OFFICIAL April 2012 DISers! 2 months and counting!

If you can swing going to Epcot, I would...maybe a half day on your last day? But if not, I would keep it just like you have it ~ 2 days at MK, and 1 each at DHS and AK. My 6 year old enjoyed Epcot when she was 4 and 5, but I don't think she would have missed it if we hadn't gone. Have a great trip!

Thanks for your input! I would hate for her to miss all the neat stuff for her age at Epcot, but as you say, she won't know what she's missing. (I was hoping to get a peek at the flowers and topiaries too as we've never been there at this time of year;)) Maybe a 1/2 day on our last day wouldn't be so bad...:rolleyes1

Thanks again for your help!

The first thing DD said to me this morning when she got up was "It's MARCH! We're going to Disney THIS MONTH!"

We arrive at MCO at 10:15pm on March 31st, but it counts, right! :)

Still no Mickey Mail. DH is getting tired of me calling him every afternoon when the mail arrives. (He works nights.)

We got our ME packet already and we arrive the same day as you Angie.

My DD's still don't know we're going. They just think we're going to Daytona like we usually do each Spring.

I almost had the big one the other night. I get home from work and find a message from our airline saying our flight was "downgraded due to mechanical, to please call back to make other arrangements!"

I was like :scared1:

So I called and they said that the flight had been "cancelled" and that they needed to put us on a different flight. Well, they didn't have any other flights for the 31st...they were all booked. She said the next earliest flight she could get us on was April 2nd!

I was like :scared1:

I told her NO - we need to be there on the 31st. Whether it was with them or another airline.

After a round of being placed on hold and being offered a round trip ticket per person in our party for our troubles - NO - and being offered 2 round trip tickets per person - NO.

She checks with her "supervisor" and comes back to say. "Sir, you're all set for your flight on the 31st." :scared1:

Me - "What, it isn't cancelled??!?!"

Her - "No, you're set to board the plane. We've guaranteed you seats"

Me - "So everything stays the way it was? We can get on the plane like we were going to??"

Her - "Yes Sir, you're all set."

:yay:

So, obviously they've overbooked this flight and are trying to scare people into calling in so that they can switch them. I'm glad I stood my ground.

Very disappointed that they just didn't tell me upfront that they overbooked it and needed volunteers to switch flights.

So last night, just to be sure, I went on their website to verify my reservation still existed - it does! And just to be sure, I went ahead and shelled out the extra $$ to get pre-assigned seating. Hoping that this would more firmly "guarantee" or seats on the plane!

:confused3

Hahah! I did the same thing, only it was "We're going to Disney next month!" And last night at DD's basketball game one of the parents was handing cupcakes around to celebrate his daughter's birthday. I said, "No thank you, I have to be in a bathing suit in 52 days!" WOOT WOOT!!!! ;) Sooooo excited!!!

I'm trying not to worry about it - because of our arrival time, we're not even going to be able to use the ME tags for our luggage, so it's really not a big deal but it makes it feel more "real"!

My DD's still don't know we're going. They just think we're going to Daytona like we usually do each Spring.

Is this their first trip?

Air travel has become so awful. We're supposed to go to DC next summer with extended family, and I really just want to drive. Of course, I wanted to drive on THIS trip, too, but DH didn't want to.

Our last trip, they moved up our return flights a few weeks before we left, but that was okay. This time around I'm actually hoping they move up our flights THERE because we're getting in so late. Of course, last time that was Airtran and they're famous for changing flights around. I haven't flown Spirit since 2009 and didn't want to this time, either, but we had no other choice.

30 Days!

Can't wait! Made the appt for DD to get prescription sunglasses (she was so miserable last time she bought this horrible tacky red white and blue sunglasses that were big enough to fit over her regular ones. She's like 20/400 in her left eye so she HAS to wear them. Hopefully this will make it easier for her.

Another question - I get cold very, very easily. I've never been to Florida at this time of year - when we went in May of 2010 they said the average temp was going to be mid to high 80's and it was 95 like every day. I'm seeing temp ranges from a low of 60 overnight to highs of like 82-83. I'm worried that I'll be cold during our late nights and early mornings and am seriously considering packing mostly jeans and maybe capris for our trip, but then I worry that I'll get there and they'll have near-record highs again! Has anyone here been in early April before? Is it chilly in the mornings and evenings? I really don't want to bring a change of clothes into the parks, and I'm torn as to how to pack. Any advice?

