Applechips, it turned out beautifully! My pirates would have LOVED it. With discount it was more like $70, right? Well worth it, IMO, though I am sorry the buttercream wasn't great. I am hoping the chocolate on ours disguises the taste of Crisco!

I just called GF and ordered Faith a 10" white cake with fruit filling and white buttercream icing and they are going to put some kind of Ariel screen printing on it. 40+tax and 15.00 for image.

OK, now I know about how much my cake will cost.....silly me I forgot to ask!! I haven't told anyone about it, we will come back from the park and there it will be!! :yay:

Leaving tomorrow ... I think the cakes are all ordered. DH has been handling it and reports that he found someone at the Poly who has been wonderful to work with. He's confident our anniversary cake will be fabulous! I am hopeful too!

We're also getting something at CRT and who knows what else ... I told DH to surprise me.

Will report back with pics when we return!

Called the cake hotline today to order a surprise cake for SO's 33rd birthday on 9/21. We are checking in that evening at CSR. I had read on here that you could have the cake delivered to your room (didn't want it at a restaurant, we are doing EPCOT EMH and didn't want to drag leftovers around). When I called the hotline I chose option 6 for the CSR resort, and then I was stumped...it only listed the restaurants, so I went back to the main menu and relistened to the whole thing. Finally I chose the option for the Maya Grill, to try to get directed to the right place. They told me I had to call room service at CSR to order it. I did and got a really sweet woman, but she really didn't know/understand, so she kept putting me on hold to check with someone else. Finally "Fidel" (like Castro he said ;) ) got on the line. He was so helpful. I explained that we wouldn't be checking in until 9/21 so I didn't know my room number yet, but wanted the cake delivered to the room. I told him I would really like it waiting in the room for us when we arrived, but I had heard that wasn't possible (to have it delivered before check-in) he said no problem...I just had to choose what time I wanted it delivered and it had to be after 11am (because of check-out from the night before). I think we will be there about 7:30pm to check-in so I asked for it to be delivered around 7:00pm. There was no problem. I gave him my ressie number and name, he made notes about the whole order, and indicated on the note for the delivery person to call the front desk to get my room number so it will be waiting for me.

I chose the smallest cake (there is only 2 of us) and was given the following options at CSR:
-double chocolate
-strawberry
-carrot
-Oreo (I asked and he said it was a white chocolate cake with oreo bits)
-German Chocolate

I chose double chocolate and asked them to write "Happy Birthday Daryl."

I asked if I should call back to confirm the day before we are to arrive, he said I could if I wanted to but not to worry, he said he was the "room service manager" and he would make sure it was waiting for us when we arrive!!

Anyone know about cakes at Jiko? When I made our ADR they gave me a number to call. But I have not seen Jiko mention here.

DH and I are having a solo dinner for 10th anniversary, and we are leaving the girls w/my mom. We are going to Raglan Rd. Apparently this place has no affiliation w/Disney (per the bakery 800#) even though it is in Pleasure Island, and I was told to call the restaurant directly and ask them about ordering a cake for us (it will be a surprise for DH). My question, if I have to make ADRs thru Disney dining, why can't I order a cake thru the bakery at Disney?

Your thoughts??

Let me know what you find out about this. DH and I will also be eating there for 10th Anniv on 12/9. Thanks.

i am just about to book a trip for Dec 08 (i know! i am taking planning to the extreme) We are going to do a split stay between GF and AKL ( 7 days in each) My question is;

Does any one know what the different choices are for birthday cakes and fillings at the two resorts?

Actually i have a few questions!;

Which of the two would have the best bakery with the best quality cakes?

Are their other foodie treats i can organise through the bakery, like the starwberries for instance?

I really want to make this an amazing trip - it will be my DH's first birthday in the world (it's usually mine!) and he will be only just back from a tour of Afganistan. I want to get this right!! please help

Here's our Pirate theme cake! We had it delivered to our table at 1900 Park Fare (GF cafe at the moment) for a late Supercalifragalistic Breakfast this past Sunday.

