Official Castaway Cay 5K Thread

I will be very disappointed if they don't have shirts to buy for it. It will be my first 5k and something to be proud of for me.

Question- probably a dumb one, but is there wifi on the island or will my iPhone be able to use my gps info at all with the running app I use to track distance: Map My Run on the ship when running on deck 4 or when completing 5k? I wasn't planning to use cellular while on vacation (airplane mode) but will use my phone for music and camera.

There is no Wifi on the island. In fact, throughout the whole trip, we couldn't connect to the Wifi even aboard the Wonder. I was ready to pay for whatever price they charged but it wasn't working the whole 5 days.
I tried to use MapMyRun app on my iPhone but it couldn't find my location so it didn't work. Was kinda bummed.

Thanks Jodi - I was really hoping it would show me distance run....since I will need that motivation to keep going especially with the humidity and heat. I guess whether I run the entire thing or walk part of it....I've burned calories to offset my increased food intake:)

I also used both C25K app and MapMyRun app on my iPhone 4s. The GPS mapping on MapMyRun couldn't locate where I was so it didn't work. :(

Just as several others have mentioned, it is hot and humid out there even at 9am.

I ran the 5k last Friday, having come from not running consistently that long since high school LOL. It was definitely brutal, and so was my time hahaha... I spent way to much time by the water coolers. And you know you're out of shape when you older brother in his 40s [by 10 years] is lightly jogging and still passing you up...! Then again, he's the same brother who ran Bay to Breakers years ago.

Nevertheless, stay hydrated out there! There are plenty of water stops so don't feel compelled to pass them up.

My parents walked the thing and were the last ones walking to the finish line, while being escorted by a couple crew members who had to collect them as they went off course at some point.

I've read conflicting reports of kids' clubs on this day. Those of you who've done it recently on the Dream, have you left your kids on the ship or is Scuttle's Cove open?

After I'm done, I'd like to just collect the kids and hit the beach rather than go all the way back to the ship.

I just did the 5K in February and they stop at Scuttle's Cove so people can drop off their kids.

I just ran the castaway cay 5k Saturday. It was humid but glad I did it. Yes you can go at your own pace, sadly several people didn't do the second lap of the bike loop so cut about a mile off their trip :(. There was water in coolers several places along the route. We met in a lounge at 8:15 and walked off as a group at 8:40 ish. We walked a mile to the start. The cast member explained the route and it was clearly marked. We were given plastic Mickey metals but were told we may be the last group to get them and the shirts for sale $22, there was no back stock, I'm guessing they are changing the logo or something. Great fun and organized with 2 cast members running the show. Will do it again next time! Very humid hydrate the night before and have a banana or something before you go. Again. Very warm and humid... And I'm from florida!!

Anyone run since this date? Do they have shirts and medals?

I think it's great that everybody of all abilities get out and run (or walk) ... but I'm looking to run it, and run it quick. Are there others out there looking for a bit of friendly competition?

I'll be in the middle of a of half marathon training cycle when we go on our cruise in a week. I'll be trying to push myself a bit or maybe thinking about going around twice to make a longer run and avoid more treadmill time on the ship later.

Remember, it's going to be hot there. Hot. Doesn't feel like that even when it gets hot in our areas hot. Hot. You might wish to move your training around a bit just in case the heat starts to mess you up.

Our cruise in October is a double dip to CC, will they do the 5K on both days?

I believe that's what I've read! 10/23?

Woohoo! You can do it. I am still out of shape and working at it too. I figure I'll be walking a bit of the CC5K next week, but it will be my first 5K and I'm so excited that my first one will be at Disney!

Possibly no medals or t-shirts either? :( DH & I are planning on doing the 5k in just under two weeks. I hope they have something for us. While I'm not all about a plastic Mickey medal, we're taking time out from our CC day to sweat our socks off in the heat & humidity. It would be nice to be able to have some sort of keepsake besides the sweaty bib number. :confused3

I don't remember if you're doing Couch 2 5K, but whatever plan you're using, just remember: "running" doesn't have to be fast, just faster than walking! :) When I did C25K, I kept whining to friends that I couldn't run now that it was longer periods, and one of them asked "How fast are you running?" (I was using a treadmill, which I still like using as it keeps me honest about pace and not cheating myself on run intervals) and I said "Like 5.5 or so?" to which they replied "You don't have to go that fast. Even 4.8 if you are walking at 4 works while you're building."

I'm still not fast. But I get out there and do it.

I'll be running Saturday (not tomorrow). Once I'm home I'll update if no one else has.

We'll be boarding the ship next Saturday, so I'll miss your post before we go, but thanks for offering to update (of course still update for everyone else!)

Although perhaps there might be few in these forums who will respond to your challenge, I'm positive you'll meet a few to compete with the day of ;)

The crew member had to yell at everyone at the front of the line "THIS IS NOT A RACE!"
But it wasn't that that kept me from logging an abysmal time for my age and expected fitness-level...LOL!
