Official closing date for Rainforest Cafe?

WHAT!!! I didn’t hear anything about this. My family LOVES this place. We have always had good food and service. For years it has been our tradition to go to the RFC the first night of our Disneyland trip. We have another trip coming up in May and I’ve been telling my step daughter all about it. She’s never been and is super excited. I’d be so bummed if it closed before we go.

I have my $25 rewards that I'll be using this month at the one in DTD so will see if it has improved. It's been a long time since I've been - and not this location. I seem to recall there being a coupon for a free kid's meal or chef's appetizer with purchase of adult appetizer. I hope I can use that with my rewards!

I just read elsewhere that they won't be closing until July/August because the hotel construction plans were behind schedule. This is an unsubstantiated rumour from a random poster so take it for what it's worth.

One of the bands that plays in Dowtown Disney on the stage in between the AMC, ESPN Zone, and RFC is playing the last show on that stage on May 26, so I’m going to guess construction will begin not long after that.

A bit OT, but this is one of the reasons why we have never been to Disneyland. Every time we've planned a trip, they drop refurbs or closures last minute. This rumor got out so we know it's happening, but typical, Disney isn't saying anything about it. It's like 3 months away. At WDW, they give you plenty of advance notice so you can plan around things. Disneyland clearly doesn't care about the tourist, only the locals.

The best time to visit Disneyland for the least amount of closures or refurbs is usually in July. This hotel was announced last fall with a construction start date of summer 2018 so late May / beginning of June does fit in with what Disney considers summer.

To be fair, this was announced months ago, as were most the current and upcoming closures. “Doesn’t care about the tourist” is a pretty broad statement...

It was announced months ago, but again, no dates have been given.

I have experienced plenty of "last minute" refurbs at WDW. I do not have data that says DLR or WDW handles this better or worse than the other.

DLR is much more predictable of when refurbs happen. If "every time you've planned a trip they drop refurbs...at the last minute" then I would say every time you have planned a trip you have chosen a bad time to visit. I rarely encounter refurbs at DLR as I choose to visit during times of year when refurbs rarely happen. These times of year are spoken of around here clearly and often. Have you ever asked? For example, see "Choosing When To Visit DLR: Summary of High and Low Season and When Each Happens" www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p=36509602. It really is not that hard.

DLR is not WDW. There are things that are better at DLR and things that are better at WDW. DLR has to deal with the City of Anaheim. This has many ramifications including access to water and power where they depend on the city and the utility. WDW does not have such issues because of the land Disney owns in Florida and they have their own municipality and power plants.

Good points, and obviously I'm much more used to WDW and their schedule. To be fair, it was 2 trips we had planned. Both in the summer. One year it was the Matterhorn alone. And 2017 (or maybe 16), it was Matterhorn again, the castle was closed, and 2 other attractions that I can't recall but knew I wanted to see.

To me, it just seems as though WDW is run with more courtesy, for lack of a better word. And maybe that is because they have no one to answer to.

I really hope they're still open during our July trip. It's my daughter's favorite restaurant and we were hoping for one last visit.

This is really my point. Even the Official Guide lists it as one of the 5 best restaurants for families. It's obviously a very popular spot. Why they wouldn't let people know the closing date (unless they don't know, which I just don't buy) makes zero sense to me.

Looks like they are closing their doors permanently, very sad.

Wonder if someone else will come in and take over at least the Orlando locations so they are not abandoned?