Everything was edible except the pearls. :goodvibes The treasure chest and the mast with the skull on it were made from gum paste (I think) and the rest of the items were either white chocolate or made from a hardened sugar...like the shells and the sand. The silver and gold coins were foil wrapped chocolate coins. Overall the cake LOOKED fantastic, it tasted ok. The chocolate ganache was so rich. The yellow cake was good, but the buttercream was um...not so good... it was made with a lot of shortening and not much sugar or butter IMHO, so that white part wasn't very sweet...and there was a TON of it. IMO, too much. I am not a professional pastry chef but I have made my fair share of cakes and buttercream frostings from scratch to give a good opinion, I feel. You couldn't eat too much of the cake or else it would make you a little pukey! LOL.

The cake was a yellow/vanilla cake with buttercream inside the layers and chocolate ganache on the outside. I might suggest LESS layers to anyone ordering this, because the way it was, we wanted more cake, but there was so much buttercream on the inside it took away from the cake. So 2 layers instead of 3 layers of the cake would be way better IMHO. The server put it onto the breakfast bill and I paid for everything usuing my Disney Dining Experience 20% off card, so I got that percentage off the cake.

We got it the day before we checked out, and just left it on the counter of our room. It got a little soft there but didn't completely melt. The Polynesian room fridge was just too small to accomodate this huge cake. When we checked out we asked the valet people (at the Poly) if they had a fridge and they did and so they put it in the fridge until we were ready to leave.

The cake was huge!! And my sweet baby boy loved it:

Sorry to quote this whole post :)
That treasure chest looks a lot like the one they use at Disneyland for the desserts at the Blue Bayou!

This is all very helpful since I will be ordering one for DHs birthday the same week! I have a few questions, if you don't mind...

Do you remember what the number was for CSR room service?
How much was the cake?
Did you have to give CC info, or will it be billed to the room?

I might just ask for Fidel straight off the bat! Thanks for the info!

Do you mind if I ask what the price was for the cake? We're checking in 9/20 and it's our wedding anniversary. I'd love to be able surprise DH! :goodvibes

Oh yeah, can I just call the main line at CSR to get connected?

Linda from GFB called today to say our 25th anniversary cake was at the bakery and she arranged it so I could pick it up there. Originally it was to be delivered to a wishes cruise on the 11th. But cruise was cancelled due to bad weather and we couldn't find the cake. We rescheduled everything for the next night but again the cruise was cancelled. Anyway, it was nice of Linda to call today so we could get the cake.

It's a white cake with white buttercream icing and a filling of custard & strawberries. I'd asked for something simple with peach roses. It's just beautiful and really delicious! DH & I each had a piece but the folks we were originally going to share it with have since left Disney. So there are about 10 pieces left and we leave Sunday. :(

Still it's a beautiful cake and I will order something similar next time.

Glad you finally got your cake! It looks stunning.

I've ordered a cake from the Boardwalk Bakery to collect on the day of our Wishes cruise. I'd read people had a few problems with the cake being delivered so decided to collect it. It's for my DBF and my friend's little girl's birthday. I told them to do something 'very Disney' so I can't wait to see what we get :thumbsup2

DH walked in and picked up an 8" all chocolate birthday cake for me from Boardwalk Bakery our first day here. It looked great and was delicious.

You're very smart to pick up the cake, just in case it rains. Enjoy!

Hi! I have never ordered a cake before and I have a couple of questions. It will be my MIL's bday when we go in 2 weeks. We are having dinner at the Liberty Tree Tavern and will be staying at the GF. My question is if we would have the cake at LTT, what happens to the leftovers? Do we have to carry it around the park until we leave or will they ship it back to the room? I guess I'm wondering if it's just easier to order from the GFB and have it in the room? Any thoughts would really be appreciated! Thanks :goodvibes This thread is wonderful!

Restaurants will not ship cakes back to hotels and will not hold your cake for a few hours for you.

Either you can have it boxed up and bring it with you or you can leave the remainder behind (or share it with your table neighbors) or you can order the cake for enjoyment in your room.

Thank you so much for the quick response! I think we will order it at the GF and enjoy it in the room!

Hey guys...correct me if I am wrong.

What I am understanding so far is....the only way I can order a cake from the Grand Floridian Bakery is to dine at any of the Grand Floridian restaurants and preorder one right???

I always get a replica of my intimate wedding cake from the Grand Floridian so that it tastes exactly the same as it did on my wedding day.

From what I understand, that is the only way to do it now right?
Unless I stay at the Grand Floridian.

Please let me know so I don't have a huge let down.

Thanks
Gabrielle
