Okay, I have a question for all you cake gurus...

We are going in January and want to order a custom bday cake for my son's girlfriend. I love the fondant cakes, am willing to pay for the fondant cakes-however, I have a buttercream loving family (husband has been known to walk out of wedding receptions if he didn't like the look of the cake!)

I know they put buttercream under the fondant, but how much and can I request extra? Would white chocolate ganache be any better than fondant?

The only buttercream option I have seen is the 2D Lion King with flowers that I kind of like.

Help me please....

I don't know how much fondant they use, but when I was making cakes, I put a thin layer, just to hold the fondant, kind of like glue.

Chocolate ganache is pure heaven, sooo much better than fondant. I'm just not sure I want it on cake. It's good on cake, but to me cake is about the buttercream.

I thought I saw a recent post about this, but I can't find it. Does anyone have any tips on how to keep the cake a secret from your dining companion when checking in at the podium/with your server? I just ordered a cake for our 10th anniversary dinner at CG & I want it to be a surprise for DH.

Well, the part where Cinderella's foot goes is hollow so they can fill it with mousse, if that's what you mean. :rotfl: But the rest of the shoe is solid. :thumbsup2

BoardWalk Bakery makes the cakes for CB, but you have to order through CB if you want it delivered. Complete ordering info can be found HERE QUOTE]
I called CB bakery line today and sent her the email with a picture of the cake. Told her I wanted the same cake.. she quoted me a price of $175!?!?!?!??

The poster on here said she paid around $118 with tax and tip!! anyone have any idea why the price difference?

Hi Everyone,
We are home from 9 days and 2 birthday celebrations!
Both cakes were delicious and from the GF bakery.
My nephew's cake with the monorail was served at O'hana's. I did buy the toy monorail for the back of the cake and stuck it in before they served it. I wanted him to have something to take as a memory.

My cake was served at Narcossee's and was also delicious!!!!!

I am a HUGE buttercream fan and, believe me, Disney puts plenty of buttercream under the fondant on their cakes—it's not just a crumb coat.

Re: ganache, if you are a buttercream fan, I think the ganache will only disappoint. It just doesn't have that fluffy, sugary, buttery element to it.

Well, I usually get up from the table, track down our server while pretending to look for the restroom, and mention it to them then. And when we first get there, I charge up to the podium ahead of everyone else if I'm going to mention it there. :teeth:

Prices vary by bakery. I can't remember which cake you're after, but if it came from the Contemporary, you should know that theirs are the lowest prices on property. So when you show it to another bakery that didn't have a hand in making the original, they can only estimate what it will cost THEM to make it, not match the Contemporary's price. However, you can always go back to them and ask what they can change about the design to lower the price. :thumbsup2

The 2 cakes I just posted were.....

Monorail cake $95 with tax & tip (served 6 or 8 I forget)
yellow cake with dark chocolate mousse & buttercream

The blue cake was $225 with tax & tip (served 12)
fondant covered chocolate cake with custard & strawberries

I have posted about this before and apologize for asking again but...

I want to get my adult daughter a small cake as we will be there on her actual 27th birthday (me and her dad and her SO). Yes she can always order a dessert, but cake makes a birthday a birthday.

I was thinking of ordering the 2 tiered mini wedding cake for our dinner at the California Grill. I can't figure out how to post the pic but its #2974 on the cake thread from 8/24. Its pretty and pink but just a little bit sloppy looking.

Then I saw the beautiful mini cakes from the BW bakery posted on 10/10 ("3212). Wow! These were just gorgeous and reportedly tasted great.

So, if you were the birthday girl, would you be happier getting your little cake at a restaurant after dinner, or would you enjoy the experience as much if Mom and Dad delivered it to you? (We are staying at the BWV's and she is at the BCV's)

In other words, public celebration at CG or private celebration at BCV's?

The only reason that cake was sloppy-looking was that it had been sitting out for 3 or 4 hours by the time we got there to take a picture. :thumbsup2

I think if it were me, I'd just be happy to get cake. The one thing about having it served in a restaurant is that sometimes you have to remind the server about it on the sly, but at California Grill that shouldn't be the case.

Another thing to consider is that it might be more convenient for her if you brought it to her at BCV (presumably its final destination) rather than her having to carry the box from CG back to her room.

Hello! I'm new to this thread but I heard this is the place to go if I want a cake at Disney! My DH & I will be celebrating our 15th anniversary on 11/9 so we're heading to Disney for 5 nights. We're bringing our kids along to help us celebrate & staying at BWV from 11/8-11/13. I would love to surprise my DH with a cake but I think I want to get it on 11/8 to have in our villa for the 5 days. Our anniversary is 11/9 but we're going to MVMCP that night so we aren't having our anniversary dinner until 11/11. I don't want to wait until 11/11 to get our cake since we'll be leaving bright & early on 11/13.

I love the mini wedding cakes in post 3212 (p. 215) & think I want to order something like this in chocolate. My question is, do they make this design in various sizes? There will be four of us so we would probably want two of these smaller cakes, unless we can get one bigger one.

Also - I can't decide whether to pick it up at the Boardwalk Bakery myself or have it delivered to the room. From what I understand, if I want it delivered, I need to order through BWI/BWV private dining but if I want to pick it up, I order directly through Boardwalk Bakery. Is that right? Do we need to be in the room to have it delivered? And is there an extra charge for delivery?

Thanks for your help!

Our Anniversary Cake from a few years ago....not sure if we ever posted it.

You can get those decorations (or pretty much anything you want) on a single-tier 6-inch cake that will be more than enough for 4, but if you mean that you want a bigger cake with two tiers, then you're looking at $200+. You would just need to work with someone at BoardWalk Bakery and send them the photo of what you want.

Yep!

You don't need to be in the room when it's delivered, and there is no extra charge for delivery. I'd have it delivered and save the hassle!

Thanks for your quick reply! I've actually spent quite a bit of time looking at more cakes today & am thinking of going with a single layer 8-10 inch cake (so we can eat it for a few days). I'm hoping they can add some tropical flowers since we got married in Jamaica. I'll have to dig out a picture of our cake & my bouquet. :goodvibes Thanks!!

Cute cake....

2 questions: How much did that cost and how many did that serve?

Thanks...

---Paul in Southern NJ

It was the smaller version of our wedding for an anniversary so it was just the 2 of us. We did have cake for the week:thumbsup2

My guess would be it would server 18+ people easy.

It was $275 without tax & delivery.

Hi. :) Need anyones opinion, which one to choose for 10 inch cake:
- Vanilla choc. filling
- fruit mousse filling
- buttercream filling

Which one is everyone favorite? I know I love buttercream but wondering how the rest taste. Getting my cake from the Yactsman. Thanks:thumbsup2

I called the number listed for Port Orleans. I left a message but I am not certain this is the right number. It just said, "The person at this extension is not available". How long should I give them before I call back? I will want it a week from today. Last year when we tried to order one, I called closer to two weeks out. i was hoping waiting until a week out might help us in being more successful.

Thanks

I'd give it one day and then call back - the person may be out today. If you still get that message, call the Cake Hotline number listed on the first page of this thread and follow the prompts. If that directs you to the same extension, call Port Orleans directly and ask to speak to someone at Boatwright's. Then you can explain what you're trying to do.

Sorry, I know this must be somewhere but I can't find it. What are the available filings from the GF bakery? Thanks so much in advance.
