Official Breast Feeding Support Thread for WDW Parks

I'm still nursing my almost 16 month old, but she's down to 3, maybe 4 times a day. I'm hoping to make it to Disney with her still nursing, which is about 2 months away.

Ya, I think its sad how many ppl are so negative about nursing past 6mts even. Its craaazy! Thinking about taking a two year old to the nursery at church to nurse is stressful, because most ppl would think you are nuts, when in fact its the best thing for them!!! My DS was down to nursing once a night when I quit, but he prolly could have went like that just nursing before bed for a long time. Good for you for sticking to your guns!

:rotfl2: I still night nurse my 3 year old and didn't day wean her until well around 32 months/2 1/2 years.

DD turns 2 on Friday and she still nurses 3 times a day! I can't believe we made it this far. I've spent 1 1/2 years worried that she'd wean herself before 2, but we made it!!

Anyone currently extended nursing here? I'm nursing my 19 mo old

Add me in to the long-time nursers. I have found that attitudes about nursing are changing. They still have a way to go, but it seems like 2 years is looked at how 1 year used to be. I still nurse my youngest in public, and he'll be 2 years old next month. I get a lot of positive comments. However, when my oldest was that age, I got a lot of people walking quickly by me instead. (My second child did not nurse in public at all past 18 months and rarely past 12 months. She would only lie down to nurse). I weaned my first child a month before he turned 5 years old. My second child will turn 5 years old in March and still nurses at night, though I'm thinking of night weaning her soon and just keeping the right before bed nursing session. (So by this third time around, I have trouble thinking of my nearly 2 year old being an "extended" nurser).

I've been to WDW with nurslings and never had an issue. I think WDW is more nursing-friendly than most places. Plus, nursing is an easy way to get a baby to be quiet for everyone else when you're in an attraction! I had to do that a lot on our last trip when my youngest was 11 months. (I've also nursed a 2 month old and 9 month old on two different trips. Though my oldest was still nursing on those trips as well, I didn't have any needs to nurse him in public, since he was 3).

I am well past this stage, but just wanted to give anyone who is trying to figure out all the logistics of nursing on vacation all the support they need. I nursed all three for 12-18 months and it's not always easy, but it's a great choice for you and your child. I used to find a quiet corner, or baby care center - but just know there are a lot of us mothers with older children who were where you are now, and really support you...even though no one ever says it - it seems wrong to high five while you are nursing :) Julie

This is NOT a place to debate breastfeeding in public, but a safe place where we can share our stories, tips and pictures of breastfeeding at Walt Disney World. :grouphug:

So post a picture, share a story, give advice about 'best locations' or favorite shirts/bras  ........

Let's create a wonderful community here of breastfeeding Disers!

OH I LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!!

I just stopped nursing my youngest less than 6 months ago. She is 3 and some now. I miss it so much. I am an total advocate for it and just love love love that knowing that I gave my child the best possible start to her life!!:yay:

I'm so glad I found this thread. I'm headed to the world with my DS in October and he will be just over a year old. I'm loving BFing and have no plans to stop at a certain time. We will just see how long we BF for.

I'm recently back from the World, and I had no qualms about BF in public wherever I had to...

I did get a little bit of the evil eye from an older lady when I was feeding her at the Liberty Tree Tavern, but I think it was because I showed a bit of nip when DD fidgeted... (oh well) I also nursed her during the Buzz Lightyear line in my Ergo, and other than my MIL exclaiming "Breastfeeding is such a wonderful thing, isn't it?" no one would have known I was BFing. Most of the time I was able to get away with feeding her at a meal & in the hotel room in the AM and PM.

I just wanted to check back in with this thread. I still remember the original thread that started it all. My DD is still nursing at 16 months.

I'm glad I found this thread!

I have a 2 yr. old who will be 2.5 yrs. old by our Disney trip in June. I never expected to be a nursing mom this long, but the end is nowhere in sight :rotfl:!

Hopefully, tolerance for nursing extends to those of us who nurse children beyond 1 yr. old pushing towards 3 yrs. old. I'm well aware of the baby centers, but i'm wondering if older babies are welcome too?

