Does anyone know the official Disney line on Fastpasses?

There are several postings on this board saying that they can be used anytime past the earliest time on the FP (eg. FP says to return between 1PM and 2PM so the pass can be used anytime after 1PM -- it does not expire at 2PM).

I have always been under the impression that the pass expires after the time specified. I'd like to know the official line on this. It seems that a lot of people on these boards use the passes after the latest time listed.

There have been several times that I did not return to a ride because I thought they were for the specific hour indicated. If they don't expire, I think the pass should say that.

Yup, we've used them past the time slot on the pass. I'm guessing Disney doesn't actively advertise that because they have much more control over a specific time slot if they anticipate most guests returning during that time (which, I think is fair) rather than the less predictible 'show up whenever you want'.

IMO, it's still best to show up during your time frame if for no other reason than you can get another FastPass. Even if you're holding two, you don't really want to keep hanging on to the one that's already valid. Why not use it and get another?

I think that one of the fast pass rules are that if a ride goes down during your fast pass window then you are able to use it at any point during the day after that.

On our last trip I got the feeling that they did not strictly enforce the return window. As an example, between fast passes and child swaps, we did BTMRR a number of times on day. Later that night we had one last child swap and when we got online the fast pass line was all the way up the ramps an about half way down the line that approaches the ramps. The rest of the day the line fast pass line only went about half way up the ramps.

The official WDW policy is that FASTPASSES are only to be used during the return window.HOWEVER,they CAN be used anytime that day after the return window has expired-at the attraction Cast Member's DISCRETION.This is also part of the WDW FASTPASS policy and I have never been turned away when doing this.I received this information from a Guest Relations Cast Member. :)

I don't understand.
The CM's don't "do anything" with the FP's (like scan them) after collecting them.

The "system" doesn't "know" if you just used them or not.

You are supposed to use them during your window unless a ride goes down or something like that. That having been said they usually will allow you to use it afterwards. I do know of one instance at Soarin where someone tried to use a 1:30 to 2:30 fastpass at 3pm. The CM refused em but wrote 6-6:30 pm on them and told them to come back. But I don't know of any other.

But here's why you should try to use them during your window. What if everyone just rushed to get a fastpass for splash and then everyone that had a fastpass waited until 4 o'clock to use em. Well that would defeat the purpose of fastpass and they'd have a huge bottleneck of fastpass users.
