Some of you are very creative. Would you mind helping me with decorating ideas for my DS's 21st birthday cake? I'm calling the Swan/Dolphin tomorrow to order a cake for this weekend. From what they told my DH, they don't offer anything more that writing Happy Birthday on their cakes. I'm going to ask, if we can bring in some decorations to put on it. So far, the only thing we've come up with is a friend's suggestion to use mini liquor bottles. What could I add to those? I've looked online & can't find anything that I think will work. If I do order online, I'll have to order from a site that offers 2 day or overnight shipping. TIA for the help. :)

How about mini dark chocolate liquor bottles...i.e. foil wrapped to reveal what's inside the chocolate, but beyond that- fully edible and drinkable :thumbsup2 I think even Amazon sells them, so it shouldn't be too hard to track down. This way- you get the mini liquor bottles, but everything is fully edible...so it works better with a cake than mini glass bottles. The Anthon Berg ones seem to be the most popular.

That's a great idea. I was hoping you'd reply. :) I was planning to cover the bottles in plastic wrap to protect the cake, but this will work better. What should I add to the bottles or how should I arrange them? I can duplicate almost anything. It's the initial idea that I have a problem with. :o

ETA: The chocolate bottles come in a pack of 64. If they'll allow me to bring in decorations, I was thinking I'd try to get them to write:

21 Bottles for 21 Years!

Happy Birthday, XXXXX

What do you think of that idea? Should I add anything else for decoration?

Do you have a picture of what the 2-tier cake you got looks like. I think this might be what I want to do for my DH birthday. Thank You

Yes! I just need to get photos uploaded and then I'll do a post with all the info. :thumbsup2

If at Tusker house I ordered a basic buttercream cake with the only extra additions by them being grass and a happy birthday name plaque, do you think I could add my own fondant toppings (if I can get them in the country :goodvibes).

If you just bring them with you and stick them on the cake when it's delivered to your table that should work. Otherwise, you'll need to get in touch with someone in the bakery if you're wanting to send them ahead to see if they'll work with you on that. I'd start now, to allow time for phone tag.

Just ordered two cakes for our trip in March. One for a retirement... 6" Lemon with raspberry mousse filling, Mickey wave design with stars coming out the top. Quoted $90

Second is a 10" chocolate chip cake with chocolate ganache filling, zebra print design with hidden Mickeys for a ninth birthday. Quoted $125.

Brian was great to deal with via email and when I called to pay Carolyn was helpful in letting me know they tie the cake reservation to the dinner ressie number.

So excited! Will post pics and give a review when we are there.

I thought I'd report back on Swan/Dolphin cakes.

Room service takes the cake orders. Sorry, I didn't write everything down, but I'll post what I remember. They had chocolate/chocolate (if I remember correctly, it wasn't plain chocolate), vanilla/vanilla, strawberry shortcake, & vanilla with raspberry filling as their basic options. A 6" cake in one of these combinations would have been $45. I ordered an 8" Strawberry Shortcake to have more room to decorate, which was $65. Unfortunately, I didn't think to ask for prices on larger sizes. There were a few others to choose from. Included in this price is writing on the cake. They were willing to write every thing I asked for.

For customized cakes, they have several cake, filling, & icing options available. Custards & fruits were among the options. In order to get your choice of any combination, a 6" cake would start at $150. That included the cake, filling, & icing. After hearing that price, I didn't even bother asking if they would do custom decorations.

She said providing my own decorations wouldn't be a problem. She said to go to the restaurant of choice & tell them what I was there for & they would contact room service. RS would bring me the cake to decorate, then keep it until we returned with the birthday boy. They will serve the cakes on a tray or in a box. I chose a tray & they will box it before we leave.

Thanks to TiggerTrigger's great suggestion I ordered the chocolate liquor bottles http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009LDMNT8/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00 from Amazon. The cake will cost a little over $100 including the bottles, but I think he'll really like it.

I'm so glad you liked it! :thumbsup2 I'm kind in an alcoholic cake phase right now anyway. :rotfl2: Seriously, I'm in the middle of a wine bottle cake, so I'd been scoping out the liquor store and all of the bottle shapes for the right model. I'd seen the chocolate bottles while I was in there- so it was pretty fresh in my mind.

As for what to write on it...I'm kind of in a silly place right now as well :joker: so for whatever reason, the phrase that keeps popping into my brain is:

21 Bottles of Booze on the Cake

i.e. instead of 99 bottles of beer on the wall. :goodvibes

Either way, can't wait to see the cake! :)

I need a few ideas. I found a perfect picture to be printed on the white chocolate with dumbo. But I want to have a couple cute little things from the movie on the cake as well. I tried looking at pics, but didn't find too many things. The only thing is to have peanuts or a bag with peanuts. What other small things would be cute to add to the cake, if anyone can remember the movie lol.
Thanks.

