I am mulling over a custom cake for our trip in June. We are staying at GF and having dinner the first night at Narcoosee's. I am thinking maybe a 2 tier mini cake with the white chocolate Peter Pan on top? Is Peter going to be too big to look OK on a cake that small?
Also, does anyone have any thoughts on whether I should have Peter painted or just leave him plain?
This is for DS's high school graduation so I want the cake to look nice. We did a HUGE custom cake from Chef Brian when DS first got accepted to the Arts Magnet, but it was WAAAYYY too much cake for the 3 of us, even after we shared with the guests at the next table at The Wave. :)

I don't know exactly what flavors are available for mini cakes, but I know dh ordered me a chocolate cake with white buttercream icing and the Bailey's Irish cream mousse filling. It was delivered to bog, so made by the contemporary.

Ooh...that's a combo I'm considering. Was it good? Also, was that recent?

. I Donald Duck Darth maul on a dessert at Cali grill before not issues, strange.

Of course this was under Chef Brian.

Did you order that dessert or did they bring it out to you as a surprise? DH and I are having our 14th anniversary dinner at Cali Grill and I would like to do something, but he doesn't really like cake!

I wonder if someone might know the answer my question, I have read over 100 pages but I still can't quite figure it out!

I intend to order a cake for my parents and MIL for our trip later this year as they all turn 60 and that is part of why we are all coming together. I was going to one of the 'standard' 8 inch cake but I wanted to know, will they put different fillings other than the normal chocolate or vanilla? Obviously I expect to pay more for that, but does that make it turn into the $75 upwards cake speciality?

I'm going to go crazy with the cake ordering this trip, planning a mini cake to be delivered at Ohana as we are renewing our wedding vows that day, also thinking of the chocolate slipper one day and maybe something else.... I will speak to Pat about all of these ideas nearer the time (I have dealt with her before over an intimate dining experience at the gf and found her ok, fingers crossed for me!)

I basically just want a white or yellow cake with either the strawberry mousse or strawberry and Bavarian cream filling with whipped cream as the frosting. Would I be able to do that in a mini-cake? Or even an 8-inch? Or would I just have to call and cross my fingers? lol Thanks in advance for any answers/advice.

You won't be able to get fresh strawberries in a minicake, but they should be able to do strawberry-flavored mousse. You could in an 8-inch, though.

I'm still confused over mini cake flavors. If I used either the Magic Kingdom (for BOG) or the Grand Floridian (for V&A), could I pay for more exotic flavors than the chocolate/chocolate, white/white flavors I've seen mentioned?

You'll have better luck with the Contemporary—the GF is pretty firm on their chocolate/chocolate, vanilla/vanilla, and cheesecake options for mini cakes. Also, no bakery on property can do fresh fruit fillings or carrot cake for a mini cake.

Peter Pan will not fit atop a 2-tier mini cake—the base of the figure is bigger than even the bottom tier of a mini cake. They can put him on the plate next to the cake, maybe. :thumbsup2

I think there's a very good chance it will, but most of that upcharge is for decoration, so perhaps the price won't be that bad if you stick with the standard look of the cake. It's definitely best to call and ask.

Thank you! I had a feeling the white chocolate figure would be too big to go on a mini cake. My solution to this will be to order a bigger cake. :rotfl2:

We got a great cake from the pastry chef at Jiko last week from our son's first birthday. We paid about $75 for an 8 inch cake...marble cake with white buttercream frosting and blue fondant, done in a La Luna theme. It was really delicious, but they spelled my son's name wrong!

Thank you so so much for answering! I'm still months away so I will have a while to wait before I can call, I'm just a forward planner ;)

Hi !!

DH & I will be arriving at WL CL on 2/2. Never stayed at WL or CL anywhere, before.
Was so caught up in planning, I forgot that I wanted to order a Lady & the Tramp cake for our anniversary. Dh has no idea that custom cakes even exist,so this will be a real surprise.

