**Official August 2016 Check In Thread**

For those who are there right now, what's the weather been like in the evening? I know it's going to be hot and humid during the day, but last night I looked at the weather there and it said it was 69 degrees, and it "felt like" 69 degrees as well. To a Chicagoan, that can be cool or it can be hot, depending on the context! :D

When we were there in February, we had to change to long sleeves and pants for the latter part of the day. Would you say that's true now, or can I get away with packing just one set of clothes per day?

Definitely cooler than early this week; the humidity is finally getting down to regular CA numbers. Evenings have cooled down with less humidity as well. We were actually really cold watching WOC Thursday night. I didn't bring any long sleeve shirts and I'm kicking myself. I'd recommend one or two just in case.

I agree with the above bring long sleeves for sure. I generally keep a light sweater in my bag to prevent freezing in restaurants (I'm a giant wuss when it comes to a/c) and I had that on Thursday night watching the parade and fireworks and was chilly, especially during the fireworks - it was better during the parade since we were sitting on the curb and the cement was still warm from the sun.

Sooo....we just booked the WOC dessert package! It's our 12th wedding anniversary today and my mom gave us some money as a gift (which we were totally NOT expecting) so we decided to splurge on this! We've been on the fence about it for a while (and off the fence too lol) so I'm super excited that we can and are doing it!

Can anyone tell me exactly where check in is for this? I think I read it's near the Little Mermaid ride? Has anyone done it this month - I think @Disney_Alli is doing it/has done it?

.

We did it Thursday night and the entrance is directly in front of the little mermaid building facing the water. There's a sign that says WOC dessert. We lined up at 7:30; there was one group in front of us. It filled up pretty quickly. I sent my son on Mermaid a couple times so he could pass the time. They went through the line and marked food allergies but did not allow actual check in until 8:15pm. It was first come for seating and I asked the CM to pick for us. We ended up at a high top table in the front row. Our server was very strict with the 2 drink alcohol max. My son didn't like the Shirley temple they put in the glow cup and no other pop was available. He had 4 glasses of cocoa instead. A few people weren't happy with their seat assignment; if it's something important to you I recommend getting there early.

@Disney Lvr of Old thank you for the info!

When we are there the hours are cut back - 10-8pm for DCA with WOC at 8:15. Our ressie is at 7:30, so do you think we should be a bit earlier than that, say 7:15? My girls love Shirley Temples, they have them whenever we go out to eat (you know, at any restaurant that doesn't have a drive thru :rotfl2:) I think they'll love the light up glasses. I'm super happy to just be able to have a TABLE and actual SEAT for WOC so I'm not super picky about where they seat us. Just glad to be out of the 'splash zone' as we ended up there by accident last October, got rather wet and were coooold

we arrived 45 minutes prior (not particularly on purpose but had finished our other plans) so 7:30 for 8:15 seating. The line built quickly but if you aren't worried about table choice I would just gauge your arrival time by that. I would say by 8pm 90% of guests were in line. there was plenty of time to eat and get drink refills.

Enjoying our first day at the parks. We did early entry at CA. We're looking forward to Blue Bayou and the WOC Dessert Party tonight. We say the first Frozen show this morning and both loved it. A very nice production. I loved the actor that played Olaf. Thought he was very funny.

Only three more work days and a long weekend to get through and we'll be on our way!

We did it last week as well. Our experience was much like Disney Lovers above. The line forms right outside of Little Mermaid. We got there at 7:30 and there were 2 or 3 groups already lined up so I decided to go ahead and join the line rather than risk being late from riding one more thing. I asked if we could request where we wanted to sit since I really wanted a front high-top. The CM said yes, adding that it was first-come, first-served so being there at 7:30 pretty much guaranteed us a good seat. I watched how they seated people and the first groups were given the high-tops in front.

Anyway, if you get there by 7:30 you should be good. No reason to get there before that IMO, but by 7:45 the line was starting to build. It also looked like to me that most people were already in line by 8.

We did the WoC DP last night, it was awesome. We lined up just before 8pm and were the 3rd group in line. Ours was a sold out party and we were joined at our table by the two ladies who were behind us in line (who we'd conveniently befriended while playing Heads Up while waiting to check in) the view was awesome and I'd definitely do it again. We also did the Frozen pre-show yesterday and felt it was well worth the $50/person. We each had 2 or 3 snow cones plus a couple bags of popcorn and some cider and really enjoyed all the picture spots and the visit from Olaf! I can't believe it's our last night in the parks our flight home tomorrow is at 3pm. We're planning on watching the Parade and fireworks again tonight!