That just sounds so annoying. Why would they lie and say the flight is cancelled? Just sounds really flaky. Oh well, at least you are guaranteed to be on that flight now!

Can't wait!?

My DD's have been to MK and EP before - but only on one day trips. We would drive down from Daytona.

So this is our first week spent there and a first time, obviously, staying onsite! :cool1:

I always pack a pair of jeans and never wear them. It might be b/c where I live 70 degrees feels so warm. It has always been low to mid 80s every year we've gone in April. I hope I'm not jinxing myself. I usually wear a sweatshirt at night and early morning but that's just me my DH and the boys don't.
M
y DH sent me an email from work yesterday with the temps for the next few days- all mid 80s. He asked if I was ready to move to FL yet? I told him that was cruel!!

The weather will be AWESOME!!!!!!:yay:

so annoying about the airlines ~ I'm glad you stood your ground, too! I can't believe they were asking you to take a flight 2 days later! Hello, don't they know hom much planning goes into a disney vacation?!

As far as the weather, I will probably take a pair of jeans and a light jacket. We plan on taking afternoon breaks. So I might wear them during the second half of the day. I"d rather have them just to be safe, at least for the 2 nights we are planning evening EMHs.

I was just coming in to ask about the weather and what to pack.
Our first trip was in late September. My Canadian pea brain would not accept that we didn't need warm clothes for the evening.:rotfl: It didn't matter what everyone told me.. I packed all kind of "just in case" stuff. Well of course we didn't need any of it.
Fine and Dandy when you're flying Southwest and your bags are free.

Four family trips later and no more free bags? I pack LIGHT. I do laundry one day while we're there. It's never really a problem because I just do it one afternoon while hanging out at the pool.

So long story short. I will pack one light sweatshirt for the evenings for each of us and one thin pair of pants. But mark my words. It all goes into 2 suitcases for the four of us or it doesn't come. I've simplified the packing and I'm not going back to the caravan that we used to look like on arrival:rotfl:

This would have driven me insane! I'm so glad everything worked out but they never should have misrepresented the situation that way.

I know exactly where you're coming from. Before I put something in my mouth I ask myself this question: Do I really want to eat this given that I'm going to be in a picture with Jasmine in less than two months?

At this time of year I bring a light sweater to wear in the morning and evenings. I get cold too.

oh my gosh Scott2996!!! That is AWEFUL!!! I think i would have cried and then when they said ok it's guaranteed i would have blown up at them for being so mean!!! Now i know to push and not take them too seriously right away.

As for clothing i will pack one light sweater for each of us and probably a yoga jacket for me. For pants just one pair of jeans b/c they go with EVERYTHING :) then it'll be mostly shorts and maybe 2 capris. i always coordinate my clothes about 2 - 3 weeks before we leave to see what I have and what to take so it all matches without having to take too many things.

Hello Everyone!
I am new here but thought I would jump in!
Myself, my husband and our daughters (12 and 3) are going to be heading to Disney in April!
We are flying out of NJ on April 10th and leaving Florida on the 17th
Staying in one of the new Royal rooms at Port Orleans
The girls are scheduled to go to the bippity boppity boutique in the Castle and that night we will be experiencing Cinderellas royal table for dinner!
This is not my first Disney go round, and my oldest daughter was there once(but she doesn't remember). This is my husbands dream come true...he has been dying to go to Disney World since he was 10! And we are excited to see the reaction of our youngest daughter who is OBSESSED with everything Disney.
The best part is our girls have NO CLUE that we are going! We are going to surprise them on Easter Sunday with a special easter "basket" filled with goodies for the plane and disney stuff. Even some of their easter eggs will have Disney Dollars in them! I have to say it is driving us INSANE that they don't know because the hubs and I are SOOOOO excited!

I also agree about skipping Epcot if you are limited on time. While it does have a lot to offer, my kids (who are around your GDs age) would pick to skip Epcot out of the 4 parks.

But the extra 1/2 day in a park is always a good idea. We usually do that too.

Have fun taking your grand daughter! :goodvibes
