jzzikamarie: your cake is awesome! And you got it delivered to CRT - fantastic.

We are ordering a cake for DS's 4th birthday (November 2). We are heading to WDW on October 22, and I would really like to have the cake arranged before we go. We will need a monorail cake at Chef Mickey's. I wonder if 2 weeks beforehand will be too early to order it?

Thank you!

I started calling about 2 months before hand because I heard it was so hard to get a custom cake delivered anywhere unless you were dining at a specific restaurant. I started calling the different bakeries, and basically begged to managers about what I wanted...as you see they finally gave in, ha! If nothing else, just be persistent and let them know you want a fresh custom cake. Definitely try Boardwalk Bakery...it's worth a shot! Good luck to you!

Hi

We will be in Disney for our son's 11th birthday in November. He is into all sports but primarily soccer and basketball. Any ideas for a great cake I can order for him? He also loves roller coasters. Our last night in Disney is his actual birthday and we have ADRs for California Grill that night. We are a group of 10. Thanks for any suggestions. :thumbsup2

Another great way to get ideas is to search on Flickr.com using "cake" and the appropriate keywords, like "soccer," "basketball," and "roller coaster."

Any ideas on a birthday cake for my DH at the Sci-Fi?

Last time, I ordered a cake for him at CSR to be delivered to the room. I had to call them when we got to the room that night, they had forgotten. I would love to have a car theme for him! TIA!

At Sci-Fi your choices are podium cake or standard choc/choc or vanilla/vanilla cake with very basic decorations or a screen print. Call the Cake Hotline and follow the prompts—the person you speak with can give you the most up-to-date info on what's available.

I haven't been over to this thread in a while, but after seeing Brian's beautiful creations I just have to have one for our 3 yr anniversary/engagement celebration dinner at California Grill in February! So my questions

1. If we need it for the beginning of February, when should I reach out about ordering the cake?

2 weeks before

2. Do I call CR private dining directly to get in touch with Brian (ie be given his email) or can I just have someone on here PM me his email and get started on my own?

I'd call Private Dining first just so he knows to expect your email and it doesn't get lost in a spam filter or something.

Two weeks is the perfect amount of time. For Chef Mickey's, no crying or begging is involved because the Contemporary resort has a capable and creative pastry chef who makes many of the elaborate cakes seen in this thread, including numerous monorail cakes. You can either call the Cake Hotline and follow all the prompts or call the CR directly, ask for private dining, and tell them you want an elaborate, fondant-covered cake and need the contact info for the pastry chef.

Okay, I just decided to get my DD a custom cake for her birthday and I'm already frustrated! We're staying at the AKL and I wanted to order a custom cake that was savannah themed...chocolate frosting with the peanut butter cup mousse filling, and some trees and a few fondant figures with zebras, giraffes, etc roaming on the cake. I called private dining, and they offered me the zebra cake or mickey mouse head cake. Then I called the cake hotline, listened to the prompts for AKL, and called them. They said the cannot do any fondant figurines or cake toppers and to try the Grand Floridian. I recalled the cake hotline and got the GF. They will do my cake, but I have to eat at one of their restaurants (We're not planning on eating at the GF, and takes away from the whole savannah theme if we're not at our actual resort). Does anyone have any ideas for how to get my savannah themed cake with the fondant figures to the AKL? Who do I call? :confused3 TIA if you can help.

It seems like what happened was that one person was able to get AKL to create an adorable animal-themed cake with fondant figures, but then when others tried, the results were less than stellar and they complained, and now AKL's official line is that they don't do fancy cakes.