We got here yesterday spent a great afternoon at DCA we fast passed TOT, rode screaming, TOT, screaming, fp RSR, toy story, then back to RSR then over to DL for pirates then grabbed the monorail to DVD to hit trader Sam's for dinner and a beer. This morning was great. We were in DL for rope drop, we headed into IJ, got a FP for Space mountain, then rode SM for some reason they missed stopping us at the get on off spot so we got to ride again with no getting off so SM x2, star tours, matterhorn both sides, back to SM for our FP by then it was getting busy around 11 for DL. Wanted to ride BTMR but it had just broke down so we Hopped over to DCA FP Soaring, Screaming was down so we people watched and went back to Soaring for our FP. Screaming came back on line so went back waited10 min in line.....all in all a great morning. DH loves SM so 3 rides on that one (with 1 of those being front car) he was happy. We went back to the hotel about 2:30 to hit the hot tub and rest up for evening.
So far a great trip. A little too busy in Tomorrow land for me in the afternoons but all in all mornings are the best for getting rides done.

We returned last night from our 5 day Disneymoon trip. We arrived late Sunday and stayed at the Grand Californian. We had an amazing view of California Adventure. Goofy's Sky School was right outside our window. We watched a little bit of World of Color from the back side when we checked into our room, but decided to wait until the Dessert Party on Tuesday to see the rest.

We headed to Downtown Disney to look for a late dinner and ended up at Trader Sam's. The place was busy, but we lucked out because a table became available just as we walked in the door. I was excited that I was able to get one of the Trader Sam's mugs with my Shipwreck on the Rocks. We had a Pu Pu platter to share and thought it was quite tasty.

We did rope drop every day and especially loved rope drop at CA. At CA, we never headed for Radiator Springs Racers, instead focused on the other attractions. We usually were able to do 4 to 5 attractions in the first hour. This usually included riding Screaming' twice. We then took a nap break in the early afternoon and then headed back into the parks till closing. We loved park hopping back and forth between the parks.

Disneyland Highlights:

Hyperspace Mountain - Loved how they integrated the Star Wars theme into the attraction

Star Tours - Still love how this ride is entertaining and enjoyable after all these years. We rode it 3 times and saw 3 different versions.

Big Thunder Mountain Rail Road - I noticed the improvements made since the last refurbishment. I tried the "Goat Trick", and it worked for me.

Jolly Holiday Bakery - We LOVED the raspberry macaron. I had 3 of them. We did notice they usually did not appear until later in the afternoon.

Blue Bayou - Loved the setting. The food was a lot better than I was expecting. We definitely would eat there again.

Donald Duck- I Disney Bound one morning with my Royal Blue suit and red bow tie. I was able to get an amazing picture with Donald Duck.

California Adventure Highlights:

Soarin' Over the World - WOW! The refurbishment of the screens is amazing. During my last visit, the screens were showing their years of wear and tear. This time, the image was crisp and clear. The new film is breath taking and we loved the new scents. We definitely suggest asking to sit in the top row. One time, I was top row center.

Caricature Artists- We had an artist draw us with the bodies of our respectful favorite characters (Ursula & Donald Duck). A little pricey, but we have an amazing drawing we totally love.

Tower of Terror - This is my all time favorite ride. I love the theming, the drop, etc. It was my last ride of our trip. I am sad to see it be rethemed as Guardians of the Galaxy, but I am excited that they will be adding the random drop sequence.

Frozen Show- Definitely worth seeing even though it does take a big part of the park day. Standing in line for fast passes, standing in line before the show and the show itself. We have season tickets to the touring Broadway shows in Seattle, and both agreed this was better than some of the shows we have seen here in Seattle. They have some very talented performers. We both thought Olaf was a perfect fit for the role.

Corn Dog Castle - We both agree it has some of the best corn dogs ever.

Other important highlights:

Napa Rose Chef's Counter- We loved it. We had Chef Gloria and the food was amazing. Definitely worth the $100 price. We plan to do it again our next trip.

Grand Californian DCA Entrance- We loved using it when it was to our advantage. There were times we avoided it because it was faster to go through Downtown Disney.

Some final thoughts:

Pin Trading- Trading is more of a thing at Walt Disney World. I was able to trade for some new Donald Duck pins that I didn't have yet. We still enjoyed checking out the Pin Boards in the stores.

Cast Members- We had some great interactions with some cast members. We meet one that has worked for Disney for 25 years and another one whose last day was our last day there after 35 years. Lots of congratulations from them through out the week. We wore "Happily Ever After" buttons every day. We got a lot of congratulations (even from other guests ) when we wore our Just Married t-shirts. Some cast members were never unfriendly, just would not get a response from them when you said good morning or hello.

Crowds - It was busy, but very manageable. We never waited more than 20 minutes for a ride. The longest wait we saw was 75 minutes for Radiator Springs Racers.

Theming - Disney still is the master at theming. It always amazes me at the amount of detail that goes into attractions. We did notice some wear and tear and sadly even graffiti (people carving initials in the bamboo in the Indy queue).

Overall, it was an amazing trip. We make it to Disney every 3 to 5 years. So next trip, Star Wars land should be open. We are excited for that.
