QOTD: Who does the packing in your house? Does "Mom" do the packing for the whole family? Or does each person pack their own stuff? Do you use a packing list? What have you forgotten to pack on past vacations? What do you fear you might forget on this trip?

Each of us picks out what we want to bring and I pack it. We use the Disney Diva list as a guide for what to bring and in the last 4 trips we haven't needed to buy anything we forgot :-)

I always worry if I remembered to lock the door but now I have the control from my phone lol.

I do most of the packing for our family. We bring minimal clothing as we end up shopping a lot while we're "down south", so its not a major undertaking. I have both the guys review their bags a day or two before we leave to make sure I didn't leave out anything of importance.

That said....we've forgotten a variety of things over the years, from belts to sunglasses to hair spray. Sometimes the most obvious things! (I mean, how do you leave for a trip to Florida and not remember your sunglasses?!?!?)

I am always less worried about forgetting the material things (that you can always buy when you are down there), and more worried about leaving the really important stuff behind. Like sitting my passport down on a chair in the boarding area and walking away kind of thing, or putting down my phone and forgetting to pick it up again. I've never done it, but I still worry about it!

I don't use a list, per se, but in the week or two before I leave, I always try to jot down a ummary of last-minute things that I want to remember to pack or to do that might otherwise slip my mind. I tend to get a bad case of vacation brain as the travel dates grow closer.

Haha I know what you mean - I'm the same! I'm hoping I won't be so bad this year as I successfully got 19 students in and out of the US in April, and the only thing that got lost was a Hard Rock Cafe T-shirt in a shopping bag that got left at a Broadway theatre! Mind you, I'm still having nightmares about that trip even after it's taken place; maybe I'm just a born worrier lol!

I am the hunter and gatherer and my husband is the packer. I throw everything we need in the living room and my husband meticulously packs everything in his packing cubes.

I sort of have a list, but what I normally do is go crazy with the gathering, then look at the list to see if I've missed something.

Lat DW trip I forgot to bring my running shoes. Boy did I miss them! :sad1:

I am always afraid that I'm going to forget my passport, credit cards and health insurance info.

would you consider a scooter? your doc might not want you walking miles and miles on a heel spur

I've done it several times due to back issues-had surgery in 2008. I hated having to ride one!:furious: When you have an invisible disability you get lots of looks, whispers, and the occasional comment! Last year I was finally able to walk at WDW and Universal. It was the first time I was able to walk with my then 8 yr. old DS! :cloud9: I started taking Cymbalta and the chronic back pain went away! pixiedust:
I'll have to wait and see what the next two months brings! :scratchin

I definitely won't rent one from a company-I refuse to load and unload from the buses ever again! That was the worst!:scared1:

Having spurs or foot pain in general sucks, I know I have had problem feet for over 20 yrs so I understand your concerns. A tip is for inflamation is take a frozen water bottle and roll your foot it does help thought it may feel weird and rest when you can. I to am overweight:hug: which doens't help but I am trying to lose too. There is a August Lose Weight thread you are welcome to join if you would like http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=3241732

Thanks! I will have to join!:thumbsup2

I have an excel spreadsheet for all the kids with a column for them to check off when they pack it. I just make adjustments and reprint it each year. When they were little I used pictures for the hard words they couldn't read. They love packing for themselves. They get so excited when i print the sheets. They leave the list on their suitcase and I (mom) goes and checks each thing.

The things that we have forgotten were personal items. One year we forgot of my DDs wax for her braces. A CM at the BC ordered it for us. That was great. But now wax is on her sheet.

One year we forgot my DHs extra pair of eye glasses. One of our kids knocked them off his head and they were broken. Thank God for crazy glue. Now extra glasses is on our list.

We love packing for Disney!

I pack my stuff and the baby's stuff, plus general family stuff (sunscreen, towels, etc). My husband packs his own clothes...sigh :)

I usually make a list and then lose it. It never fails that we forget SOMETHING, but I always say-we're not going to a third world country, so we can buy whatever we really need. On our honeymoon we forgot our camera-of all the most expensive things to have to re-buy!!! So that was a pain, but we bought a new one as soon as we got to Hawaii-couldn't go without one! (And we tend to buy cheap things anyway, specifically because we don't do a good job of remembering/taking care of things :)

We all pack our own, but I sometimes make suggestions.

I only use a packing list for trips over a week. My clothes are kind of like Garanimals, so I can pack lightly.

Once, I forgot my entire makeup bag! I had to buy all new!

I'm not really afraid of forgetting anything since I can buy it there, but I am nervous about leaving my DS (17) home alone for 4 days! I am still debating having him stay at his grandparents, even though he doesn't want to.

I pack everyone e but my DH. He's on his own. Lol.

I always use a list. For....EVERY part of our trip.

I once forgot to pack socks. Luckily it was summer time and I usually wear flip flops anyway so it was no big deal.

Hoping I don't forget something more important one of these days.

QOTD:

Your Fairy Godmother pays your family a visit, and gifts you $500 to use toward your trip. The only stipulation is that you MUST use it for something on your vacation (ie no putting it towards your weekly grocery purchases ;)).

How would you spend it?

- upgrade your resort?

- upgrade your dining plan?

- add on a special tour or "extra"? (if so, name it....BBB, Pirates Cruise, etc.)

- increase the souvenir shopping budget

- add an extra day (or days) to your vacation

- add on another park (Discovery Cove, SeaWorld, Universal, etc.)

- or ________________________________?

I would change our last three days from CSR to AKL savanna view so that we could enjoy the relaxing atmosphere of AKL for a few more days. We absolutely love it there!

Does taking another niece count? If not I would book more extras for my DD and DN that is travelling with us this time. Face painting, hair wrapping, etc

Hi! :wave2: I've been MIA for a few weeks on here due to a lot of personal stuff.. It would really be hard for me to use a $500 gift for something other than our trip right now. My family's had such a financial output recently: replace a car, emergency gallbladder surgery, tests for my daughter, vet bills (our dog got a bulging disk on mother's day).. and now we need to replace our home air conditioner. Uurgh, when will it ever stop?

But for the sake of the exercise, I would use it for a day at Universal Studios. We've never been there and this has been my DD's request.

I think we would add on a tour, probably Wild Africa Trek as DS8 had asked to do this - and I think that's one of the only ones he's old enough to do! Although it's probably a pretty hot tour to take in August :faint: My second choice would be adding on days or possibly La Nouba :goodvibes

And DH FINALLY made his mind up about staying on or off-site: on-site again it is! :cheer2: CSR 8/26-9/2, can we be added to the list on page 1? It'll be our first time staying there and we're all looking forward to it. DH is a bit concerned about the size though, as the only mod we've stayed at is POFQ. While there we visited POR and he was not impressed with the size, but the pool looks awesome at CSR and we know we'll be spending a lot more time there than on our non-summer trips. We'll also have a car this time around so we don't have to worry about the busses; not that we've had problems, but he's not a fan of multiple stops at the resort. Can't wait - getting close to single digits!!

We'll this is a good one :-)

Seeing as how we're already at a moderate, with free dining I wouldn't upgrade.

I would maybe add the pirate and pals cruise or illuminations sparking desert party and increase souvenir budgets lol.

I would definitely add a couple of nights and buy MNSSHP tickets for my family for Sept. 1st. :) I would actually do this if the kids weren't starting school on the Tuesday after labour day.

I would use it to increase our souvenir and cocktail budget. $500 would go a long way on those $10-$15 yummy cocktails! And since this is a trip for just DH and me, the kids would get more souvenirs.
