Yes! Chocolate ganache can be used as filling. My new favorite flavor combo at Disney is vanilla cake with a combo of peanut butter frosting (not their mousse version - too bland) and chocolate ganache in the middle. Chocolate cake is OK too!

Wow is that a Fozzie Bear cake? Where did you get that made and who did you deal with? That's peanut butter icing on the outside, fondant too or no? I'm going in December with my boyfriend and he loves the Muppets, especially Kermit, Rowlf, and Fozzie and I would love to get a Muppet cake made for him!

$500 (Just shy of $400USD) CAD for both cakes. 8in gluten-free. They looked nice, but no where near $250 worth of nice (IMO) They were inedible - even the kids wouldn't eat them. After this experience I will not order a Disney cake again. I was embarrassed to serve these cakes to my friends. Though the birthday boys thought they were fabulous to look at.

The dark chocolate mousse filling is pretty chocolatey, almost like a dark fudge layer when we had it.

I thought about the dark chocolate mousse, but all the mousse filling contain gelatin so I had to stick with buttercreams. :(

Oh. My. Goodness. That looks amazing! Now I'm totally rethinking my flavor combination!!! DH is currently hooked on the peanut butter oreos, so maybe this would be a good option. I ordered a "tall" cake, so I assume that means I have 2 layers of filling, right? Larry, the person I've been working with at Boardwalk Private Dining, is off today but he's back at 5:30am tomorrow morning so I probably have time to make some changes. I hope the Boardwalk will do the chocolate ganache as a filling. It really looks delicious! You get the most fantastic cakes!! I wanna party with you! :joker:

btw - Larry has been awesome to work with!

Do you think it was the fondant icing or the gluten free that didn't taste right? (most kids don't like fondant, and I don't either)
They were very nice looking though.

They are beautiful cakes. Was it the flavor you didn't like? I've had the gluten free cake before and it's definitely not what we've become accustomed to with the GF options these days. But smothered in the delicious frosting and I still enjoyed it. If you had guests who didn't have to be gluten free I could see it being a disappointment.

We are lucky to have some amazing bakeries near our home that do gluten free in a way that you would have no clue it wasn't a typical wheat based cake. I think Disney might still use one of the mixes that in the olden days was as good as it got. In that sense, they haven't quite caught up with the times.

Sorry to hear you weren't happy with them, but I hope they still enjoyed their birthday celebration.

Planning a surprise birthday cake for DS and we (especially him) have a special spot in our hearts for red velvet. We will be at Pop Century. Do yo think we will be happy with a Test Track cake from Boardwalk with red velvet? Any chance it tastes like the "red velvet crust" in the tye-dye cheesecake because I know we like that?

Yes! I posted it earlier in this thread, with all the info on where I got it, how much it cost, etc. I'll repost it below...

Yes! A tall cake should have four layers of cake and filling in between each. And BWB can do ganache because they make the Mickey head cakes, which are covered in ganache.

Not sure what the tie-dye cheesecake tates like, but we enjoyed our red velvet cake with cream cheese buttercream frosting at the BoardWalk.

***REPOST!***

OK, I've got another fabulous cake from Chef Brian & Co. at the Contemporary for you!

My husband is a huge Muppets fan, and Fozzie Bear is his favorite. I inquired about doing a cake with Fozzie's face on it, kinda like this Animal cake, but they are only allowed to do screen prints of the characters, and the only image they are authorized to use that has Fozzie in it is a group shot. So instead I asked for an "interpretive" version of Fozzie covered in his fur, wrapped in his polka dot tie and topped with his pork pie hat.

I was a little worried when the Private Dining cast member who took my order kept referring to "Ozzie Bear" (who doesn't know the Muppets???), but all the details were in my emails to Chef Brian. I didn't send any inspiration photos besides this nice shot of the Fozzie puppet and a pic of a cake with a fondant hat on it.

