The Grand Floridian serves the white chocolate slipper, which always comes with the dark chocolate "boat." Last time I checked, the price was still $15.

Thank you luryloo for the info, I had no idea that chocolate thing was a boat but it makes sense now that I went back and looked at it.

Fondant-covered cakes are covered in buttercream frosting underneath the fondant, so there's no need to compromise. :thumbsup2 Also, you can request to have buttercream frosting between the layers instead of one of the various mousse fillings Disney offers, if you really love buttercream.

I wonder if you could request a side order of buttercream in a cup??? Isn't buttercream the stuff that makes the world go around???? There's no such thing as too much..... :lovestruc

Hi all!

We are coming for our first ever trip to Disney in September/October, combining a bunch of celebrations together :)

The main ones are my husband and mine's 10th wedding anniversary, and also hubby's actual birthday.

We are hoping to have a kid-free night out with dinner at the yachtsman steakhouse for our anniversary, and we also have dinner at CRT booked which happens to fall on hubby's actual birthday.

So, i am tossing up between getting an anniversary cake for the steakhouse, or getting a birthday cake for him at CRT on his birthday (along with some slipper desserts for the kids). I am the disney freak of the 2 of us, so his birthday cake would probably be not a Disney theme. Or, as another alternative that will most likely be preferable, could i get the annniversary cake delivered to our room? We are staying at the Wilderness Lodge.

I have read a lot on here about the different resorts that do the private dining cake orders - is one better than the other? Would I use the contemporary private dining for both these options? Should I go with anniversary or birthday? Definitely not doing both!! Do I have to phone or can I email? We are in South Africa and email is just so much easier!!

Any opinions greatly appreciated!!

Thanks everyone :thumbsup2

I don't think I ever posted here before about our anniversary cake, but maybe I have (sorry if it's a repeat!)

Price - $50ish
Date Received - September 7, 2008
Location - Narcoossee's at Grand Floridian
Cake info - Special request to replicate the top of our wedding cake (fondant). I emailed a pic of the cake from our wedding and asked that they also include some "hidden Mickeys" in the scrollwork. They did a great job! The cake was gigantic. They boxed it up and sent it to our room (stayed at GF) after we left the restaurant, but unfortunately it was too big for the fridge so it didn't last very long.

Am I crazy for ordering three cakes for our upcoming trip? One is a welcome cake delivered to our room on the 13th. Small 6 inch. The next is for my daughter's 5th birthday which is why we chose this week that one I am ordering a 10 inch cake. The next is on the 18th for my parents 32 anniversary that one is a 8 inch which is another reason we chose this week in August. My husband is worried about a cake over load but I want it to be very special. It is our first vacation all together and there is so many celebrations. There is two other birthdays that were a few weeks ago so the first 6 inch was a celebration welcome to Disney theme. Plus I graduated from college after going part time for so long I designed that one to make it how I wanted it. Fondant Mickey stamps pink and red sugar flowers. I am just worried my husband might be right and I am over doing it a bit?

I just got done telling someone this very same thing but for an entirely different reason: There are some things in life I just don't feel like it's possible to have too much of.... glitter, buttercream, the color pink, chocolate, cupcakes, and even freckles. :cutie: What it boils down to is how you feel about it. If all the cakes makes you happy then it's not too much. They serve their purpose successfully. Right?

Yes, I think its crazy. I also think its awesome, and that its a great idea to celebrate all you can. This is a Disney World vacation - this is where you "do" crazy! Go overboard, have a great time, and make all the memories you can!

I agree!! this vacation I want to be very memorable! We have so many things to celebrate I want to make sure everyone leaves there happy (More happy than they would anyways LOL)

My daughter's 5th Birthday cake (from the Contemporary to Chef Mickey's)
My parents 32 Anniversary cake (at Cape May so Beach Club)

I saw these pictures up today at www.mousesteps.com and thought I'd post them on here. Super cute and creative :) Again, these are not my pictures so I hope it's ok for me to post this..?

It's great to post the link to their site and let us know they have new cake pictures but you shouldn't post their pictures here without their permission. That is called hotlinking.

Hotlinking is when other people use your files directly from your site, meaning that each time the file is viewed through their site, you lose bandwidth.

This means that Mousesteps could end up paying for the bandwidth. Especially when there is so much traffic like here on the DIS, it could cause a problem.

Who knows—maybe I have it all wrong and it's s'posed to be a leaf or something! :rotfl:

That's what I'd do—have it delivered to your room. That way it's already at its destination and you don't have to schlep it around WDW. Also, it could be a combo anniversary/birthday cake to kinda cover all the bases.

If you want a fancy cake, order it from Private Dining at the Contemporary and let them know you need it delivered to Wilderness Lodge. Unfortunately, you have to phone to place the order, but you can send in the photos/description by email.

Thanks, lurkyloo! :thumbsup2

No problem! :goodvibes

Also, can I ask one more quick question - when you have pre-ordered the slipper dessert at CRT, do they bring it after your normal dessert, or is it a substitution for the normal dessert? The kids would love to still do the decorate your own cupcake I am sure!!

Thanks :thumbsup2

The cupcake shops up here sell buttercream shots....mmmm, good~:hyper:

Our slipper desserts were brought right before our other desserts came out. So it was a whole lot we did not even finish any of it. We focused on the slippers and tried a bite of the normal dessert just to try it and left the rest.

I am sure it is gonna be WAY too much food, especially as my girls as very light eaters anyway, but I know they will love the experience.

Luckily my 18 month old son is a little piglet ;)

Oh absolutely the experience is awesome! Very well worth it!! :thumbsup2

Here is a sketch of a Tangled cake I sent off to the Boardwalk Bakery to have delivered on the 20th. I'll post what the finished product looks like when we get it. :)

It's going to be vanilla with strawberry mousse filling.
