And why are Susan & Mike never together? What's wrong in letting them be happy and unified for a change, the way Lynette & Tom are?

I think we have another season of "trying to get Susan & Mike to hook up" again :guilty: I agree....let 'em live HAPPY for a freakin' change! I can't believe they just 'gave up and got divorced'....especially after everything they've been thru....not their style :confused3 BUT....if Edie's DH IS after Susan and/or Mike...it's a reason to 'drive' them together again ;)

No he is not....seems she feels that the accident was her fault and he could not take her self guilt anymore and it tore there marriage apart.

I noticed Susan didn't run the stop sign (that was knocked over) that caused the accident...the dead lady did. Don't know why/how she let herself feel guilty for it? Besides, her feeling guilty and her marriage breaking up, doesn't bring them back....guess that's why she feels she doesn't 'deserve' happiness?

I also don't believe that the child that plays her dd is only 4 years old IRL. And I want to know how Gabby managed to have a couple of kids so quickly when she was told she couldn't even have kids after her fall down the stairs.

I think we all agree....she's older than 4.5. Wonder how the poor kid feels knowing she's playing this role and her weight is a factor for it? Kind of a shame :sad2: Hope it doesn't mentally scar her.

I thought the same thing....Gabs couldn't have kids after the whole 'falling down the stairs thing'.....guess Marc thot we forgot about that too!

I think Edie's new husband could be the husband of the woman who was killed in the accident and he wants revenge.

i thot the same thing....i think we're right ;)

On the daytime soaps they age those kids overnight - guess they don't do that for the primtimes. :)

a little OT....but when i was on bedrest w/ Bubba, not much else to do but watch soaps (for a month!) I noticed one character pregnant on OLTL at the same time. Knowing soaps do this, I wanted to keep track of when she had her kid, and when I had mine. I had my son at least 2 months before the character on the soap did....now Bubba will be 10 in January, soap kid is in high school :sad2: ...talk about growing up too fast...

I'm sure there will be a storyline with Danielle taking her baby back.

I don't think so...I think it explains where the baby is and how Bree (& Andrew) have all this time for a business, writing a book, etc... Altho...feel kinda bad for Bree...no daughter or grandson....and, with Andrew gay, unless he adopts, no grandkids (in her life) at all.

I did wonder where Lynette's other kids are too, although I'm sure they'll turn in juvenille detention or someplace similiar!!! :rotfl:

Penny....they didn't mention Penny....Kayla was sent to live w/ foster parents....altho, probably 18 by now...wouldn't surprise me if they brought her back....but, probably won't...because her story was all about "Tom's secret".... done and over with now....

I am wondering if this season will just mostly be remembering the last 5 years that has gone by....

hope not...what's the point of fast forwarding 5 yrs then? :confused3 Explaining what has happened will come in "handy" for when they need to explain something....like the accident.

Seems like I am in the minority, but I kinda liked last night's show. There are a few storylines I am not so crazy over, but it brings a whole new life to the show. :thumbsup2 I can't wait to see how it plays out!

I don't think the child actress playing the old daughter of Gabbie is 4 either but I think that's a good thing and done on purpose by the producers. I think they hired an older child on purpose to get her to look older/chubbier when playing an overweight 4 year old and probably due to the material/storyline she has to do.

So far, I'm liking it but wish Susan was still with Mike.

The actress playing Juanita is 6 years old, so is the little boy who is playing Susan's son.

I liked the new show, but it bugged me that they were trying to pass off that Juanita as 4. She looks much older, but she also talks much older. Same for Lynette's kids, they are too old too, I figured they were about 9 before, now they are 16 but look 18.

I really like the way they explained the Mike and Susan thing. Way better than killing him or having one of them cheat or something. I would have liked for them to stay together, but since they didn't the story they came up with was good.

I thought I read in the new season spoilers that one of the "kids" was killed in an accident during the 5 years. That may be why we haven't seen Tom and Lynette's daughters, or Susan's daughter. Of the three, I would say the one most likely would have to be Tom/Lynette's younger daughter - she should be 12 or 13 - we should have at least seen her last night.

Or was the "killed in an accident" just a teaser and it was referencing the accident Susan and Mike were in. :confused3

I didn't think about Edie's husband being related to the accident people! That is a definite possibility!