We'll be having dinner at Artist Point on 2/5,so it makes sense to have it delivered there for dessert,as we only have to carry it to the elevator.
I found one pic waaaay back in this thread of a Lady & Tramp cake. It was kinda plain,so I'm hoping at least the tablecloth can be "fancied up" a bit.

I will,of course,go back & review the info,but from memory,was it's the Poly I have to e-mail/call??
It isn't too late, is it,to order a cake for 2/5?
I'm assuming it'll have to be at least a 6 inch, which is okay, because we won't be leaving until the 10th,plenty of time to finish it off.

Even though we have a TIW card,I'm thinking I might be better off not using it....?????
Does the cake bill get added to the dinner bill?? That would be fine, but then, how do I handle the tip for the cake???? I'm getting confused......:scared:

Im in the same situation. We are staying at the contemporary and have ADRs at the CA Grill. Im trying to decide if I should have the cake delivered to our room upon arrival or at dinner the first night. I have a TIW card, but i don t want to get charged gratuity on a $100 cake!

Any suggestions?

I'm still new to these forums and the whole cake ordering is confusing, we're celebrating DS 2nd birthday in March at Disney, we are staying at AoA, but we have reservations at Hollywood &Vine and tusker house, do they deliver cakes to either restaurant?

Post # 2 on the first page of this thread has all the info for ordering cake at both Animal Kingdom and Disney's Hollywood Studios.

I called the contemporary to see if they would do a six inch butter cream with a 2d print out and I was told NO . They said other places may do it it but they don't. Lurkyloo do u think Boardwalk Bakery will do it

Another stupid question...

I'm considering staying at the Poly. If I have the cake delivered to my room, will they do it while I'm not there?

I want to do MNSSHP on my birthday, and I'm not sure I want to potentially miss part of the party sitting around waiting for a cake to be delivered...

Call the number listed under Wilderness Lodge in Post #2 of this thread and explain that you want a fancy, fondant-covered cake for your dinner. They will then either take down your request and send it to the Contemporary or "allow" you to call the Contemporary's cake line (which doesn't like to be contacted directly anymore for cakes at other locations, even though they still make them) to place your order.

No.

Yeah, so the cake gets added to the dinner bill, and if you use TIW you will automatically have to pay an 18% gratuity on the cake. So effectively your discount is 2%. Theoretically you could ask to speak to the manager and request that the amount of the tip be lowered, but I'm always too embarrassed to do that...

Unfortunately none of the Disney bakeries on property can do a screen print that small - it has to be an 8-inch cake. You could ask for an image to be screenprinted on white chocolate and then cut out and stood up on a 6-inch cake, like the Brave one posted above.

I'm considering staying at the Poly. If I have the cake delivered to my room, will they do it while I'm not there?

Yes, as long as you're checked in. :thumbsup2

I'm thinking of things like red velvet and peanut butter cup, of course, but also almond/amaretto mousse and yellow/raspberry or blackberry mousse. Are those even in the realm of possibility for mini cakes?

We just had a 2 tier mini wedding cake this weekend--- red velvet with cream cheese frosting. Ordered from YC private dining & had it delivered to Yachtsman's Steakhouse. Did not specify decorations, they did a few candy "balloon" decorations with chocolate swirls for the strings. Also had some candies that looked like small pearls. The happy birthday message was written on the plate. It was very yummy!!

Cost was about $57, I was told it would be an increased cost for the red velvet/ cream cheese frosting. I had to give a credit card number when ordering. We have TIW & I expected it to be on our bill & pay the gratuity on the cake cost too. It was not on the dinner bill but was just billed directly to my credit card-- no extra gratuity charged.

I did have to tell the waiter we had a cake ordered from private dining, he then checked with the chef & the cake was brought out by someone from the kitchen, not our waiter.

The red velvet/ cream cheese was delicious & the private dining staff @ YC were very pleasant to work with.

That's what I said to maybe they just didn't understand. Heather from the Contemporary is suppose to call me tomorrow
