OFFICIAL Disney Cake Chatter Thread - Part III

I am turning 40 (gasp) at Disney World and I am thinking to order myself a cake? Sounds pathetic but I am going with my husband and our best friend and both of these guys would never think about it...though they will shower me with gifts and are taking me to DW but I think a cake is in order too! So, we are staying at Boardwalk and I am thinking to have a cake delivered to the room the first day and we can eat on it for the week. Or should I deliver it to one of our dinners instead of the room? So many decisions! Also, for these smaller cakes are their still options for custom (Princess cakes, etc?)

I've been contemplating the same thing! I'm also celebrating my big 4-0 at Disney in a few months and I'd like to have a special birthday cake. I had one made for my sister's 50th on a trip back in February and it turned out so great. I know that while my husband might think about ordering one, he'd never know how to go about it. I have thought about doing it myself, but am reluctant to spend the money on myself.

Sorry I can't post a picture, but wanted to post about our anniversary cake. I ordered a 2 tier mini cake to be delivered after our dinner at Yachtsman's Steakhouse. I ordered chocolate cake, chocolate buttercream frosting & dark chocolate moouse filling. The filling actually seemed like just more buttercream, but it was good, so I didn't care. It was decorated with small chocolate buttercream roses. Yes, chocolate overload, but my DH loved it.

Cost was $35. And I used Tables in Wonderland so got the discount. Size was perfect for 2 after a big dinner. My only compliant was the way the waiter presented it. He brought it before asking about/ bringing coffee, so we were done with it before we had our coffee. And the way he worded it, "we want to wish you..." My husband thought they were giving us a cake. I had to tell him I had ordered it.

But it was yummy!

Has anyone tried to order a pie (cherry, apple, blueberry, etc.) instead of a cake to deliver to ADR? Or is this something that I'd have to inquire about from an outside bakery?

The boyfriend is INSISTING no cake, and I know he'd prefer pie over chocolates.

Unfortunately, the restaurants that use that company can only get chocolate or vanilla cakes in standard sizes—nothing smaller than a 6-inch. You could order one to pick up from BoardWalk Bakery on your way into the park maybe...?

15-20 minute walk from the Mexico Pavillion, via the International Gateway Depends on how fast/slow you walk An adult would be able to do it faster without kids ect

Hi all! I've posted a couple of times on this thread, but I'm just about ready to order my cake!

I've been in touch with the bakers for the Magic Kingdom as our rezzie is for CRT. This is the cake I was originally thinking of:

Two layers, with icing like Vanellope's tights and characters in white chocolate.

The bakery quotes me $55 for a mini cake and $75 for a 6 inch cake.

1) Does anyone have any pictures of 6 inch cakes they can share? I've gone back and looked at old threads, but would love to see something more recent.

2) We'll be splitting a cake between myself, DH and my BFF. I'm leaning towards a 6 inch because the mini cake seems too small for three of us. Anybody else have any feedback?

We are looking to order an 8" chocolate cake with peanut butter cup filling covered in fondant (w/buttercream underneath). For decorations we'd like the white chocolate mickey and minnie anniversary figure w/ orange and yellow roses - leaving any other decorations up to the chef to surprise us with. This is for dinner at Liberty Tree Tavern

I called the cake hotline as mentioned in the OP for MK cakes. I got a voicemail message that said to e-mail them with a set of info, which I did. I got this e-mail back today:

Hello,
Thank you for your interest in the Magic Kingdom Cake Hotline. Please see the attached photos of cakes and respond to this email with an order based on the photos and following descriptions:
Our smallest traditional cake is our 6-inch round cake. This is available in either all vanilla or all chocolate and can be decorated with one of our Mickey Mouse medallions. This cake generally serves up to 6 people and costs $21.00 plus tax.
We also offer an 8-inch round cake on which we can screen print a Disney character of your choice. This is available in either vanilla or chocolate and we can personalize it with up to five (5) words. It typically serves 8 people and costs $47.00 plus tax ($32.00 without screenprint).
Another option is our 10-inch round cake with the same options, but it typically serves up to 16 people and costs $75.00 plus tax and gratuity ($45.00 without screen print).
Our Mickey Mouse head cake, which serves up to 10, is in the shape of Mickey’s Head (as the name implies) and is chocolate or vanilla with a dark chocolate ganache over top. We can personalize the serving plate with up to four (4) words. This costs $48.00 plus tax. We can also make this to look like Minnie Mouse’s Head for the same cost ($48.00 plus tax).

Nowhere in the e-mail or the pictures is a custom/fondant covered cake mentioned. I'm a bit confused because we ordered a custom cake for Tony's in March without a problem, but at that time orders were going straight through the Contemporary not the hotline. Do I need to call the hotline again and leave a voicemail so they call me back? Should I contact the Contemporary directly as we did in March?

I got that same email back and was confused as well.

What I did was then email them and say "I'm actually looking for a custom cake" and went into detail about what I was looking for in that cake.

The person I was emailing with then conferred with the bakery and got back to me with a new quote.

Just wanted to update that I have been e-mailing back and forth with Theresa from the Epcot team and have finally decided on a 8" chocolate cake with a screen print of Pirate Mickey (originally wanted Jack Sparrow, but they couldn't do this) Will post some pics once we return.

I will be in wdw about a month before my dd 5th birthday, in which I will be ordering a cake for (2 trips a month and half apart). We will be getting it from the boardwalk bakery, can I talk to someone in person or do they only communicate via email and phone? I want a custom cake and would feel better talking to a real person.

When you call to place the order, let them know that you'd like the direct line or the email of the pastry chef so you can hash out the details of the cake. I was able to chat with a pastry chef at the BoardWalk for the mini cake I had them make us.

I guess phrased that wrong. I wanted to know if I could talk to a physical person not just a voice over the phone. So if I actually walk into the boardwalk bakery can I talk to an actual baker or will they only discuss custom cakes over phone and email?

Called the GF and I have been voicemailing with Pat. I wanted R2D2 mini cake for DH's Birthday during our ressie at Narcossees on his actual Birthday. I wanted one just like the those displayed at the Wedding expo. I am a little peeved that she only ever calls back at 10pm at night when I am heading to bed as I get up at 5am. Also DH is usually right next to me when she calls at that time. Anyway, the last message I got on Saturday is that now due to legal reasons Disney can't make any Star Wars themed cakes! I am sooooooo disapointed and don't know what to order him now. His other interests are golf and the Colts football but those don't seem very Disney or very special for a Disney birthday celebration.

And didn't I just have Darth Vader cupcake at Star Wars weekend this past May!!!!???
