i love this thread. when it is time for my order, i will know exactly what to do, and i hope it will work. if it were not for this thread i would not know how to get the cake i want.

thanks to every one who posts here.:thumbsup2

So for some reason :rotfl: I'm now OBSESSED with finding the perfect theme for a best friends cake. Some one mentioned Toy Story, which is great, I have also been thinking of a Thumper/Bambi or Fox and Hound.......I am sitting here just trying to think of more "girly" bff's from Disney! Any suggestions? I think the Thumper and Bambi would be cute....like on the ice with Thumper helping Bambi up.......not sure here! Any other girly suggestions?

Ok I just went back and read through the first page and then the Cake Gallery thread. I think I will check with CSRs In Room Dining and then we will probably just go to BW Bakery when we get in on monday. That way they would ahve 48 hrs notice. Then we will take it back ourselves and save the delivery fee :O)

Does anyone know if we did see something we like on monday, that BW would make a fresh one for Wednesday? For ex on the cake gallery there was a princess cake with 4 princess figures on top. Would they be able to make that for me as long as I gave a 48 hr notice?

Hi all, First cake post here. Started to read the thread as a lark... I am now hooked and am going to order a cake for my 9 day trip in November. This is just a girls week-out trip although it's also my b-day so what the heck!!

Will they make something that is an angel food cake with custard and strawberries in a layer or two covered in whipped cream???? Years ago my mom used to do this and boy was it good. I understand from the first page that I would need to call the central phone line with my order.

Next question.. would you do that for the dinner at Boma's or Citricos? I guess what I'm asking is where the best cake would likely come from. And which would be more fun???
As an alternative, the yellow cake with custard and strawberries with buttercream and Piglet on top would also do nicely. ( Yeah... I'm not picky!!! I'm just hooked. :lmao: )
Thanks everyone for that!!!:thumbsup2

Liz... 82 days to go until ASMu
( Yeah I can't figure out how to get a countdown thingy..) oh well!

If you really want the angel food cake, I would suggest getting it from Publix (grocery) and brining it to Boma. They will let you bring in an outside cake but 'say' they can't store it for you (you'd need to bring it right in to your table). They will give you the knife and plates to serve yourself.

If you con't have a car, or want a more elaborate cake, go with a Disney cake at Citrico's ordered from the Grand Floridian. You will not be able to get an angel food cake (I don't think) but you can get a white cake with strawberries.

(I'm actually doing both of these things on my trip in two weeks)

Glad I could help! I hope you guys have a great time! :thumbsup2 I ordered the Mickey head cake for my daughter as a special congratulations for making the cheerleading squad this year. I cant wait to see it! Just 13 more days.:banana:

I'm getting the Tink one with chocolate strawberries added in at The Wave. Since both are at the Contemporary I would think so. They said that there is a lday that sits and hand paints the statues. How cool is that?! I do know the Tink one wouldn't fit on the 6in cake. I had to up it to the 8 in.

Last week I ordered a hand painted Tinkerbell statue on a 6" cake for our upcoming birthday dinner at 1900 PF :confused3

Has anyone ordered a cake to the Caribbean Beach hotel?
I want a custom cake for my DD 3rd Birthday in Oct 09 and I don't know if I should order one to there or try to get one from Boardwalk Bakery to pick up or try to get one with a meal at GF.
I am overwelmed so please help if you can?
:confused3

We just got back from WDW & the Chocolate slipper was perfect for DD at Narcossee. princess:

The entire time we were there, we did not see 1 cake being delivered to any table. With all the talk on this thread you would think everyone does it! We were looking forward to seeing some fun cakes during our stay b/c SO many people were celebrating their b-days, but sadly we didn't see any fun cakes, not even the cute ones for kids in the chests.

hi

also if I see one I like on this thread can I fax the personn the pictures or do they only go with you describing what you want ?
any pics you can show me ?getting excited about anniversary trip :)
thanks

:cutie: Nah, BeattyFamily is the real expert! I'm just kinda OCD when it comes to cake... :rotfl:

From everything I've heard, you don't get any kind of confirmation number for your cake - which may be why you occasionally hear about mix-ups where the cake never shows up at the restaurant. It sounds like they just take down your order, and then when you get to the restaurant you remind the person at the podium and/or your server that you have a cake waiting for you.