Price: $106

Size:
8-inch

Date Received: 9/26/14

Location: California Grill

Flavors: Chocolate cake with a filling of layered chocolate ganache and peanut butter buttercream frosting (NOT mousse). I was trying to replicate the taste of BoardWalk Bakery's late, lamented chocolate-peanut butter cake slice, and it worked!

The cake turned out EXACTLY as I'd pictured it, with amazingly accurate buttercream fur in exactly the right shade. The moment he spotted it, my husband exclaimed, "Fozzie!" and his face lit up like a kid's. Priceless!

Even better, this cake tasted fantastic! I have officially found my all-time favorite Disney cake flavor combo. The fudgey chocolate ganache made all the difference, and the buttercream "fur" all over the cake didn't hurt!

Maybe I missed this, but is there any filling in a 2 tier mini cake? I didn't think so, since Brian never mentioned it, but wanted to check.

We were offered vanilla cake with vanilla mousse filling or chocolate cake with chocolate mousse filling in our mini.

YAY!!! I'll call Larry first thing in the morning to see if we can make a change. If I can do different flavors for each filling layer, I might split up the peanut butter frosting and the chocolate ganache into their own layers. Fingers crossed that Larry can pull it off!

Quick question. How long does it usually take to get a return call from the cake hotline after leaving a message or should I just call back? This will be my first time ordering a cake. It will be for my DD's 2nd birthday which we'll be celebrating on the actual day at Chef Mickey's. We're really excited as it will also be our first trip with her. I emailed the Contemporary email address the other day with my pretty specific request and received a response back from Donald. He provided me with a price and told me to call the cake line to place the order. It's a couple of weeks away yet so I'm just curious if I should wait it out a few more days or just try again.
Thanks!

Going in November to celebrate DS 12th birthday and DH 40th birthday! Has anyone done a Mad Hatter cake without fondant - just buttercream? I like the look of the fondant but not sure if everyone would like the taste. Opinions?

This is going back a couple years now, so this may have changed, but we had initially ordered fresh strawberry filling for our 2 tier mini cake. However, after seeing the $10 cost we dropped it.

I'm sure it varies but I have always received a response within 24-48 hours. I've found email to be faster.

Yes, you can have any kind of filling they offer except fresh fruit. I even got my beloved peanut butter frosting with chocolate ganache in a mini cake once!

If you don't hear back in a few days, call to confirm. Then call a few days before the delivery to reconfirm.

There is always buttercream frosting under the fondant - that's how the fondant adheres to the cake. Disney won't do a buttercream-only Mad Hatter cake.

Just arrived back from an incredible vacation! About 3 weeks ago I ordered a cake through Boardwalk Bakery to be delivered to Caribbean Beach Resort the morning of my birthday. I wanted a more customized cake, but what me and Dorothy talked about sounded fine and it fit my parents' budget (actually was under!) so that was great.

I asked for a vanilla cake with vanilla frosting and requested it be gluten & nut free (my allergies). I asked for pink and purple flowers and little Mickey Mouse swirls with "Happy Birthday Ashton" on it. She quoted me $23 but I figured I would be charged more once it was delivered since i've heard they charge a little more for gluten free cakes.

This is what I received-

We ordered the little Minnie decorations off Easy just to add a little more decoration to the cake. The cake overall tasted great! My dad tried a small slice of it and said it tasted decent to be gluten free but that was the only slice he ate. He did say it was dense, but most gluten free cakes are. I absolutely loved it! My mom loved it as well and she doesn't eat gluten free at all.

It was a vanilla cake- I double checked the slip that was attached with the order info but it looked like a carrot cake or spice cake. I remember a recent post on here saying the gluten free vanilla cakes looked like a carrot or spice cake, so I knew it had to be vanilla. It did taste like a spice cake and had that same consistency, which I didn't mind at all. Plus the frosting was delicious! I was indeed charged $23 plus the $3 delivery fee and 18% gratuity. Overall, I would definitely order a cake from Disney again!
