My family will be at Pop Century in August. During our trip we will be celebrating my birthday, our anniversary and DH Birthday. Has anyone ever gotten a cake at Pop? How are they? Can they be decorated?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me!

This is my DD's cake. We ordered through Linda at the GF bakery. We dined in Chef's Domain at Citrico's, her birthday is on Valentines Day so we asked for a Valentines/Minnie Mouse theme. It was a ten inch marble cake with chocolate filling and cost $80.

This is a white chocolate deluxe TinkerBell with strawberries - $45 at the California Grill that we got for our MIL & FIL's 30th Aniversary.

That cake is very cute!! I'm hopeing to have chocolate strawberries sent to us at POP. The F&B manager said no problem, but we'll see!:thumbsup2

Can they deliver cakes to POP? And if I wanted it for the night we checked in but won't know our room til we check in, how do I go about setting that up?? Do they do cakes to commemorate first times?? We don't have a birthday or anniversary but this is a very special trip for my MIL. And does anyone have any suggestions on what particular cake to order?

If you have endless free time to read all 200+ pages, there has been a deep discussion on whether or not cakes could be delivered to Pop. I think the last I saw, the answer is "Yes". You might still want to call the cake hotline and ask well in advance and Yes they can put anything on the cake like, "Welcome" "congrats on 1st trip" . Don't forget to post you results so we can all "have our cake and eat it too":rotfl: :rotfl: .

That cake and your DD are adorable!

When it comes to the white chocolate mickeys, minnie, tinkerbell, castle, etc. is there any way to perserve it to have it for keeps?

I know this isn't the right thread, but can someone give me a link to the Wedding Cake thread? I can't find it...

Just scroll down the main board until you find the wedding board and there's a huge thread with lots of pics.

It's been asked a few times, but so far no answers that I have seen. It's real edible chocolate, so I highly doubt there is a way to preserve it. Espically with a plane/car ride home. If you possibly lived in or near orlando, it could MAYBE be done if you wrap it correctly and store it in a cool, dry, dark place in your home, but even then.....it's still food. :confused3

OK...here's my cake story.

I called the cake hotline about two weeks prior to our ADR at Ohana and I ordered an 8" white chocolate cake with white chocolate icing and filling.

First off, the woman on the other end of the line tries to talk me into the 6" cake because there are only 3 of us for dinner. It didn't matter how many people were there, I wanted the custom cake!

The woman sighs in a disgusted manner and tells me to hold on while she gets a pen to write down my information.

I said I wanted "Happy 13th Birthday, T.J." written ON the cake and other than that, to make it look nice!

I saw some beautiful cakes from the Polynesian bakey on this thread...I thought I would get something similar...Boy, was I wrong! I assumed I'd get a cake with some kind of Polynesian theme on it. Well...I learned my lesson...do NOT assume anything!

This was a generic cake that, when it was served to my son, was FROZEN SOLID!!!
Also, it was whipped cream icing. We do not like whipped cream icing on cakes. The "Happy Birthday" message was written in PINK gel on a gold foil plate. You couldn't even see the writing on it.

I just have a warning for those of you ordering cakes from the hotline. DOUBLECHECK! TRIPLECHECK if you have to! When I checked in at Ohana, they had no record of my cake being ordered. The lady at the podium told me to mention it to my server. I had to chase him down all over the restaurant because I didn't want to mention it in front of T.J. It was supposed to be a surprise, after all!:confused3

I do have to mention that our server was very apologetic and did not charge us for the cake and let us take it back to the room.

I was really looking forward to this. I was very disappointed.

Please call a day or two before your ADR to make sure they have your order in the system. It will save you a lot of aggrevation.

Wow, i'm so sorry you had such a bad expirence. That cake is...um...well nice if you wanted generic. I definately will be reconfirming my cake order before we arrive!

So sorry about your experience, Mousermom. I agree that you need to double and triple check everything because unfortunately, there are some people working the phones at the cake hotline who literally have no clue what they are talking about. Perhaps they are subbing for someone else, but this week we had a very weird experience when calling the hotline to double check what kinds of cakes Boardwalk Bakery could make.

The lady answering the phone at the cake hotline first said that all cakes on property are made at one central location, must be eaten in a restaurant, and none are decorated. :rolleyes1 Well, knew that wasn't right.

She continued on to ask us where we were staying, and when she knew we'd be at the Wilderness Lodge, she said we'd have to order a cake from the Contemporary because they are the only ones to do cakes for WL; "WL doesn't have a baker to make cakes." :rolleyes1 Funny, considering my mom had talked to the baker at WL earlier this month. Maybe it was all a dream! :rotfl2:

My mom then asked to be connected to Boardwalk Bakery to talk to them directly, but the lady said that bakery is inaccessible to guests and no one can enter that building period, much less pick up a cake from them. :rolleyes1 My mom said she didn't understand because that was not what she had read here or been told on previous calls, including a call to BB, and then the CM seemed to get annoyed before transferring her back to the "main menu" of the cake hotline.

Um, yeah. If we didn't have this board and didn't know things like the fact that people can go in the Boardwalk Bakery, we would've been out of luck. I know people make mistakes, but gracious, that was sad.

I agree that the cake they brought out was a nice cake. It just wasn't what I was expecting considering all the nice cakes I've seen on this thread from the Poly. I guess I wasn't specific enough.:confused3

Or... the fact that that maybe they had to scramble to find something because there was no record of the cake in the system.

PLEASE take my advice!!!

Let me know if it turns out the way you want it to.:thumbsup2

I went to the Boardwalk bakery while we were there, and I saw a very adorable Mickey head cake! In fact, I bought a miniature version of the cake:

So...whoever your mom was talking to was a straight-up liar!:rotfl2:

Ok after reading Mousermoms reply, I am wondering if I should use the hotline? We will be dining at the California Grill for my sons 15th birthday do you think I should just call the Contemporary bakery :confused3 I want something really nice? help!!!!

I'm not sure about this, but I think there is a number for private dining on page 1. If not, I would definitely call the Contemporary directly.

Makes sure you get the name of the person you talk to.

Good luck!:thumbsup2

As you can see, the Boardwalk bakery gave me a little take-out container to take back to my room. So, I'm sure you can get a few to take home with you.

Although, the cake was good! The cake itself was a vanilla "confetti" cake and the icing was chocolate ganache! Yummy!

They might not make the trip home!:rotfl2:

Ohhh I love this. How much was it if you don't mind me asking. Also did they have a lot of these or was it a kind of a hit or miss thing?

TIA!