I thought it was hilarious that Edie was the one to call Gabrielle out on her appearance!

I'm one who also isn't sure if I like the whole five years in the future thing. Tonights episode was ok. The very end where the new guy says "only one person should be afraid of the anger' does have me really wondering who it is.

Not sure I like the 5 year thing either.:confused3 They could have picked up after one or 2, now they have too much Background to catch up on....where is Pennie? and the other 4 or 5 kids it seemed that Lynette had running around? Wasn;t the twins the twins from the past, but ALL GROWN UP NOW! WOW!

Really hope someone posts a episode recap. I only saw the first half hour. Company came, so set my DVR. They left, went to watch the end, and saw that I taped the wrong channel!
Ahhhhhh!!!!

What about Mike? Is he not dead?
You should be able to go to ABC.com and watch it.

I figured Tom and Lynette's oldest son (Parker) must be in college now. Although I think he was only about 11 last season. I don't understand why Penny wasn't around though.

Someone mentioned that Kayla was sent to live with foster parents. I think, but I'm not sure, that she went to live with her grandparents. Not sure if they were Tom's parents or Kayla's mother's.

Parker is the oldest son...Preston and Porter are the twins.

Susan and Kathryn's daughters were explained in the finale... I think 1 went to college, another is overseas....married or in school...or both?? :confused3

I do know they aren't returning...they wanted the little kids to grow up, and the teens to be gone...after all..it is 5 yrs later.... the teen kids would be young adults now.

I'm thinking that not only is Edie's husband the widower of the people killed in the accident, but that the mom ran the stop sign because she was speeding to get away from her husband, who may have been abusing her or her child. We may find he has a whole history of mental problems and abuse. We may find he is a real nut case with a whole string of abusive relationships.

I think he will go after Susan, and Mike will be forced to kill him, which will bring Mike & Susan back together.

I loved the episode. It was refreshing after that lame 2 hour Grey's Anatomy premiere! :)

I couldn't figure out- is Gabi pregnant again? She looked pretty round throughout most of the show, but not when she was looking at herself in the mirror and vacuuming at the end. I'm sure she'll get herself back to glamorous in the next couple episodes. She didn't actually look fat to me, just wearing ugly clothing and no makeup. But hey, I'm a mom too so I know how that transition goes. :lmao:

I also remember Kayla going to live with grandparents. I think it was the mom's parents.

Good theories on Edie's husband. I think it will definitely have something to do with Susan and Mike.

And what a you-know-what Bree is.

Interesting article in Sunday's (9/28) Orange County Register. :goodvibes

Desperate Housewives’ returns tonight, with everybody five years older.
By NEAL JUSTIN
Orange County Register

The Wisteria Lane neighborhood has spent the past four years battling cancer, tornadoes, blindness, infidelity and attempted murder. Now the residents face the most daunting challenge of their suburban lives: aging.
“Desperate Housewives” opens its new season tonight by fast-forwarding the action five years, as bold and risky a move as adding Keith Olbermann as an “American Idol” judge or turning “Law & Order” into a campy musical.

After a preview of the first two episodes, it appears the gamble has paid off.

Creator Marc Cherry has used the leap into the future to turn back the clock and recapture the tone of the prime-time soap opera’s Emmy-nominated inaugural season, where sniping and sarcasm were more powerful and destructive than any windstorm.

“It was a chance for us to reset,” said Cherry, whose show has largely been overlooked at awards ceremonies since that heralded rookie year. “Soaps tend to build up, and I wanted to get back to where we were that first season when it was just the small and relatable problems of some ordinary women.”

Cherry said he was partly inspired by the time-travel twist employed by another ABC series, “Lost.”

“I was initially going to do an eight-year jump, but then when someone ex- plained to me how the actresses would react to the idea that they were eight years older, I thought, ‘Maybe five. Maybe I can get away with five.’ ”

The results are fresh and funny: Lynette’s (Felicity Huffman) rambunctious kids are now borderline delinquents. Bree (Marcia Cross) has become a wildly successful, wildly insecure TV personality. Edie (Nicollette Sheridan) has married a motivational speaker. Susan (Teri Hatcher) has been transformed into a love-’em-and-leave-’em free spirit. Gabby (Eva Longoria Parker) now has two children, forcing her to trade in window-shopping for window-washing.

