I found this picture online but not sure what could be done with it? I'll have to think on that one.

Ok, can anyone with some creative genius help me out? Between getting a cake for hubby's retirement ceremony and the general stress of moving, retirement and finacinal security I cannot for the life of me think of anything cute for Disney. And time is running out!

Yacht & Beach Club has its own pastry team so BoardWalk Bakery will not deliver there. They turn out just as (if not more) elaborate cakes, so you're in good hands. I'd call ASAP though - they need 72 hours' notice, and sometimes it takes a while to hear back from the pastry chef.

If you tell them you want allergen-free they will make you order from Erin McKenna's Bakery at Disney Springs.

Thanks. But Erin McKenna's is not tree nut safe according to their website. Do you know of other options?

Yeah, and Disney's pre-made "allergen free" cakes aren't either. I'd start Googling around for a local bakery that can deliver what you'd need.

Hi, two questions:
1. Does Pat have an email to contact her at or just the phone # listed on the first page?
2. The painted white chocolate figures, does anyone know how long they would last/stay looking nice? Thinking of buying one and taking it home to save for DD b-day.
Thanks

Yes, but we are not allowed to post cast member email addresses on the DIS. When you call that number you can ask for it.

Indefinitely, if kept away from excessive heat, sunlight or cold (well, and bugs!). Many brides preserve their white chocolate castle cake toppers for years by simply placing them under a dome in a temperature-controlled environment.

Perfect! Thanks so much!!!

For those of you that have enjoyed Disney cakes can you tell me if you have found cupcakes anywhere in WDW that you really love as well? I'm going back on Mother's Day and I was debating ordering myself a mini cake for our resort, but I'm not sure I can stomach $50 on a cake that will only be for myself (DS can't eat it because of allergies).

I've only tried 2 cupcakes so far at Disney. I had a strawberry cupcake a the Boardwalk Bakery that was really good and then the Butterfinger cupcake at HS that was very disappointing. I'm okay with chocolate cake but not a fan of chocolate frosting. Can anyone suggest a place to get a great cupcake or a particular flavor that was really good? I thought I remembered a cupcake thread somewhere too so I'll try and search for that as well.

TIA!

I have to agree—that Butterfinger cupcake at DHS was one of the most spectacularly disappointing Disney desserts I've ever had. Honestly, most of the Disney cupcakes I've had are too big, with too much dry cake and maybe some gloppy stuff in the middle that resembles cold hot fudge. The Tres Leches cupcake I had at the Contemporary resort's quick-service place was decent, but it was one of their specials, which change all the time. You might want to check, though, and see if they're doing anything appealing while you're there. Another idea might be a cake slice from BoardWalk Bakery—those usually have a better ratio of frosting to cake. Or you could do one of the pre-made Celebration Cakes that you can ask for at the podium when you check in for your table-service restaurant reservation. Those are only $23 and on par with one of your better supermarket bakery cakes. Yeah, they're not gourmet, but I like them better than just about any Disney cupcake I've had.

Okay, here goes. Been looking through most of the thread, and I think I know what I want to order. I just wanted to post to see if it sounds right, and maybe ask a few questions.

We arrive at AKL May 17th, and will be checking out May 21st. Wanted to get a little surprise our daughters (3.5 & 2), and my wife loves chocolate cake :D. We aren't likely to finish off the cake all at once, so would like to finish it off a bit each day (leftover in fridge). The plan is to order as follows:

Call 407-938-4720
Order an 8 inch customer chocolate cake, with chocolate mousse filling (see trend), and whipped cream frosting.
Would like to request some type of frozen theme (I am good with whatever they come up with).
Would like to have it delivered to room, but will pick up if needed.

Sound okay? Not sure if they will deliver to a room before we check in, but not a big deal. I will be calling in, but wasn't sure if there was an email address I could use instead. I prefer to email.

Thanks,

Yep! That's what you do! They don't have a generic email address you can use at AKL, unfortunately. And yes, they will deliver it to your room. Whether or not it's there before you check in varies. Some people who've done online check-in report seeing the cake when they arrived at the room. An 8-inch may not fit in your fridge, unless you're in a villa with full-sized fridge. But Bell Services can keep it for you (just not as convenient for snacking...)

Thank you so much for the info and feedback. Guess we'll need to eat/share more of the cake if we want to store it in the mini-fridge. :thumbsup2

Called Private Dining for AKL at 407-938-4720, and spoke with Virginia (very nice and helpful). I explained that I wanted to order a cake for an upcoming visit, she asked if I wanted it delivered or would be picking up. When I said delivered, she asked if I had a resort reservation. I gave that to her, and she found my reservation. I am guessing the cake order with private dining will show on the reservation. I then explained what I wanted (see below), and she took the order. After consulting with the restaurant baker/chef she came back with a cost, and asked for my credit card to hold the cake order. Just told them I was looking for a Frozen them for our two daughters on their first WDW visit. Went pretty well.

Order:
8 Inch Chocolate Cake
Dark Chocolate Mousse Filling (they only offered Dark Chocolate Mousse or White Chocolate Mousse, but wife loves dark chocolate so we're good)
Whipped Cream Icing
Frozen Theme - Was first offered the printed charter top, but declined. Sounds like a light blue icing (frozen color) with snow flakes of some sort, and Have a Magical First Visit (or something like that) written on cake. Sounds good to me.
Quote was $55 (cake, delivery, misc, and tax)

Will take pictures and share results afterwards.

Thanks again.

I had them do a Frozen theme for a mini last year, and this is what we got. I expect yours will be similar. Sorry the slice looks so mangled....DD had already started picking at it before I got a picture!!

ETA: there were also candy snowflakes standing on top.

I think that would work great, we'll see. Thanks

Can someone tell me how big the mini cakes actually are? All I've seen so far is that they feed 2...we like cake so our serving size is generally bigger than a "normal serving" My boys both have September birthdays that we want to celebrate while we are there but one will be 3 and the other 16 so one theme won't really work =)

I love cake and do not know the meaning of the phrase "too sweet," but I can still barely eat half of a 2-tier mini cake in one serving cuz it's so rich. Here is a picture of a 1-tier mini cake next to a carton of milk, if it helps:

And here's a 2-tier mini cake on a standard dinner plate:
