Official Dopey 2017 Thread

Only a few more weeks! I finished day 3 of 4 for my long run simulation. Shorter runs after this! I had originally planned to do it next weekend but I'll be in CA celebrating my bday and I don't think I'll want to do all these runs on a hotel treadmill after being out late. It's starting to feel real and very close! ahh!

Way to go!

Not dopey or really race related. Does anyone make a yearly mileage goal? And how did you come up with that goal? I'm trying to hit 600 for the year but I didn't decide on that until I realized I wasn't that far off. Just a weird thought.

I usually don't. I try to focus more on my goal race and doing what is required for that. The miles and meters will be what they'll be.

I set a goal of 2,016 miles in 2016. I wasn't actively trying to get it, but it was just a by-product of my training. As of today, I'm at 2,350 miles.

@Ariel484 brings up a good point. I usually do set an annual goal, 1800 this year. For me it is just about working towards something and stretching myself further than the year before. But I don't think it should be the focal point. More a byproduct of all the other goals for the year.

I am going to miss it by about 40 miles this year anyway. I thought I was a lot closer but messed up in my journal. Anyway, when I realized my mistake I thought about trying to add miles here and there to make up the difference. But ultimately decided that 1800 miles is not the point right now. Right now it is about preparing for Dopey. So I will miss 1800; there is always next year.

Wow @DopeyBadger! 2350 miles! Your commitment and work ethic just continue to inspire!

I'm with @FFigawi. I let the training plans for the various races drive the overall mileage for the year. If I were to ever have a year that I didn't plan to run any races (unlikely) I might set a goal to provide a little motivation to maintain fitness.

I usually don't make long term goals for running but ones I do set are typically time based or just finish the event related. Miles adding up are just a byproduct of getting to those goals so I wouldn't even know what to guess as a mileage goal at the start of a year. But I like the way you came up with yours. :)

Edit: guess in reading back I could have just copied @FFigawi answer.

I did set a yearly goal of 2000 miles (and will set one for 2017), only to keep motivated during the summer months when there was not a goal race that I was preparing.

No annual goal for me, but I am at 1485 right now. Not too bad considering the fact that I was in a boot with a broken foot to start the year.

Finished my 13 miler today. It was very cold and windy, and I needed another layer. By the time I was finished with my run, my whole body was very, very cold.

Time for a business trip to Utah - be gone until Thursday, and then my final 4 Dopey prep runs before the taper. Can't believe that we are so close.

Got the knee taped up and got cleared for elliptical use by the PT today. Put in 5 miles on the elliptical and everything feels pretty good outside of that weird muscle feeling you get going back to the elliptical after a long absence. So I should be able to complete my training schedule for the next week or two that way. Then re-evaluate things and maybe get the taper in back on the road. Not ideal, but at least I'm moving again. Fingers crossed.

Wow that's amazing! I was hoping to hit 1400 but I had an unplanned surgery mid year that took me out for a couple months so I had to drop the goal to prevent myself from stressing out lol

How did training go for everyone this weekend? Long run simulations are done. I had to do them all on the treadmill so that was awful. The only good part is knowing it won't be like that in 4 weeks and it will be much more entertaining. Hope everyone had a great weekend.

Thanks!

I would have done the same thing.

Congrats! Took a last easy week prior to the last stretch of training. Wasn't terribly enjoyable trying to run through 6 inches of snow yesterday. Thankfully, most of the run was plowed, but some parts not so much. Almost race day!!!

At least you were able to get your run in yesterday, despite the 6 inches. My run didn't happen, because 16+ miles of my 18 would have been on uncleared paths/sidewalks or the side of poorly plowed, high speed roads.

We got 6+ as well.

So true. That would have been rough to try and get 18 miles in yesterday's conditions. Are you going to be able to do it today instead?

I'm probably going to have to skip it, but I have 20 planned for next weekend that I should be able to get in. There's a little snow in the forecast, but nothing like yesterday. If I can get the 20 in I will be feeling pretty confident going into Dopey.
