Official Avengers Half Marathon Weekend 2015 Thread

I think you are asking the wrong people if you're crazy lol !! I say do it! We just did the Disneyland half and now we are doing avengers. Do it for your health. Do it for the status. Do it for the medals! Do it for the bananas!!!

Thank you for the encouragement! I'm going to go check flights and then figure out a way to propose this plan to DH. :love2:

How does Proof of Time work if you just sign up for the Half now? Proof of time deadline was Aug 4th. But they still have Half spots available. Would I be placed in the last corral regardless? Or would I get to submit a PoT when I register?
My friend was in a situation like that when registering for Princess through a TA after the corral cutoff date. I emailed runDisney asking and here was their response:

"Thank you for contacting us. Great question. No, your friend would not automatically be in the last corral for the race. She would need to provide the travel operator her proof of time, and we would verify this before assigning her the appropriate corral; it would be very important she provide her proof correctly the first time, as once it is entered no changes can be made since it is past the deadline.

Happy New Year!

Thank you,
runDisney"

Of course the warning is that things may have changed, but this is the official word when I asked.

Thanks for the info! Good to know! When I signed up through a charity, the Active registration form (group registration) asked for proof of time (estimated time, race name, date of race etc), but I was still assigned to the last corral. Wonder if the process is different for TA and for charities. I was so stressed being in the last corral for Tink.

A few thoughts...

-For the Captain America 10K my hope is that they will have the World of Color fountains going in red, white, and blue with the Captain America march/theme song playing in the background.
-I'm glad the Half Marathon is at 92% I hope this race continues on for years to come and if it doesn't sell out I hope that won't negatively impact it's future. In my mind they could easily get the half to sell out next year by giving maybe 5% more spots in the half to the challenge, of course that will take more spots from the 10K... Also if this year there is better weather that could calm some people down who were hesitant to sign up because of the weather last year.
-I'm excited to find out the courses for this year, gut feeling says they alter the 1/2 a little bit to have more in park time, and hopefully the 10K will have around 4 miles in the park.
-Also the past few races at Disneyland they have had a lot more characters on course than the 2014 Disneyland 10K so I'm excited to see a good amount of characters on course. For the Avengers I'm thinking we will see: Captain America, Thor, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Ant-Man... Others that I hope we see: Falcon, Scarlet Witch, Vision, and Quick Silver

If the half doesn't sell out, I wonder if they would move some of the half spots to challenge spots (and thus take away some of the 10K spots) in future years?

I don't think they will get rid of this one any time soon...from what I hear it's one of the more profitable races for runDisney from a merchandise point of view. :) I'm guessing Star Wars will overtake this one for merch sales though.

Those would be nice characters to see, and you're probably good on the first group. I'm guessing we won't see any other Marvel characters that haven't already been meeting with guests though since they probably only put the time and money into costumes if they're going to be regularly greeting guests. If they're going to increase characters on the run, they could do it with some Disney regulars.

I finally feel safe to join in! I'm doing the 1/2 for my 50th and started running in February (training in earnest on the Galloway schedule). I completed 10 miles with a potty break last week and I'm confident I'll make it! I didn't have any times to submit so I know I'll be in the last corral. Anyone have a guess as to when can I reasonably expect to start? Also I'm pretty sure I won't have time for character pics. Will there be other opportunities?

DH is doing the challenge. He is a runner and timing says he will finish the half in 1:30. Knowing I'll be closer to 3:00 will he have time to head back to the DLH and get the kids to watch me finish?

Thanks!

I didn't have PoT for Star Wars in January so I started in the last corral. I had time to stop for characters but none of the popular ones (Darth Vader, Chewie, Boba Fett) because the lines were really long. I think I made 4-5 stops for characters in Disneyland and another 4-5 stops for castle, WoC, etc. Because of all those stops, we came closer to finishing around 3:20. We only saw the balloon ladies a couple times (when we were standing in line for characters) but after we got out of the parks, we never saw them again. So it is possible to stop for pictures even if you start in the last corral. I believe we lined up near the front of the corral so that gave us a bigger buffer. We started around 6 AM.

For Tink, DH was injured so we walked 90% of the half. We didn't stand in line for any character stops but we still stopped for some pictures in the parks (castle, Cars Land, Toon Town, partners statue, etc) and finished around 3:35. For Tink we also started in the last corral because we signed up late but we never saw the balloon ladies. We lined up in the first quarter of the last corral and started around 6:20 AM.

Hope that helps!

Just an FYI - I bought in to the Disneyland 5K well after the closing date and I had my name on my bib (this was about ... 6 weeks before the race?) and was in Corral A.

When I asked about Avengers with the same TA, I was told that I had up until 4 weeks before my bib to both buy the bib AND still submit proof of time to be assigned a corral. 4 weeks out is when Travel Agents generally have to turn in all the information for runners - that's why you can register with them and still cancel and get a portion of your registration fee back.

Alright, I'm ready to start thinking about Half #2!! WOOO. This time, I would like to be a little faster, a little earlier to my corral, and dressed up a TAD bit more. I did Wonder Woman for the 5k last year (even made a cameo in the video! Ha), but is anyone thinking about clothes yet?

And yes, please, no Santa Ana winds would be nice.

The threat of those winds is the only thing that's truly keeping me from pulling the trigger. That was ALL everyone I talked to last weekend about Avengers would mention.

I'm not a comic book expert by any means... But isn't Wonder Woman along with Superman, Batman, etc part of DC and owned by disney's competitor Warner Bros and not part of the Disney owned Marvel World (I.e. Xmen owned by 20th Cemtury Fox)

will Disney allow DC costumes?

Wonder Woman is a DC character.

Disney doesn't care what you're wearing as long as all your private bits are covered.

Can't wait for those winds to start, it's about that time. I'll take that weather over rain any day to run in and it seems October and November are either Santa Ana or raining around here.

Santa Ana's are hit and miss ... you never know when they are going to show up. I don't think I've ever experienced them like that though. But it could be even better: we are expecting a pretty good El Nino storm this winter, so maybe it will show up early!! :goodvibes

I realize WW is DC, but I LOVE her and I didn't care and she's still a superhero. LOL. Also, we had just come back from W&D the weekend before at WDW, so I didn't have a lot of time to think. haha.

The only reason I'm hopeful for one or two new characters is last year it was the Avengers half marathon weekend that introduced us to Hawkeye and Black Widow. The Disney Blog made a big deal about it because it was the first time they were in the park. And they aren't at any normal meet and greet but sometimes show up for special events like when they had a special screening of Avengers 2.

With the Kids races being themed to Ant-Man I'm hoping he will be on course. (Although they could always say that he is the size of an Ant cheering them on... They just can't see him... Ha ha.)

Whatever the case I think its going to be a lot of fun!