Now maybe Kimber will come along and give us her tips for wangling a fancy cake there. In the meantime, is there any way you could get to the GF to pick a cake up from Gasparilla Grill & Games, the counter-service restaurant there? Alternatively, you might call GF Private Dining and see if they will deliver a fancy cake to AKL for a fee (usually $75), or you might try calling BoardWalk Bakery to see if they will deliver to AKL for you.

thanks, lurkyloo! I think with all the trouble this is, I'm going to scrap the AKL savannah idea and think about maybe ordering from the CR. We'll be dining at Chef Mickey's one night, so maybe I can do cake there...DD loves the monorail, so maybe I can go that route...except, what the heck do we do with the cake after? We'd be going back to the MK after dinner, and I'd hate to throw out the rest of the cake. Oh well, guess I'm going back to the drawing board!

Does anyone know if the Grand Floridian will deliver to the Polynesian restaurants??

I'd love to know this as well!
Can anyone share their experiences with having a birthday cake at 'Ohana?? Would love to know our options...

Just ordered my birthday cake after ages reading this board. Ended up going with Winn Dixie. They are making me a golden cake with custard filling and whipped cream on top. The theme will be Mickey flying an airplane. They can get any Deco pac decoration available with five days notice. The cake is on 24.99. I had tried to work with Disney but they were taking ages to respond to my emails and it looked like an eight inch cake with edible image was going to be $64. This is a 1/4 slab and I hear their cakes are tastier than Disney's. Brian is the bakery manager at the Winn Dixie near WDW and he was extremely kind and efficient. I'll let you know how it turns out, but so far, i'm impressed.

In the past Disney restaurants refused to accept anything for their refrigerators from an "outside" source, even if it had been made by another Disney bakery. However, I keep reading more accounts of restaurants hanging on to leftover cake for people, so it might be worth a shot. Another idea: my MIL dropped the huge box of our leftover wedding cake at Bell Services at our resort (Beach Club) and they kept it in a fridge for us—you might try taking it to the Contemporary's Bell Services and see if they can do something similar....

Does anyone know if the Grand Floridian will deliver to the Polynesian restaurants??

Yes, but there may be a fee. The Contemporary will also deliver to the Polynesian, and so far I haven't heard of any fees. It's worth calling both places to see what they say (call Private Dining, tell them you want a fancy custom cake).

I'd love to know this as well!

The Polynesian restaurants only offer the standard 6-inch or 8-inch or 10-inch chocolate and vanilla cakes with standard decorations or a screen print. They do not have the ability to do fancy fondant-covered cakes, if that's what you're after. :thumbsup2

We had to use bell services for our cake from 1900 Park Faire (made and delivered by the GF bakery).

Yesterday I ordered a Mickey cake from Winn Dixie and was so excited. Today the Boardwalk Bakery finally got back to me and said they could make my piped Mickey head (like the one on this board) that I wanted. They took so long to get back to me that I went elsewhere. Now I'm wondering if I should cancel my Winn Dixie cake. Should I just be happy with what I've ordered? Will it be as good as a Disney cake?

I need some help in finding the picture of a cake that I KNOW I saw on here somewhere but can't seem to find now!!!!!!

I think it was a mad hatter shape with different colored fondant Mickeys all over the sides of the cake. Not sure if the cake itself was Mickey themed..I only remember the fondant Mickeys since this is exactly what I wanted for my sons cake.

Can anyone help?????

THANKS!!
Angela

Hi - we just got back from our trip and I wanted to post about our awesome cake experience! I called about 2 weeks before we left - I spoke to a very nice lady on the cake line about a cake for my daughters bday. Here is the info..

Price: $48

Date Received - 9-14-2010

Location - Whispering Canyon Cafe

Cake info - Flavors, special requests, etc - I called and had wanted a "Mickey Head Cake" that I had seen frequently on here. I asked if they could "Minnie-ize" it and she said no problem! We were very happy with the cake. It came out with candles - and we lit it and sang Happy Birthday with Jethro.
The cake itself was very good. A little rich with the filling, but good.

Here are the pics:

What cake flavor/filing choices are avail for the mickey/minnie head cake, is it just vanilla or chocolate?

I've never had a Winn Dixie cake, so I can't compare, but if what you really wanted was a Mickey Head cake and there's no penalty for canceling the WD cake, go for it!

Just vanilla or chocolate.
