I think you handled it appropriately. It was wise of you to step aside and not cause a scene at your table. Your cake definitely did not look like a $100 cake in my opinion, at least not compared to some of the others I've seen here. You are already paying "Disney" price (read: inflated) for a custom cake, and I would have been upset myself if that's what I got. The fireworks don't even look like fireworks...they look more like the flowers that are in your inspiration photo. LOL Honestly, the cake you got looks like a cake that one would maybe recreate on their own at their house to mimic the "real deal". Hehe.

I would have had a hard time not paying for the cake even if they said they would remove it from the bill, but sometimes they really do insist that you not pay for it.

Hopefully that cake wasn't done by the person that took over Brian's spot.

Oh I completely agree with you that the workmanship on the cake is subpar compared to what I've seen the Contemporary bakery do! Even piping buttercream would have made for better fireworks than those white chocolate things. I definitely don't blame you for being disappointed at all. I just brought up the Tink stuff in case you ever did order a cake in the future and wanted a white chocolate figure then!

NEVERENOUGHWDW, I started reading your post on my iphone and switched to my iPad so I could see pictures. I clicked on the first photo you posted and thought that cake is amazing, I am not sure what she is unhappy about. BUT then I saw saw your cake and realized the first photo was the inspiration. I totally agree with you that it was completely underwhelming and even from the photos looked poorly done to me.

I am in complete agreement that the manager told you not to pay for the cake - the mark of good customer service is not charging someone for a product they are unhappy with. Obviously the craftsmanship of the cake is subpar and you should not pay for poor workmanship.

Thanks yall! I obviously love Disney and just had a lot of excitement invested is this cake. It was definitely a big bummer but I'm sure it will be something my family will laugh about in the future.

I am still going to contact the Contemporary because this quality of work was so unlike them. In my head there is some grand story behind this cake; like it was dropped and they had to scramble to make a new one or something. If we order a cake again I will probably do it through the Grand Floridian or an outside company. Oh well, you live and you learn.

This was exactly my reaction too, I saw the post on my phone so I skimmed the post then looked at the pics - first pic I thought, what's the problem, that cake is amazing!! Second and third pic, I thought ah actually in that other lighting it looks pretty bad, crazy how different it looks with the flowers and balloons missing... Then I went back and read the post and realized why there was such a difference in quality.

I would be very unhappy with that too and I probably wouldn't have paid for it either. You're right to go ahead and bring it up with Contemp anyway - maybe they have one shoddy baker or something happened with your order that a manager isn't aware of and should be.

You could have Mickey playing golf or football. Unfortunately, I haven't seen anyone be successful in talking them into reproducing any of the special mini cakes or cupcakes from that wedding expo. They appear to only be available for weddings in multiple quantities. Hopefully, someone will correct me, if I missed one.

I would mind so much if they said sorry those are only for weddings or for bulk orders. Called and left another voicemail for Pat yesterday afternoon. No call back yet.....maybe today. At this rate I'll be left with a podium cake.....maybe this is their intent....so disappointed.

Yeah, so far no one's been able to get Disney to re-create that R2D2 cake. :( Does your husband have a favorite Disney character, theme park, or fireworks show? We've seen some neat fireworks cakes here, and an awesome Monorail cake. If you said he was, say, a fan of Animal Kingdom, I'll bet they could take the theme and run with it...

If I can every get to actually talk to Pat maybe we can work something out. His favorite ride is Splash Mountain, however for him Disney is about golf and Star Wars weekend. So will probably go with a golf theme, Goofy golf.

Called the GF and I have been voicemailing with Pat. I wanted R2D2 mini cake for DH's Birthday during our ressie at Narcossees on his actual Birthday. I wanted one just like the those displayed at the Wedding expo. I am a little peeved that she only ever calls back at 10pm at night when I am heading to bed as I get up at 5am. Also DH is usually right next to me when she calls at that time. Anyway, the last message I got on Saturday is that now due to legal reasons Disney can't make any Star Wars themed cakes! I am sooooooo disapointed and don't know what to order him now. His other interests are golf and the Colts football but those don't seem very Disney or very special for a Disney birthday celebration. And didn't I just have Darth Vader cupcake at Star Wars weekend this past May!!!!???

That does not make since Disney owns Star Wars. I had this made a couple of years ago I think May 2011 at the contemporary for my husband. Chef Brian did it.

Just ordered a cake for our dd's 3rd bday! It was so easy and friendly. I called the EPCOT number in post #2.

Mini wedding cake
Chocolate cake with dark chocolate mousse filling
White buttercream frosting
Pink and purple Mickey heads with 3 candles and happy bday Megan on it.
$35

It's to be delivered to Coral Reef on Nov 8!

So excited!
I got a helpful cm who had no problem with what I wanted. The whole process took 3 mins!
Thanks everyone, especially lurkyloo!

Okay this may be a very stupid question but where are the places i can have a cake delivered if i order a cake from contemporary?? i apologize if this is already told in this thread.

In addition to making cakes for the Contemporary resort, the pastry team there makes the cakes for Wilderness Lodge, Ft. Wilderness and the Magic Kingdom. However, with a few exceptions, you'd need to place your order through those places, not the Contemporary. Numbers are in Post #2 of this thread. :thumbsup2

You had a Disney's Fairy Tale Wedding, right? Some past brides have had better luck asking their former wedding planners for help with anniversary cake orders (though it's kinda up to whether or not s/he feels like helping you). You might reach out to yours and just ask...

So glad you had a smooth experience—and I can't wait to see how the cake turns out!

Does anyone have a pic of the white choc Belle figure? I want to have this painted & put on a mini wedding cake for my daughter - hope to get yellow icing & red roses to look like Belle's dress. Would love to see a pic of Belle before ordering.

The white chocolate figures are too big for a mini cake, and I believe they won't even put them on a 6-inch cake. You could have them put it on the plate next to the cake, though.

According to this post, some have been able to get the white chocolate figures wtih a 6" cake, if the OP wants to go that route.

Belle standing next to a mini cake would look really nice too, though :)

Thanks! I will probably have them put it on a plate :) I love the mini cakes!

When I called to plan a cake with YC/BC, they said that they would put a white chocolate figure on top of a 6 inch cake, but warned me that the base of the figure would take up almost all of the top of the cake so there wouldn't be a lot of room left over for decorations on top.

I went with an 8" cake because I wanted lots of decorations.

Another silly question can it be delivered to CRT during breakfast (only time we are eating there) other res I have is BOG for 435pm

There was a mini cake. I think for weddings that had white seashells and coral, but the part that interested me was the fondant. It was a mix of diff blues and white to make it look like water. I remember it was a sample pic from the GF. not one that someone posted that they bought.

Can anyone help me find it!

Was it this one?

Is there a possibility to get a cake at Rainforest Cafe in AK ? :confused3

Last time someone on this thread checked, Rainforest wasn't offering specialty cakes. But it never hurts to call and check... (And then let us know if they are!) :thumbsup2
