Official August 2007 thread

My start date changed by a day if you want to change it. We'll be going from 8/26 - 9/3.

We'll be there in August. First time being on-site for us. I am REALLY hoping for free dining. I am very flexible with the dates and am just waiting to see what resort and airfare I can get. I am hoping for 11-12 days.

We're going Aug 11-18. Well, I should say so much we as I am going with my sister's family and our parents. Staying at POFQ unless not available with AP discount.

Count us in. We'll be there Aug 25-Sept 2. I think we're staying at Pop. I think that would be the best value for us this trip. Just my 2 sons and I, maybe my mil. DH decided to take a hunting trip instead this year.:sad2: Wish me luck, I've never had to double team the boys on vacation and for so many days in a row. We are used to a man on man defense.

Congratulations on your 10 year anniversary!! DH and I just celebrated our 10year, and I SO wanted to stay at GF on our upcoming trip to celebrate, but we have his family traveling with us and would have needed 3 or 4 rooms , which would have cost too much!!!
Anyway, I am happy for you and your family.....and enjoy your anniversary vacation!!!!!!!

Thanks!!! We can't wait!!

ETA: Thanks for the list Hogswartdropout! We have changed to the Grand Floridian from CR but the dates ate the same!

Hi!

Had a small change in plans, we were oroginally at POFQ 8/18-8/26 but we switched to AKL!!!! I am so excited, my first time in a Deluxe! and we got Svannah view bunk bed room. woohoo!!!!!

This is our firsttime in the parks in August but since DH is a teacher we can't go during any other "off peak" times. Plus the humidity in PA is really bad in August, so it won;t be much different. Plus this time we are having a relaxing time, not going commando.

I think most August threads end up sharing heat coping strategies, so I thought I'd start.

1.I bought a small fan at the Disney store for $1 on clearance last month. I prefer this little fan to the big ones that have the water. The little ones are much more comfy.

2. a. Be the envy of everyone in line with your very own Misty Mate! You fill it with water and it sprays a fine mist. It has a strap and my DH wears it around his waist. Even when your water gets hot, it still feels awesome.
b. CMs will give you ice for free at the CS stands, so you can put your ice in the misty mate to be truly cool!

3. Cool Max clothing. I have used the tank tops and socks and they are great. I noticed that they now sell Cool Max bras (at least Lane Bryant does)! You can find the items at Target.

4. Stay hydrated!! I bring my Brita water bottle so I can fill up at the drinking fountains. (tho I probably won't need to if we get the free DP!!).

5. Take breaks in the afternoon. It's most crowded then anyway, so go back to the resort and swim and nap.

I have more if you want them!

I agree! I would add to this to bring neck coolers. These were the best things that we took last summer. They worked great! You can check e bay closer to the summer months and you'll get more sellers selling them for more variety, or just google Disney neck coolers and look for some sites that carry them. Also, some people here make them.:thumbsup2

Just wanted to add one in that I've found. I just ordered from them, so can't tell you how they are yet, but seem really reasonably priced. The website is www.sunprotectioncenter.com and they sell t-shirts with the sunscreen built right in. It's supposed to be SPF30 for up to 50 washings and up to 200 hours of sunlight. They have about a zillion colors (including lime green!) and the shirts only cost $13 for adult sizes and $12 for kid sizes, and you get a $3 discount (per shirt) if you order 4 or more, making them just 10 bucks a shirt.
Did you know that you can do this yourself for way cheaper? I use Rit Sun Guard. You can see the info here: http://www.dermadoctor.com/product.asp?productid=476

I usually buy this at Rite Aid near the detergent section. It is with all of the Rit dyes. One box costs about $2-3 and can be added to a whole load of clothes. It says it lasts for about 30 washings. For me, that's fine because I wash my kids' clothes about once a week, making that last about 30 weeks. :laundy: Now, what I do is just wash my kids clothes about once every 4 or 5 months in Rit Sun Guard and this way I get all their clothes protected at different times of the year and for those already protected it just adds another layer of sun protection to it. Hope that makes sense!

Awww, I wanna go back in August again this year. Well, I'm working on it. Hopefully I'll be able to post soon enough with some official dates!

Wow, thanks! I just went online and ordered these. We don't have Rite Aids here, so I checked online at Walmart, CVS and Walgreens and none of them carried it. My mom lives in Michigan and has Rite Aids so I thought of having her buy me some and send them. Then I figured out it was probably just a whole lot easier, and not much more expensive to just order it online! I'll wash all our clothes in them before we go (family of 5 x at least 5 t-shirts & 5 shorts should take a couple boxes right there). If we're there 2 weeks and I wash everything every third day (I'm bring 3 regular shirts and 2 swim shirts), they should still be fine, right? Thanks so much - my kids HATE suntan lotion (which I will force on them as they wiggle) so every little bit helps!

Yep! Everything should be fine! Glad I was able to help someone!

I made all my dining requests today!!!!! Hooray!!!!! Less than 180 days to go!!!!! :woohoo:

I get to make my dining reservations on the 27th! We're crossing our fingers for V&A's!

Ok, hope this doesn't sound to crazy, but I am worried that something will go wrong and we won't get to go to Disney in August. Disney is all I think about and now that I found the DIS I spend a lot of time reading and studying..

Does anyone else worry.. :confused3

Nah. I don't worry. I mean, WDW isn't going anywhere any time soon so if I don't get to go this time, I'll get to go another.

I was finally able to talk DSO into letting me upgrade us from PO-FQ to Wilderness Lodge....woohoo....if I haffta turn 40, at least I can do it at a deluxe. :lmao:
