Got this cake from the Boardwalk Bakery for Mother's Day. My hubby ordered it and my girls had me pick it up as my Mothers Day cake since hubby was at work.

It's marbled Ganache over buttercream with van. cake and white choc. mousse filling. The roses and scroll are gum paste. cost 60.00

Now on to what it was like. The butter cream was much too thick and was so sweet it ruined the ganache on it. The cake itself was slightly dry though the mousse was wonderful. We threw most of the cake away as the buttercream was just too sweet. I was disappointed we wanted a cake like my daughter had at her birthday several years before and this just didn't fit the bill. We wanted white chocolate decor on top and got gum paste and the nasty butter cream ruined the whole taste of the cake.

We are ordering another cake for my daughters 9th birthday coming up in a month but went ahead and made lunch ADR's at GF Cafe so we can get our cake from the GF bakery. The next one will be Pirates themed and hoping it will be amazing.

Here is the cake we got from the GF bakery before that was AMAZING and tasted great to boot. I think we paid about 65.00 for this cake. It was marbled ganache, over marbled cake and white choco. mousse filling.

In the words of DD's face Crush-man: "You so totally rock!!!"

:rotfl: :rockband:

Can they put a topper on the cake or can we add one at the last minute? My MIL has a small Tailspin toy that we thought would work if they can't do something for the cake.

If they do a topper it will probably be a flat piece of white chocolate with a screen print, standing up. If it were me, I'd rather ask them to leave room for the toy and put it on myself!

Do you think it might be easier to do the mini cake on the cruise as well?

MUCH! :thumbsup2 (And I love the idea of the cruise to see the lanterns!)

Wow, I knew the Contemporary had the best cake deals, but those really are a steal! I just don't think the GF is going to even come close to those numbers at that level of detail. :worried:

I noticed at least one of those cakes was from 2009. The cakes seem to have gone up a lot everywhere since then. Thanks in part to this thread they probably became so popular the powers that be decided they could get more for them. Plus, raising the price may help lessened the load on the cake decorators. It may have led to fewer people ordering elaborate cakes.

Ok I tried to order an 8 inch Haunted cake from Pat at the Grand Floridian. I had reviewed the pics here on the DIS and someone said they paid around $65 for theirs but it was from the Contemporary. We have 16 days until our trip so I was giving her the two weeks some have recommended.

She left me a message and said that there is no way they could do that cake for any less than $125.00 because of the fondant work and that they would need more time for the skulls but could possibly due the chocolate tombstones. She mentioned they could do a screen print on top of the cake for that price. No way. Chef Brian did a great cake for us last year for around $75.00 so I don't want a super plain cake for that price.

I have a budget of about $80.00. I left her a message asking if they could do mostly buttercream and limit the fondant work to reduce the price. I mentioned screen printing the side with the HM wallpaper and still incorporating the black roses and HM picture frame and just eliminate the skulls and coffins. I haven't heard back from her yet. Does this seem doable?

I ordered an elaborate cake from GF, Pat, also. It was $150. However, I respect the work and time involved in a fondant, detailed cake...my daughter used to work at Disney doing the wedding cakes and is now a professional cake specialist.

I hope you can get an amazing cake ordered!;)

Thank you. How awesome that your daughter made Disney wedding cakes! Pat makes some amazin g cakes, they truly are works of art. We just want to order something with a good Haunted Mansion theme not super fancy, just not a screen print grocery store type cake either. I emailed Chef Brian to see what he can come up with, he did such a super job on our last cake. Maybe we can still make it special a
and still within our budget. :) We get a cake every year when we go to WDW so we like it to be fun but I usually try to spend less than $100.

