Official Breast Feeding Support Thread for WDW Parks

For those that are EBF are you bringing your pump? I can't decide if I should lug it along since, #1 I don't want anything to happen to it, and #2 it's just one more thing to bring...gosh what if I would forget it

Do you bring a hand pump and if so do you have a recommendation?

We leave in a little over a month and my little girl will be over 6 months so if we do decide to go out for a bit and I feed her before we leave, my mom could give her something else if she was hungry.

And just to add, I have always nursed in public and nursed my DS in the parks on his first trip at 18 months. I don't remember any weird looks except for when I would order food I would need to explain that my DS had food allergies but that I was nursing so I couldn't eat those things either.

By the end of the week I just would say that I had the allergy, lol but everyone was very supportive

So excited to be going back in 2 1/2 weeks! DS will be 10 months when we go and is nursing. Although he is doing this weird nursing thing where he latches on and then pops off and tries to do a back bend! It was cute the first few times but now it is just annoying! I hope that he is out of that phase in the next few weeks!

I have a few carriers that I will be taking with me and NEED to practice nursing in them. My only issue is what shirt to wear. I always wear a nursing tank but need a shirt over it. I can't lift it up so I have to have a really deep neck! Any thoughts?

I've nursed all 3 of my little ones and we travel to Disney frequently (we live in FL) we discovered their wonderful changing/feeding rooms about 2 years ago. I nurse in there if needed. We usually don't go until our nursling is at least eating solids to make it a bit easier. I have also nursed right on a bench. I just wear a loose fitting shirt and a nursing bra and unhook my bra and latch my baby on while my shirt pretty much covers it. I don't think people even realize I'm nursing at all. I personally find this to be way more discreet than using a cover. Right now my youngest is still nursing and she's 18 mos, if she really wanted to nurse I'd probably go to one of the rooms because she doesn't nurse calmly anymore and I'd probably give everyone a show with her constant popping on and off.

Tam, a friend of mine made her own nursing tops by cutting slits into tank tops and wearing them beneath T-shirts, then she could nurse through the slits without worrying about her belly being exposed. I used to wear bella bands when my baby was little and my postpartum belly was still big and squishy so I didn't have to worry about people seeing it. Now I don't care so much.

I EBF my little guy but I did bring my Medela hand pump. I got it for free from my hospital but I think they list for like $35 or so. It worked way better than I thought it would. I would look into that instead of bringing your big one.

As far as what to wear, I have a few nursing tops and I wore a few maternity tops (my guy was only 10weeks when we went and I am still in some maternity wear). I did wear a nursing tank under tops at times or the bella band. Easiest thing I found was nursing tops or tops with deep V necks or stretchy necks that I could pull down, so much easier than trying to lift a top all the way up. I wish I was better at nursing while my son was in his ring sling, would have made life easier but I did nurse on the go a few times and it wasn't so hard! Oh and I pretty much carried my son in his Ergo the whole time, it was fantastic!!!!!!! Made getting off and on rides easy and gave him a vantage point to look around when he was awake.

I'm a mother/baby RN and it makes me smile to see this thread here!

My favorite ride to nurse on is the TTA & the CMs have always been great about letting us stay on for another ride if we wanted to (there was never a line).

I hate to fiddle around with the strap latch thingy in public.

i just wear a regular nursing bra from motherhood and a nursing tank under my reg shirt.Dont buy the nursing tanks with the padding in them, it would bunch up and make me look funny.
We got back march 5th. Around 10am i would take the baby to the babycare center to change and nurse her. AK was the best bc it was a tiny room with the door. I had no issues anywhere nursing her. We nursed on TTA multiple times. I found a lovely bench in the back of the UK to nurse her. And alot of other nice places in epcot. For some reason i felt most comfortable nursing in Epcot in public.
I EBF and my dd doesnt get bottles so we didnt bring a pump, but i did run into one mother pumping. It seems like more work and takes more time to me.

My favorite nursing bras are from Bravado. They have a really easy clasp that I can undo very easily with one hand. I think it's just personal preference really, though.

stephie- I loved the baby care center in AK, too-- I remember thinking it was just a lifesaver when I had an easily-distracted little one I was trying to nurse to sleep. That little room was quiet & cool, it was perfect!

I've given up on nursing bras. They are expensive and ugly. I just use my regular bras and pull down the cup. I wear lightly padded and it's never been a problem.

I preferred the ones from Motherhood that have the padding and an underwire. I never had a problem getting them undone one handed.

I also made sure to wear 2 tops at the same time, so while I pulled the top layer up, I pulled the bottom layer down.

I have to say that when this thread started last year my baby boy was barely on solids and all over the BM. Sadly he is now 16 months old and weaned himself off of BM at 13 months.

What a fantastic thread! I've only read page one and need to get off to bed now but will finish it tomorrow As a person who works with breastfeeding mothers, is breastfeeding herself and is also very involved in other aspects of breastfeeding and baby feeding, I'm glad to find it, so I thank you.

Where I live I feed my baby when ever he needs it, where ever he needs it. I never use cover up things because he wouldn't allow it, I don't feel they're needed, and to me, there's no bigger sign that you are feeding than to use one!

But I wasn't sure what the rules are in Florida - so see your quote has made my day That's brilliant.

I have a bunch from when DD was still nursing but I never did get a hang of undoing it discreetly in public.

I guess I just have to keep trying

I nursed an 8 month old and then on the next trip a 11 week old all throughout the world. I didn't find the baby care stations all that convenient, so I would just find a comfy spot and nurse, preferrably someplace shady.
I never had any weird looks, I even nursed right at our dinner table at most of our sit down restaurants. In fact we met up with another large party we knew and I nursed at the table with 22 people seated at the same table in Ohana. Now mind you I was covered so most of them never even knew. As far as the rest of our party was concerned, I have had three babies and they were used to seeing me nurse, the never have "seen anything" in the proces and everyone is very comfortable in our travelling party.

I also wore nursing tanks, or bras with a tank underneath my shirts, I hated having my squishy tummy exposed, but with being very well endowed I found I had the problem of the "uni-breast" I still haven't been able to fix that in the bravado nursing tanks.
I did buy the nursing hats and used tehm on the really hot and humid days so that my sweet baby was not covered completely under a nursing cover and I found they were very discreet and I could see her face and still have that eye contact experience and noone was the wiser, they thought i was just cuddling my little baby.latching on and off was not so discreet but my hubby or mom would shield in case anyone was near by.

I love to see another mom feeding her baby, I love seeing women cherish this wonderful ability and not be ashamed, or feel the need to be hidden as in years past.

For me, I like the nursing bras with the thin (regular bra sized) strap so I could where it with tank tops and summer shirts. Also, I was QUITE big (a DDD) so support was a important issue to. I ended up going to Nordstrom and getting some Waycols.... LOVED them!!!

Not weird at all! Looks like I'll be nursing Katie for a 3rd time in WDW this summer. She'll be 23 mos Thu, and not even thinking about slowing down
