Official Glass Slipper Challenge Thread

I think RunnerGirl has the actual AP pass. Maybe she can verify? AP or voucher in hand.

Disney was hoping RunDisney would use the voucher.

I ad an actual AP pass, not the voucher.

Oh, I'll give the label of "crazy"... but I think we're all crazy, lol! ;) I'm in, too: TOT, Halloween Halfathon, WDW Half, GSC. Looks like a lot of us will have overlapping training schedules!

So you ARE doing the GSC -- woo hoo!!!!!!!!! :cool1::banana::cool1::banana:

Me too - because I'm a girl who LOVES to eat peanut butter and crackers for lunch just so I can pay for the privilege of walking through theme parks with thousands of other sweaty Princesses. At 5:30 in the morning. For three days in a row [I'm planning to do the 5K as well]. And call it a vacation.

I don't know whether to :sad2: or :yay: at this questionable bit of logic.

Can anyone tell me what I'm seeing is correct?

I go to MYEXPERIENCE, EVENTS, special offers, early registration RUNDISNEY.

I do get the link to "early register" for WDW marathon. Should I be seeing one ( or anything) for PHM on this page too?

It says AP holders stay tuned for early registration dates on it.. That's all

Thanks

This is exactly where you need to be. The text/wording will change sometime before the 6th and than at 12pm on the 6th the link will appear.

Can any rD vet explain how this whole sign up thing works. This will be my first rD event and between hearing the nightmare that was preregistration for Dumbo and already seeing controversy that some signed up for GSC yesterday, I have this awful feeling that if I don't sign up at noon or close to, I won't get in (no AP or Disney visa either so 6/11 for me!)

So I have a few questions...

1. I keep hearing active and RU Disney...which one do you go to in order to register?

2. I work in a school so I can't sign up right at noon and my husband will be at a school event for our son so he can't register for me. I always have recess duty at noon and maybe I can switch but not sure that my co-workers will understand the importance that it's to sign up for a Disney run..lol.
I will be doing this with a friend though, can she register for both of us? If she can, what info would she need for me?

3. Am I crazy for making the challenge my first major running event? Lol. I am a fairly new runner (started last August with some breaks due to family emergencies). I am not in anyway a sports bra and boy shorts runner who can do an 8min/mile. I run/walk and was actually able to do a 13:32 min/mile last night after a 90 degree day. I was that person who said "I can't run" but reading about the Princess half showed me that all types of runners are welcome and actually inspired me to start. After hearing about the run/walk interval method, I have been able to do a 5.5 mile run which was actually a huge accomplishment for me. I will now be doing my first 10k on July 3rd at Gillette stadium.
But after seeing all the debates on here including people signing up who shouldn't because they will most likely get swept, now I'm second guessing if I should be doing this even though I know I have the time to follow the Galloway training course...
So for those who have done back to back challenges, is it crazy for a new runner who is dedicated to the goal but hasn't proven themselves as a race runner to sign up for this or is it more feasible to focus on just the half? I just really want to be a part of the inaugural that I know I will regret not shooting for it. Yet at the same time, I think it will be worse to be looked at as not belonging there since for so long I looked at myself as never being able to join this fantastic world of running...

Cadyrose Easiest thing is probably to bookmark the RunDisney page for the race. Come time, a link to sign up will appear. Alternatively, you could go directly to active.com, but I can't find a good link for that yet.

Anyone can register you. They just need your name/address, etc along with birthdate and, of course, payment info. Also, you would need to submit a race finish time estimate if you want to try to be placed in anything other than the last corral.

You are definitely up for this. You have plenty of time to train properly to do this at whatever pace/run/walk strategy works for you. And the 10k / 1/2 back to back is way more manageable than the 1/2 / full!

Also, while I think registration will fill quickly, I would not expect it to go in one day. (But who knows---these events have gotten crazy!)

To add to previous poster....if someone is registering for you, also make sure they know your shirt size, your favorite princess, and whether or not you'll want any of the commemorative items that are available at registration time (pin, necklace...)...these are usually available at the expo too, but I always order at registration to avoid a sell out at the expo. And with the shirts, know what size as well as if you want the womens cut or unisex as they've started offering both now. And if you have any sort of proof of time for corral placement, make sure they have all that info too...your time, and name and length of the race. If you don't have any proof, give them an expected time to list that is 3:15 or longer. Hmmmm....I can't think of anything else. My BF may end up having to register me because I think I'll be tied up in training that day, so I've been thinking about this a lot myself lately!

My first 10K is also the Gillette Stadium one! Where do you live. I'm in Brockton. I'm running at about the same pace you are and my biggest worry is also getting swept. Now my DD and DDIL have me doing the GSC :confused3 I'm already anxious, can't imagine what I'll be like at race time! I was 100lbs heavier two yrs ago. First year dedicated to wt loss (no exercise) and second year dedicated to exercise/running. I did the WDW 5K in Jan and then the Castaway Cay 5K a week later. Been training for the 10K and then will switch to Galloway half marathon training...but I'm slow :sad2: and I need to do strength training too. Starting to focus on my legs by doing squats, and core by doing wall sits/planks.

My DDIL is doing the Gillette with me. Then on July 13th we have a half marathon in Jamestown, RI. Mostly doing it to see if I can even walk it but will try Galloway intervals of run 2 / walk 1. The trick will be to stay motivated and training all the way to February! If your local maybe we could meet sometime!

Runners come in all shapes, sizes and speeds. The very few that are considered elite, it's a competition amongst others. For all the rest of us, it's a competition amongst our own mind, our own bodies. Right now, get it out of your head that you do not belong, that you are not good enough to do this. You are. Just for wanting to get out and try this says something about you. Most of my half's are finished right around 2:58 or so. Plenty of people finish ahead of me, and plenty finish in back of me. Enjoy the experience, afterall it is for you, not for them! So register, train, and DIG DEEP!!! Michele

Do you know what princesses we can choose from?

Do you know what princesses we can choose from?

Usually it's any of the official Disney princesses including Merida!...all it does is determine the color of your bib, and maybe they print the Princess' name on the bib too? Now I can't remember that part of sure, it I know each one has a different color bib...at least that's how it's been the last few years. I chose Cinderella the first time I did it and it was a blue bib, and Belle last year for a yellow bib. I'm thinking of going with Snow White this year, but can't decide :).

See this is what I have grown to love about running. I did use to think it was a sport only supportive of those that fit the look. It's the runDisney events that have shown me otherwise.

Thanks for all the support! No one in my family runs so even though the medals are pretty, its more the accomplishment. I can't wait to say I finished a half marathon....even if I'm the last across the finish line.

And thanks for all the info. I have no clue what princess to pick for my bib so I have to start nailing that down. I think right now my 10k will be a Princess Leia theme for my star wars loving son and one of the princesses for my daughter during the half.

I did know about the 10k proof of time. I know I have to email after my July race. I am looking for a 10k in either September or October too. I know the new rules are that it needs to be in by December and that you can't submit at the expo. But can you email them more than once for coral changes or should I wait till November to see what is my best 10K time?

I know in 2012 princess I submitted one 10k time to get updated, got an email from rundisney saying "we recvd your time and it has been changed". I then a couple months later did better at a 10k and submitted that time, I got an email back saying "thank you but we already have your corral placement". So now, I just wait until right before the deadline then submit my best time. As for as a bib, I just pick the princess that I know will match my outfit :). I chose sleeping beauty because I knew it would be a pink bib which matched my pink and black outfit..... Priorities people!!!