Absolutely!!! I'm sure Chef Brian will work with you::yes:: Stay within your budget, and I'm sure you will get an awesome cake:goodvibes

Brian emailed me this morning and we ordered a 8 in chocolate cake with peanut butter cup mousse with a Haunted Mansion theme for $85! Totally within our budget! He is just so great and easy to work with!!!!!! :cool1::cool1::cool1:

Hi I had just ordered a great bday cake from AKL when I found out my daughter has a peanut allergy. They say they won't do my cake anymore. True? Anyway. Does anyone have any feedback on Babycakes. I know they work with coconut, so I`ll be clearing that with the doctor, but I`d love to know how their cakes taste, look, etc. Anyone have a picture. I am thinking of the vanilla with vanilla buttercream. I`d really like some nice decorations. Is that an option. I know they won`t do anything Disney, but I can work with that. My daughter`s safety is paramount. TIA

I'm planning to attend a convention at WDW next summer and I so want to order one of the beautiful cakes I've seen. I'm diabetic so a minicake would last me for a week!

OK- I don't have any feedback on Babycakes, but would it be possible for you to use one of the other resort bakeries for your cake? My DD5 was diagnosed w/ peanut and tree nut allergies a couple of months before her 5th bday trip last summer and her cake was done by the Contemporary Bakery. I let Chef Brian know about the allergies and the only thing that posed a potential cross contamination issue was the white chocolate Belle topper we added to the cake. She ate (and loved) her cake and had no issues.

Hi everyone. I would like to order a cake for my parents 28th anniversary which we will be celebrating while we are there. I would like to get an 8" cake and have it delivered to Ohana's. Do they deliver there? And if so what kind of decorations or options do I have i I want to keep it around $50? Any help would be great. I think I need to call soon to place the order.

I'm going to look into this because I would like a Disney themed cake. All Babycakes will do are rosettes. They aren't allowed to do anything Disney. Animal Kingdom was very cut and dried about it, saying that Babycakes handles all allergy cakes, not the resorts, but I know answers vary depending on whom you ask. Thanks. Now I just have to find his email. Anyone?

I am sure someone else on this thread will know for sure but I believe that the Grand Flordian bakery services the Poly resort. If you look on the first page of this thread there are some helpful phone numbers etc. for Private Dining. There is also a link to a thread that has cake pictures so you might be able to look through those to see if there is something you like.

Looking for a little help!
I am want to get a simple cake to celebrate a few birthdays in our party while we are @ disney next week. (23-30)
We are at CSR and i would like to just bring it to our room to celebrate. I tried calling the hotline and ended up at room service? :sad2: Having two kids run around might not help, lol.
Any advice? There are 6 of us in our group.
TIA!

I was also wondering when and how you pay for the cake. If I was having it delivered to Ohana's would they charge me now or when it is delivered. I wouldn't want it just put on the bill.

For us, they have always taken our credit card number when we made the cake order but waited to bill us until we get the cake. They have always asked me if I wanted it billed to the table so I am sure you could make other arrangements if needed.

Try the Boardwalk Bakery. I know they deliver or you can pick it up. Very easy to work with.

If you only need a simple buttercream cake with Disney's standard decor (sprinkles, fake flowers), just call the Cake Hotline listed in the first post of this thread. If you wanted something elaborate, you'd need to call Private Dining at the Grand Floridian (see Post #2) to order and have them deliver it to the Poly. But it's very difficult to get a cake of that size for only $50 from the GF, so ordering straight from the Poly via the Cake Hotline is probably your best bet.

We're not allowed to post cast member emails on the DIS. If you call Private Dining at the Contemporary (see post #2), they can put you in touch with Chef Brian.

That's because room service takes the cake orders at Disney resorts. :thumbsup2 CLICK HERE for info on the cake options at CSR. They also have pre-made square cake slices in 3 or 4 flavors at the small snack counter in the lobby. One of those would probably feed 2 people, so you could buy a couple of different flavors.

I was also wondering when and how you pay for the cake. If I was having it delivered to Ohana's would they charge me now or when it is delivered. I wouldn't want it just put on the bill.

Standard practice is to bill you with the meal even if they take your credit card beforehand, so I'd specify when you order AND check to be sure it's not on the bill when it comes.

My BIL is a big fisherman. We wanted to get a Mickey/fishing cake. Has anyone seen this done before? I wonder what kinds of things they can do :confused3
