Official Disneyland ½ Marathon & 5k

We are staying at the Holiday Inn to be able to walk i the morning since it is about a block away, but it it my understanding that each hotel that is on the ART (Anaheim Rapid transit) will have service that early in the AM! Hope it helps!
Hi all -

We will only be staying Saturday night, and I am considering the Clarion Hotel. DH and I fly in Saturday morning, will do Expo, then Twilight Tickets (or maybe one day park hoppers...), then the run the next morning and then a flight out at 7:30 PM.

So we won't be in the room very much. Clarion sounds fine, good price. Does it have shuttle service to DL? Should I pay $25 more and go for Red Lion or Marriott? Should I splurge and do one night at a Disney hotel?

Thoughts?

We will not have a rental car. We plan to do the shuttle from LAX or a taxi or something.

Don't know if anyone saw this or is interested, but saw on the website that they added a necklace to the list of commemorative items. I think it's like $20 or something.

I wasn't impressed with the Tink necklace. Plus the fact that I could have waited to buy it at the Expo and saved 20% with my AP.

But still, I will probably pre-order it becasue I'm a dork like that. :rotfl:

Thanks for posting on this. This is the first time a necklace is being offered for this race. I'm wondering if there will be a new Dooney bag too ???

I hope the necklace is better looking than the one for Tink. But I just know I will end up getting one anyway. I am such a sucker for anything Disney. :)

Thanks ladies! I'll thnk about that one.

Vicki did you see the pattern for the new Dooney line coming out next weekend? I've never gotten into their bags before, but I absolutely love it!! Hopefully they'll have some wristlets left to phone in an order at the end of May.

Kim---YES I did !! I felt the same way until I saw the new one. I really really like it, especially the large one. And guess what--we are heading down next week and will I am going to check the purses out Saturday morning.

Honestly, I know I would not use the purse anywhere else but at the parks. So I don't know if I can justify the cost. But since we go to the parks a lot ---I would get some good use out of it. :rotfl: I will keep you posted. :)

Good luck getting one next weekend! And have fun! Was down there last weekend and had a blast. A lot more crowded than I expected, but you're in DL so how bad can it be? :rotfl2: Saturday night was awesome~ watched the fireworks off to the side of the Castle and was watching all the Swing Dancers at the Plaza their last night.

I like the big bag too, plus you get the whole pattern as opposed to the smaller ones. But I figure when I go in the parks, I usually just have my phone, lotion and a credit card case, so hopefully the wristlet will work.

Kim,
Thanks ! You are so lucky to have gone to the last swing dance at the Plaza. What a great thing to experience on the last night. I have loved that area of the park for ever and have some great memories there too.

We're heading down early Wends. so I hope the crowds will be light until the weekend.

I just ordered my necklace... I love the idea of being able to wear the necklaces during the race and collecting them. I see that a lot of runDisney races are starting to offer them- hopefully they will keep it up. Makes for a much more practical keepsake for me than a pin. (The pins just end up sitting in an album or pinned on my medals... at least this is something I could wear regularly!)

As far as the Dooney goes, I know that they are going to be releasing the Disneyland retro collection soon-- VERY cute. Maybe it will coincide with the DL Half, if they haven't already released it yet. I just saw the pictures for both the new WDW retro and DL retro collections and can't wait to see them in person!

Yeah !! I'm going to order the necklace too. It's just another thing to collect. My pins are also in an album but I know if I don't get one I will have buyer's remorse. :rotfl2:

The retro collection is so cute--it's the first one I really like. I will be checking it out on Sat. I guess we will have to wait and see if they will offer a "new" bag for the race. :confused3

I agree about the retro pattern- it's really the first one that I've solidly thought to myself "WOW, I really need to get one of these!" Better start saving! ;)

So, I registered as a volunteer for the 5k today, just wondering if anyone on here has volunteered before & could share their experiences?!

I'm running the half marathon the day after & just wondered what to expect - thanks :)

Haven't volunteered, but I've ran it and can tell you about the race. It starts at 6:45 and music starts around 5:45/6. There are some volunteers at booths for bag checks. There's 1 water stop about 1/2 way through. The majority of the volunteers are at the end giving out the food and water. The runners will be done no later than 8:00 b/c of the time limit (although it's not really that enforced unless something happens) and the last runner to cross the start. You should be out of there no later than 9 I would guess, b/c the parks will be re-opening.

The course is up in the air this year, b/c of the new land opening in DCA so it's anyone's guess. In the past, we've started at the Mickey parking lot to the right of DTD and the DL hotel and finished inside of DCA near the LM ride. One of the years, the water stop was just inside the backstage area of DCA, but can't remember the rest of the years.

Hope that helps a little bit! :goodvibes

Okay am I the only one getting annoyed that Tower of Terror and the WDW Marathon now have their course maps but we still don't have ours? I mean even if its the same it shouldn't take that long to post and ours is before there's.

They usually don't release the course maps until the summer, so they're not really late. Construction is going to be done, but they probably want to make sure everything in DCA is done, finished, and able to run through before they finalize and post the course.

I'm kinda annoyed, too. BUT.....seems to me, it means that it will be the same as last year with minor differences in the parks. They just seem to not have the room/flexibility in Anaheim as Orlando....understandably.

IF it is the same as last year...all good by me! Who knows how many overpasses there are in the course? Never considered it, but i hear it's a player.

To me the course outside the parks does not change too much. There was one year we were not able to run through Angels Stadium---we had to run around it. But the last couple we have run inside the stadium. The only hill I recall is the "over pass" going over "the 5" freeway.

There really was only one large overpass in either of the Disneyland course. And its a fairly large uphill I will say. I want to say it was about mile 5 last time? Anyone back me up? That and the entrance and exit of Angels Stadium were the only hills to really note last year.

My thing is if it is the same course why can't they just upload it all ready? No real reason to wait to upload a map that will five second to edit the year and maybe a minute or two tops to upload on their site?

From RunDisney's perspective, there's no reason to rush the course map on a sold out race. Clearly the early release of the marathon course map is a way to sell registration spots...we all committed to DL sight unseen!

DP and I had a discussion about this on the way to work this morning. We came to agree that the best way to bolster the number of entries in the Mickey Marathon would be to improve the course--namely shorten the out & back's. By releasing it this early, they are teasing it and shamelessly self promoting themselves. Let us not forget, runDisney is part of Disney and they always have their bottom line in mind.