“Teri and I were saying that we’ve kind of switched roles because she’s glamorous now and I’m frumpy,” said Parker, whose use of stomach and buttock pads on set have triggered rumors that she’s either pregnant or addicted to cremefilled doughnuts. “I love it, because I come into hair and makeup now and it’s like 10 minutes instead of two hours.”

In serving up new story lines, Cherry also has given his cast new challenges – something rarely provided to actors on network TV, which is always wary of messing with a successful formula.

“It’s given all of us an opportunity to be something we haven’t been,” said Hatcher, whose character was dangerously close to running out of ways to whine. “For Susan, it’s been years of ‘Please love me, please love me, please love me,’ and now, for reasons that will be revealed this season, she’s more closed off to love and not so needy of it. It’s empowering and exciting to play different levels and different parts of your personality and have legitimate reasons why each character is in a new place.”

What hasn’t changed are the witty zingers, which were always the series’ strength, but too often buried under heavy-handed story lines and dramatic twists that had more in common with “The Twilight Zone” than a frothy comedy.

The season kicks off with one perfect punch line after another, whether it’s an icy saleswoman suggesting that Gabby’s overweight daughter might want to shop in the costume department where they sell a Mrs. Shrek outfit, or the response to Edie’s news that she now has a husband.
“Really?” Susan quips. “Whose?”

There’s also a series of delightful vignettes, including Lynette’s accidental “email affair” with one of her sons (don’t worry, it’s more touching than icky); Bree being forced to produce a tricky dessert that she boasted of creating, and Gabby’s attempt to sneak into a high-end party out of fear that her social life is disintegrating into a future of “flip-flops and keggers.”

“What I love about my gals is that, for all the glamour, they’re all actresses first,” Cherry said. “I have friends who work on other TV shows who constantly marvel at what my gals allow me to do and how ridiculously silly I make them and how wickedly driven I can make the characters. They really go with me.”

The ride can’t go on forever. Cherry says he plans to end the series at the conclusion of the seventh season – and don’t expect him to hand the reins to anyone else.

“I love working with these gals, but the idea of letting anyone else take the show from me makes me sick to my stomach,” he said. “I would rather just end it as my thing. We’re going to get out while people still like us.”

Ooo yeah, that is REALLY good! You guys are so smart! :goodvibes None of that ever crossed my mind.

I read an article with Gabby where she said she HATED wearing the fat suit for this season. She couldn't wait to take if off after taping.

Good theory about the wife & child that died.
But when I first saw him, my gaydar went off. I thought maybe one of the gay guys had a past relationship with him.

OR

Remember the pediphile episode with the guy whose sister was in a wheel chair. He left with questionable comment to Lynette.

Ok so where are Lynette's OTHER kids?
Probably in juvenile hall.

Like, I really doubt that Gabby would have an overweight child like that and that she'd wait that long to finally try to get it under control. We're talking about an ex-model.

I have a lot of unresolved questions. I am sure some of them will be answered as the season progresses but still.

I kept telling dh that there is no way that Gabby's kids would be that overweight. I also don't believe that the child that plays her dd is only 4 years old IRL. And I want to know how Gabby managed to have a couple of kids so quickly when she was told she couldn't even have kids after her fall down the stairs.

Oh, and who is the actor that is playing Edie's dh? I know him but can't place him. What other show have I seen him?
Also, their house was very classy looking and now it's covered in dark brown carpet and an ugly entertainment center, etc. The decor has completely changed - I don't think she would have made that type of change. Not very Gabby at all.

In all fairness and respect :goodvibes ....I don't see how so many of you couldn't see that coming from a mile away.

Which is why I hope that Edie's husband isn't going to be the widow. TOO EASY. TOO PREDICTABLE.

Mr. Cherry better amp it up because I thought the season opener was about a 4 out of 10

Nope, I really didn't. It will be interesting to see where it goes.

I was just at my second most frequented site, televisionwithoutpity and over there they are saying that Edie's hubby is McClosky's not so dead son.

Makes sense because Mrs. McClosky had a bigger presence last night.

Time will tell.

That could also mean there is more to the dead husband in the freezer than was originally said.
