Official D23 Expo schedule thread; August 19-21, Anaheim (Updated 8/17, post #179)

Yes! Those are exactly the type of panel that I was waiting for! Now to practice sitting in line for hours at a time, I'm sure Pixar draws huge numbers.

wow..OK...why didn't I notice Pixar wasn't represented yet. I will definately have to adjust my schedule. I'm a huge Pixar fan and would put their stuff in higher priority than other things..sheesh.. :)

For those of us who are "pod challenged", could someone paraphrase what the interview said?

I hope we have a final schedule soon I fly out on the 15 and would like to have an idea of what`s going on before I arrive.

[snip]...Specifically, a lot of panels by Pixar are mentioned including Brave and Monsters University. Steven Clark said the "entire Pixar brain trust" will be at the Expo. ...[snip]

Just a word of warning: these are the kinds of panels that had a "no phone/no camera" policy at the last Expo. Any presentation with unreleased video is likely to have a similar rule, as they want to avoid it going viral prior to the movie's release. Still, I would rather surrender my electronics than be limited to seeing only already released previews. -- Suzanne

How do they handle this? I want to have my iPhone at the Expo. Do you literally check them in before certain sessions and get them back after?

Last time when they took our electronics at the arena they literally made us put our cell phones and cameras in plastic bags and gave us a numbered ticket that was associated with our bag. They had several tables right outside the arena with plastic tubs with all the electronics. It wasn't bad checking in the electronics but it was a mad house getting them afterwards. Hopefully it will be somewhat better this year. :thumbsup2

Essentially Steven just mentioned that Pixar will be there and since there are no specific Pixar things listed, they must be coming. He also shared that three items of the Archives..the Black Pearl, Walt's Limo and the Van from Lost will be on the show floor (so I'm hoping that means cameras allowed for those).
In the Q&A Jeffrey did with Mice Agehe said camera restrictons are currently only in place for the studios presentation and Archives, but he also said if others are added we'll know in plenty of time and that there will be signage to warn of it. I really didn't mind checking/picking up unless I was in a mad hurry..hopefully this time that won't be so much of a factor. I didn't get that many pictures last time since I pretty much left my camera behind so as not to have the hassle of checking..that was a mistake.
Oh..I had said I'd seen the schedule would be on their Facebook page the 14th..that was wrong..it said the 12th instead.

I need help with how to approach the Expo! I did not go in 2009 and am trying to figure out what I am in for. I have been reading most of the posts in the Expo threads here on DIS DLR and listened to the Steve Clark interview as well as other podcasts I have found. I have reviewed the schedule so far and have prioritized some must sees.

I have a basic ticket so no special access for me. :sad1:

So on to my questions! :)

1. How early do the doors open? The first event on the schedule says 9AM.

2. Do people queue up before that? If so, where? At the street entrance on Katella?

3. In general how early can one queue for presentations? I have a couple high priority presentations each day and I am going to queue as early as possible for those.

4. Is it hard to get into the main Arena presentations?

5. Is there any way to know the capacity vs. demand on presentations so you know to get there extra early?

6. What kind of food is permitted to be carried in? I heard the food options are poor once you are inside the convention center.

I'm going over the D23 Expo schedule and have a slight concern over the venue for the Radiator Springs Reality Presentation. I really feel its to small a venue to be hosting such a Presentation that also promises an apperance from John Lasseter himself. I feel D23 are once again failing to understand its fans and the demand for such a Presentation. I seem to remember at the last Expo a mistake being made in regards to not meeting the demand for Steve Davison's World of Colour Presentation. And several hundreds of fans being turn away. D23 really should consider moving this particular presentation to the Arena.

I am at present already making plans to get in line first thing in the morning to see this Presentation. And I'm fairly disapointed since its likely I'm going to miss the Marvel Presentation inside the Arena. But Radiator Springs Reality is something I do not want to miss and will wait it out. And I feel unfortunately I will not be the only person.

Hmmm, I remembered more specifics than that. I thought he specifically mentioned a Monsters University panel.

That is one of my must do's. It is at 1:30 and I think I will go there first thing too. Is it really necessary to wait 4+ hours for things like this?

Possibly I really don't know. But to save disapointment I would recomend getting in line soon as you can. If Disney is determined to host Radiator Springs Reality inside the 750 seat Stage 23. I really hope D23 will re consider the concerns I have over this particular Event. Because Cars Land is something that the local audience will connect with and John Lasseter is someone a lot of people look up too.

If there are multiple people can we get in line and one go look around at expo stuff and then swtich back and forth etc.

While things may be completely different this year, at the prior Expo, we were able to get into every presentation we wanted to see except one. We missed getting into the Muppet presentation by only about 20 or 30 people. We left the Arena half an hour prior, had to pick up our phones, stopped at the bathroom and then still just missed getting in. We were successful getting in WoC, Princess & the Frog and Afternoon with Imagineers, and everything in the Arena. Those who want only the best seats will obviously need to line up earlier.

My DH and I always got in line together, but then one of us might leave to get lunch or use the facilities. We plan to see the Show Floor early or late and otherwise move from one presentation to the line for the next.

Last time, the only line to get into the Expo was filled with those looking to buy limited merchandise. For the rest of us, we walked right in after that group entered. This year, however, there are presentations starting either when the Expo show floor opens (9am) or shortly thereafter (9:30am). It's not clear whether there will be a line outside for those or whether admission to the building, but not the show floor, will be prior to 9 am.

I have no interest in Marvel and will happily skip that presentation to begin lining up for Cars around 9AM. We should also know by Sunday how they are handling the lines. Whether or not they queue up downstairs or not. There are only a handful of presentations I want to see as of yet so I should have plenty of time to see the Expo floor.

We will probably know how necessary it is after the first day.

By the second day of the Expo they came around and passed out cards to people waiting in line. Only those present got the cards and you had to have a card to get in the room. By the last day they were queuing able bodied people on the show floor level and walking them up just prior to the start of the presentation. Handicapped persons queued up directly at the door. Perhaps this is how they will handle admittance for Sorcerers, they will enter with handicapped as the other attendees are being led upstairs. There have been enough events since the last Expo that they know we are crazy enough to eat lunch in line and give up all of our personal time for good seats at our choice presentations.