Yes, the babycenters welcome the older babies. We went to WDW in mid December. My DS was 10 months old and my DD was 2. We took both kids in the baby center. DS was nursing but DD was not. I don't think anyone would have an issue with an "older" baby nursing. All the women in the nursing rooms are there for one reason. Why would they care how old the child is?

The centers were a great place for the kids to play and warm up. Most of the time my DD would play in the play area while DS would nurse. There were also families with older children inside who were waiting on younger siblings.

I will say the baby center at AK rocks. It was larger than the others. And, it has private nursing rooms. The Studios was by far the worst. It is tiny. And it didn't help that some of the families decided to bring their stroller inside which made it even more cramped.

You don't have to find a baby center to nurse. There's plenty of areas/attractions to feed the little one. We tended to go to the centers because it was unusually cold.

Have a great trip!

just a note - ndfi78 is my DH. I'm on his computer "working". My username is kappyfinn.

Thanks so much! I'm looking forward to this trip, it will be our first :woohoo:!

It seems that we won't be given a hard time if/when she does decide she want to nurse during the day. One less thing I have to worry about!!!!

I took Katie for a week in June at 13 mos, for a weekend in Oct at 17 mos, and would be surprised if she isn't still nursing this July at 26 mos. I never nursed in one of the centers. She nursed EVERYWHERE. On the buses, at the parades, on many of the rides (Spaceship Earth, HM, The Land, etc), the shows, pretty much anywhere she wanted! I never had any problems.:)

We just returned from a truly magical disney vacation at WDW! It was our first trip and I am a little obsessed with trying to figure out how we can return quickly! I am a nursing mom and I found it to be pretty easy to nurse my 6 month old anywhere in the park. The baby care centers are great but not centrally located, so I found that I used them only when I ran out of diaper supplies. The boat rides and shows were the easiest places to nurse because it was dark and I didn't have to worry about other people too much but I also nursed on benches and in restaurants with no problem.
While I was nursing at Hollywood studios on a bench outside of "The Voyage", some french teenage boys sat beside me and patted my baby on the head. I didn't know if they were unaware he was nursing (I had a cover over everything but the top of his head) or if culturally it is a little more free. It made me chuckle:rotfl:

Our little one just turned two year old on Sunday, and she still nurses about 5-6 times per day. We were in Disney World in September, and no one gave us any guff about nursing. We nursed in all the dark rides, it almost got to the point where it felt like I was riding "Nipples of the Caribbean" because she nursed on that ride from the moment we got on the boat to when we had to exit the ride.

She enjoys nursing so much and is so healthy, I do not feel the need to try and limit her "Num Num Time."

I enjoy nursing a toddler. Is is the best cure for a melt down, and such a great way to reconnect after a long day of all that toddler have to offer.

So true! It would be an absolute disaster if she couldn't get any "mommy milk" while we are touring the parks.

hi! I'm currently nursing DS#2. Is there anywhere in Disney that you didn't feel comfortable nursing, esp. certain restaurants? I like the baby care centers but they're not always close by. Thanks for any help.

When we went to WDW and I was nursing DS#1 I wouldn't do it in public even with a cover. Now w/DS#2, I don't have time to be worried about it.

Nope. I nursed whenever, wherever. I often don't do baby care centers because it takes longer to walk to one. The only time baby care centers are worth it to me is if it's very hot and I want air conditioning or if it's very cold and I want to warm up. You can nurse on a lot of the rides too. I've been three times with infants and never had any problems. I don't use a nursing cover but it would be hard to see anything anywhere.

When I was in AK, I saw a woman from another country nursing with her breasts completely hanging out. She was standing up and I'm not sure how DH didn't see her. People were walking by not noticing. I know some of the people walking by were likely from her country, since some were in the same tour group. But she was showing everything. I was very impressed that people either seemed to not notice or simply didn't care!

Never felt uncomfortable anywhere, and Katie christened pretty much every area we were in!:rotfl: People are too busy enjoying Disney to notice you, even though I might notice the event the PP wrote about!

"Is there anywhere in Disney that you didn't feel comfortable nursing, esp. certain restaurants?"

We were at the back of the Laugh Floor, and he had just finished nursing when the spotlight came on me. All I could think about is was I covered all the way and is he going to try to get some more. Other than that, everywhere else was great. I used empire type nursing shirts, so there was always easy access with good coverage.
