****Official December 2014 Check-In! ****

Yowza! :rotfl2:How are you navigating that many? We once had 14 and basically planned to meet up for meals. We ended up spending most of our time together anyway but I warned them beforehand that I had a plan. ;) Democracy wasn't an option. :rotfl: They ended up loving not having to think about anything. :thumbsup2

We'll have lower numbers for most of the week, but our last park day is my birthday. I've never been in the parks on my birthday, so I put the word out that we're having dinner at Carthay and watching WOC if anyone wanted to join.

That turned into 10 people joining my DD and I for dinner and the show, and a handful of other people spending different parts of the week with us. After I make all of the dining ressies, I'll send everyone our schedule and let them know they are welcome to join us at any point. I think this is better than trying to coordinate every detail for everyone. Hopefully it'll work!

Normally we don't share rooms since I have a lot of medical issues that keep me up at night. Most people will have their own rooms, but this time we're sharing with a number of people (though not all at the same time). I really confused the reservation CM trying to explain who would be in the room each night!

Here's what that looks like:

Night 1 (offsite): Me, DD, and Friend 1
Night 2 (PPH): Me, DD, and Friend 1
Night 3 (PPH): Me and DD
Night 4 (PPH): Me and DD
Night 5 (PPH): Me, DD, and Friend 2
Night 6 (PPH): Me, DD, Friend 2, and Friend 3

At this point it's controlled chaos. I've worked at communicating that I'm NOT going to be a tour guide the whole week. Instead, I'm letting them know where we'll be if they'd like to spend time with us. Thankfully my friends are awesome and will likely go along with whatever crazy antics I devise. :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

I would love more info here too... I am avoiding the super thread like the plague because all the pictures kind of ruin the surprise for me. Our trip is the family Christmas gift and being the one to do all the planning already ruins a little magic so i really don't want to see anything before we get there. My first Christmas trip to disney in over a decade so I don't want to lose what I imagine or get my hopes up to see something that may not be there this year. I keep hoping other threads will start with details that won't contain pictures.

If anyone (not just sherry) has details of things they want to be sure and do during the Christmas season at Disney please post them here so I can share in the excitement too.

***Edit: I don't mind the idea of the super thread with pictures because for those who visit regularly it is nice to share experiences and all those fab photos. But for right now I'm looking at our trip like a wrapped gift. The anticipation of opening it is part of the fun. :)

AmberStar --

You certainly don't have to join in the Superthread at all (I can totally understand not wanting to see photos and spoil the surprise!:)), although that thread was created specifically for discussion about news and details of the holidays (to cut down on the number of other pop-up threads that can clutter up the board), whereas the Check-In threads are more for organizing meet-ups. I will usually not be coming to this thread or going to any other thread to post information that I learn, or details of the season (there's just not enough time in the day) -- at least not at first. For example, when the Disneyland News holiday press release came out a couple of days ago, I didn't post it here or anywhere else other than the Superthread. I'm posting what I know and what I learn in the thread that I have devoted the last 4 years to, which has a proven track record of helping people plan and learn about what to do on their trips!

But, by all means, steer clear of the Superthread if you don't want to see any photos at all, because we will be running the Theme Week Countdown and Disney Gift Card giveaway through November 10th (the last theme goes up on 11/3 -- and anyone can join in on that theme, not just DLR visitors). Immediately after that, I and other thread participants will be reporting back with photos and info from the new holiday season. The thread goes for long stretches of time without any photos, but when the Theme Week Countdown/gift card contest is going on, there will be photos along with lots of information. The good thing about the photos is that they help people know what not to miss (hidden gems, overlooked treasures, interesting details, etc.) -- because a lot of people will miss things on their first trips, and they may not have a chance to get back to DLR again for a while.

Just so that no one thinks that the Theme Week Countdown is just for regulars -- the entire Countdown/photo 'contest' has been open to anyone who has visited DLR for the holidays, whether they have gone one time or 20 times. They do not have to be regulars at all. One person who has been participating hasn't been there for the holidays since 2005. The final theme week is one that WDW vets can participate in, or anyone with any kind of non-Disney holiday photo. I've also been running a separate challenge/gift card giveaway for any of our non-photo contributors, or people who have not yet experienced DLR during the season, so everyone can participate in some way. The Superthread itself -- whether the Countdown is going on or not -- is for anyone who wants to discuss the holiday season, learn about it, ask questions, keep up with what's going on so they can plan future trips, etc. Everyone is welcome.

ETA: I am not sure if you ever saw it (the pages may have turned quickly), but back in May I did give you just a few details of things to look for and highlights of the season in this post (no photos).

We just booked last week for December 11-16th (in the parks starting on the 12th). It's my dh and I, our 3 kiddos (ds9, ds7, and dd5) AND we're bringing our 2 nieces for their first trip to Disneyland ever! They are 7 and 10. We're staying at the Desert Inn and Suites (2 rooms at the DLH was just too much for our budget, though it's our favorite!)

It's so fun to take kids for their first trip! Have a fantastic time!

We're going to be there from 12/25-12/30 staying at Camelot Inn & Suites. Plan to go to the parks 12/26-12/29. And I'm guessing we'll be doing rope drop each day for DCA for RSR.

Myself, Husband, and Son will be there 12/15 - 12/20. We are staying at AofA!!:santa::cool1:

If you're talking about Art of Animation, you're in the wrong neighborhood. This is the DLR board. :)

Have a great trip though. We enjoyed our stay there in 2012.

I believe this is WDW, not Disneyland.

I am joining the holiday crowd - 12/24 to 12/26 staying at GCH :yay:

I should add this is the start of a little cross-country Disney adventure. This stay at DL, then a week at WDW in Jan and then back to DL in mid-Jan!

How fun!! We're hoping to do the cross country thing in 2016. I'll look forward to your trip report!

We are going Dec 10-12th,staying at BW Anaheim Inn. It will be our daughter's first trip and we are celebrating our 8th anniversary :lovestruc

45 days until I leave for my magical Birthday/Holiday trip! I am taking my 8 year old niece and we can't wait!!! We will be there during the CP, but I have been before during the CP and am not worried about crowds, we will just avoid Main Street. We are actually leaving the park at about 6 for dinner and shopping in DTD then we will come back for fireworks. We're going to use the Monorail so that we can avoid Main Street altogether!!!

We will be making our first visit to DLR December 7-10th staying at the Best Western Stovall's.

That's what we did in '12 when they had the 20 nights of CP. The crowds didn't really bother us because we relied heavily on the monorail.

I love this time before trips. Time seems to fly by!

We finally decided on which hotel - DLH!!!! I can't wait, just a little over 2 months.

YAY! I'll update your info now. :thumbsup2

We will be making our first visit to DLR December 7-10th staying at the Best Western Stovall's.

How exciting! Have a fantastic time!