BUT, I am not an expert on this because I haven't had one delivered to a restaurant yet - so maybe others will come along and share their experiences. :thumbsup2

Edited to add:... others like ibouncetoo! :teeth:
oh ! yes you are an expert ( I've read many post you helped people with ) I mean ..
this being said I wonder are we allowed to have the cake on the table the whole dinner I mean I don't mind looking at the cake the whole dinner ( being what we pay for;)) like that I can take pictures all I want ..
Or is it a policy of the restaurants to only bring the cake when desserts is ready to be served ??
thanks again

When I ordered out cake, Pat at the GF told me that I should ask for it when we check in for our dinner. She suggested using the cake as a "centerpiece" at our table so that we could take the time to enjoy it instead of just bringing it out at the end and cutting it up right away.

No. You can get a custom cake. Whomever is putting out this false information needs to stop. No oneon property is using the frozen Sarah Lee cakes any longer. Even of they were they are only used when you walk up to the podium otherwise all cakes are made fresh. I hope this helps.

Cakemanbri- I called the cake hotline, and pushed the prompts for CP... I got a woman named Sandy who was NO HELP! She told me the only cake that I could get at CP, would be the standard celebrate today cake for 21 dollars, and my only options for that would be to leave it the way it comes with the mickey marzipan disc or remove the disc and they could write a name...
I told her that I had SEEN custom cakes being made at this location, and she snapped at me and told me that disney does not have a website with cakes on it.. I tried to explain disboards, but she really didn't want to hear it.. My dinner ressie is 3 weeks away, and I'd really like to do a (small) custom cake for my mom.. do you think I should call back and hope I get someone else on the line?:scared1:

This is a wonderful idea!! :goodvibes I am getting so excited. I will be ordering mine next week.

Grace&PhillipsMom answered your question about using the cake as a centerpiece (which I think is a great idea because, yeah, if you're paying for a fancy cake, you wanna have time to LOOK at it!)

In theory, you are supposed to call the Cake Hotline for restaurants, but I think half the time they transfer you to Private Dining anyway. CakeManBri has been telling people to call Private Dining at the Contemporary for California Grill (and any other restaurants at the Contemporary), so try that instead.

I believe someone posted the direct line one page back on this thread, but you can always just call the main Contemporary number and ask to be transferred: 407-824-1000
:thumbsup2

Thanks ibounce too. I will go with the yellow cake with custard and strawberries with frosting. Any way to get a good cream cheese base frosting instead of crisco based??? I know...LOL getting picky here .
Which number should I call to order this? I've gone through about a quarter of this thread and admit to bailing out for now:rolleyes:. I'lll get to the rest because it is fun.
So along with the number, I'm assumng to ask for "Pat" at the GF?? And this is for NOV 11th. How far in advance should I do this??

Thanks all so much again. This has been a fun find after my many times to WDW.Something new do do!!!!:goodvibes And yes it's true... a NEW way to spend money!!!:scared1:

Just call the cake hotline number 407-827-2253 and follow the prompts, when you get to the one for the Grand Floridian, just tell the person who answers that you want a custom cake and they will put you through to Pat. Her direct number is probably somewhere in this thread, but I don't have it here with me.

.

Just wanted to drop a quick note to say how much I've really enjoyed this thread!!! I'm so glad I came across this board. I enjoyed all the ideas and pictures of the cakes. You guys has helped me come up with some wonderful ideas for our upcoming trip.

Going to be calling within the next couple of days to order my son's bday cake.

It is funny because I though my DH would have a fit over the price of the cakes but when he saw the pictures he is all for it and wants my son's bday cake to be awesome.

Just a quick question:

I thought someone put on here that the mickey head stamps are only offered at the GF. My son was wanting to get the stamps on his cake and we are dining at Chef Mickey's on his bday. I figured cakemanbri or someone could answer that one for me. If you do offer them there are they only done in gold and silver or can we choose the color(my son wants them in blue).

TIA :)
