*****Official February 2015 Thread! Come check in and chat!*****

I had emailed Disney to see if I could find out some more info on if, when etc the sleeping beauty castle might be under refurbishment & they did email me back. This is what they said:

:sad2:

"Our Sleeping Beauty Castle will go under refurbishment beginning January 19th & will return March 3rd".

I had asked if the walk through would be open or if the castle would be covered, but they did not answer that part or give specifics.

:(

Just booked flights for our dapper day trip, 2/28-3/3, YAYYYYY!! While cruising expedia for hotel deals, I snagged the red lion for 60/night. Hard to beat that great deal, even though I really would like to take advantage of the dapper day rates at DLH or GCH. Decisions, decisions....

Now that the holiday is getting closer I'm looking at schedules. Is this the only way to see what's closed? Checking each day as it's released? That's as far as I can see. I had no idea Hungry Bear was closed. I read another site saying all of Critter Country is closed for February?

Yes, all of Critter Country is closed in February. This is what I am most sad about. I don't think it's set to reopen until maybe early April.

Wow the list of closures in February is pretty high, yet there is no mention of some sort of discount, or even something being arranged by Disney to make up for the high amount of closures, looks like we just have to grin and bear it.

Yeah, it's pretty annoying there's no ticket discount available from Disney. I think it's the least they can do. I think we should all complain at City Hall or something. I think they need to know this is not okay. This is not like the regular off-season closures.

The list of closures isn't actually that high. Off season is usually when refurbs happen. We missed the matterhorn and splash 3 years in a row and 2 of those big thunder was also down. And there isn't any reason for Disney to offer any sort of discount, they usually have some off season hotel discounts but they aren't typically "amazing". People are going to go regardless.

I get people being upset that Critter Country is closed but it makes zero sense to have the Hungry Bear or Pooh Corner open when both Splash and Winnie are down. As for the castle, the website is still showing the walkthrough open.

Personally I'm just happy that the railroad will be back up once my trip rolls around. My first ride, every trip, is always once around the park on the train.

Oh, also, I've changed my hotel. (Can someone please update the first post??)

After much debate I've switched from the GCH to the DLH. We had an awful experience at the GCH a few years back and I thought, hey, I'll try it again... but I can't bear the thought so I've switched. Which considering I'm going it solo this time around is great because it leaves me more money to spend while I'm out shopping.

I also just found out that a good friend of mine is going with her DH and DD (first trip) around the same time as me, so we will meet up for lunch or something. Which is a most excellent surprise!

This is our favorite time to travel, and we expect closures, but for whatever reasons, when I saw that there were no canoes and no train, I kinda lost it a little.

hmmm i think the list of closures is very high actually, now we can accept a few but i`m afraid this is quite ridiculous.

Agree, even if they put something else on at the parks would be nice, but to just close so many rides and offer nothing to there guests to compensate a little is disappointing to say the least.

I've added you to the list and may I say how jealous I am that your DH grew up in Orange County! If not for the fact that I would never move from Canada, I would love to live within an hour drive of DL.

Also, I have to mention that while I hate the character, I love love love your user name and pic. Huge Whovian family over here, keep an eye out for us in the parks, DH and I will probably be wearing Who shirts. My new favourite artist is Karen Hallion, her DL/Who crossover shirts are fantastic!

I have recently stumbled upon Doctor Who. Decided to check out Karen's work bc of your post (I am also going to DL in February) and I am in love with her work. Thank you for posting that!!! Just ordered 3 shirts.

The list of closures is definitely worse than past years. There's really no denying that, in my opinion.

We leave in exactly 1 month! Woohoo! I suppose I will probably buy some tickets soon. It's looking like Orbitz will have the best deal, right?

My understanding is that was why they added all the Frozen stuff. It soft opened early, but really doesn't officially start until after the holidays.

I agree that the closure list is slightly higher than usual. If the castle is covered, that eould bd a blow, but I'm going to hope they at least use the themed tarps this time. The walk through being closed is not a huge deal IMO. But, I also don't know what thru could be doing to just the walk through. So I'm going to assume it's getting covered and be happy if it's not!

I sort of agree, but honestly I think this is going to push us into an AP for this year. We are going to be at the VGC from the 6-11 :)

Speaking of tickets, I have money in our DVA account or I could buy through Orbitz and upgrade at the gates... What's the deal with Orbitz and do you retain the discount when upgrading to an AP?

Also, if we decide to upgrade from a deluxe AP to a premium, can we do that at a later trip ?

Hmm...you may need to start a fresh thread for these questions. I'm not sure how many AP holders are in this thread. (We haven't had an AP since 2007....back when a premium was under $400...haha!)

Good idea! Btw, another Whovian here :)

I suppose I'm just in the minority then since I don't think it's all that bad (but then again none of those are my favourites) IMO if guests are looking for less closures they should travel during peak times.

You can upgrade from a deluxe to a premium, but the expiration date stays the same. DH and I might make an adults only trip in Nov 2015. If we do, we will get APs then to also cover our next family trip in June 2016.
