gets closer to this year's race to announce the date for next year's. I can't imagine that runDisney would do away with such a popular event!

I thought it was strange too. In the list it seems like they've listed all of
2013's races, because they want you to "hold the date", yet Wine and Dine is missing. They would have/ should have known the date by now. Interesting indeed.

They didn't list the Expedition Everest Challenge either :confused3 and it's already on the schedule in the Run Disney site

Ahhhh good point about EE. I didn't even miss that one. Of course, last year they already had Wine and Dine on the schedule as Sept 29 and we all know that got changed so I suppose anything is subject to change until registration opens.

Ok - then they're just poor at designing brochures. :rotfl2:

I wanted to run Wine and Dine next year - not seeing it was making me nervous.

Did anyone notice it looks like we have to walk all the way around TOT and B&TB stage after the fnish line just to get out of the 'race'? That seems almost cruel after we've just completed 10miles!

Oh, and the corral 'staging' area seems weird too. Like the corrals are way far back from the Start and then there's bathrooms along the way to the start? Maybe my perception is just off? Those maps just seem strange.

They are probably going to stage and release close to the start time so it is more of a continuous line. Different from normal, but hey.

Yes, that is what the final race instructions said. We will be taken to the start line one corral at a time, 5 minutes apart.

Does anyone know if there will be any kind of GU's, Power Shots, etc. available at the Expo? I looked through the list of vendors, but didn't see any that looked like they may have them. We're flying down and want to try and pack as little as possible, so I was hoping that we'd be able to pick some up at the Expo.

Now that the program is out and we see the vendors and map of the expo, for those who have done the larger events, how does this expo seem to compare?

Just from looking at the list of vendors compared to the Princess Expo, it looks smaller.