The only things that come to mind for me are the peanuts that you already mentioned, the magic black feather, Timothy mouse, and the circus train. Maybe you could get a general circus tent type of theme on the cake sides, like tent stripes or the traditional circus zigzag pattern.

Is there a "best time" to call to order a cake? I meant to call this afternoon but by the time I remembered, it was about 5:30 ET, and I wasn't sure if they kept particular hours. I'll be calling the Contemporary for a special cake to be delivered to Whispering Canyon on the 24th.

I am looking to get a cake for my wife and my anniversary on 3/4. We are staying at pop century and our ADR that night is for via Napoli. I tried to look through the posts and find out what to do, but I'm a little confused. We didn't have a wedding cake so I'm hoping to have a cute decorated fondant cake (maybe a mini if that's an option) with some colors and writing. What is my best option to call and order that and where would I have it delivered ? The restaurant or hotel? And can they even do this?

Thanks

The first thing I think of with Dumbo is the train...i.e. the Casey Jr. While it would look cute in sculpted 3D or edible image 2D backdrop on top, I could also see at as an edible image (or series of edible images) adorning the side of the cake...so the train wraps around the circumference of the cake.

The second thing I think of is a circus tent, but the best way to articulate this would be to just have the cake covered in strips of fondant to convey the feeling of said tent. Although, it might be cute to combine this tent concept with fondant/gumpaste signage like you might see at the Dumbo ride.

Now if we were to return to the original idea of some other little things on the top of the cake w/the edible image of Dumbo...I think you want to look to things that will give the theme a more cohesive look. Now, I don't know what image you're using of Dumbo, but they could also make a similar stand up 2D edible image of the actual circus tent from Dumbo so it serves as a backdrop on the top of the cake...i.e. edible Dumbo would be in front of the tent. Then you could add in little things like images of peanuts, the feather, Timothy Mouse, etc. While Timothy would have to be an edible image, I'm sure the tent, peanuts, feather, etc. could be sculpted as another option (although probably more costly).

OK...I'll quit rambling. Hope some of it can be of some help. :goodvibes

I have a friend in the UK who was recently able to do this, but she ended up having to call Boatwright's Dining Hall to get in touch with a real person. For some reason, the number the Cake Hotline directs you to is never answered. :sad2:

I've been having the same problem. I've called the POR number (1 407 934 5824) twice now, on Monday and Tuesday, but not had any callback. The voicemail message does say that I've got through to the Port Orleans cake ordering line, and to leave a message and they'll get back to me, but no callback (or even email, I gave them that too) as yet... and we need the cake for Sunday, so getting a little concerned now.

I might send a quick email to the guest services manager there and see what the story is.

My hubby and I stayed at Pop for our anniversary trip too. I called the cake hotline number and followed the prompts that got me to Pop. I left a message explaining that I wanted to order a cake. Janet called me back fairly quickly. I explained that I wanted a mini two tier cake to replicate a wedding cake I saw online. I specified the colors and what i wanted it to say. I even requested chocolate cake with peanut butter filling. Janet was great to work with during the process. Our cake was delivered to our room by the time requested and it was delicious. Our cost was $30 but we did not do fondant and there is an extra charge for that. So just call the number in post #1 to place your order.

Thank you both! Both gave me great ideas. Timothy the mouse is actually in the pic with dumbo that I want on the edible white chocolate. But the Feather, Train and Tent and just a circus theme on the sides are all great ideas. I really appreciate it. Thank you both!

Thanks so much! Did you have to pick it up in the food court or was it delivered to your room?

Help please! I just read all 100 pages of this thread and am hoping someone has the answer. We are staying at AKL on 10/25-28 for my DDs bday (turning 8. She would like to go to Jiko's for her bday dinner. If I'm reading this thread correctly, we would have limited options for a custom 'fancy' cake (ie must be 10" etc). I did note the possibility of having a cake from another resort via Private Dining. I am looking for an Ariel cake 6" or 8". And I would love if Chef Brian could make it. Has anyone has success getting a cake from another resort delivered to AKL via Private dining? If we can't have it at Jiko's, I would love if they could deliver it to the Kilimanjaro club and have it held there. (We are staying CL). Any thoughts/ideas?

I actually just emailed the contemporary the other day asking if they deliver to sanaa. Sadly, they said no they don't deliver there. I'm in the same boat. Have dinner at Sanaa but really wanted Chef Brian to do the cake as I haven't heard the greatest things about the AKL doing custom cakes. We kept our reservation for Sanaa, just changed it to our AK day and our first night were eating at the Wave.
So sadly, no Chef Brian cakes to AKL. Maybe you could give the GF a call and just see. If not, another possibility is picking up a cake from the Boardwalk Bakery. They have made some really nice cakes and is the only place you can pick a cake up at.
