Official 2024 Universal Studios HHN 33 Thread

Some thoughts about HHN from someone who attended for the first time. I was there Saturday, 8/31 and Sunday 9/1. I'd have preferred not to be there opening weekend/labor day weekend, but this was the only 3-day weekend I have while the event is running.

First, I'd highly recommend having some way to access Express Lines. The standby lines were massive and unlike anything I've ever seen before. Luckily I have an AAP, as there is no way I'd have been able to do any of the houses without it. The express lines moved pretty quickly and none of the waits were difficult with express line access.

The scare zones were interesting. Duality of fear was kind of a dud and I couldn't even really tell where the scare zone was, but the others were fun, especially after it got dark! I really liked Demon Queens and Torture Faire - I walked through both of these multiple times and they were fun to just hang out in.

The food was hit or miss. It took awhile to figure out where all of the booths were, as they were scattered throughout the park and not always right next to the house they were connected to. I wish I had more nights there so I could have tried more of the food. I got to experiences 3 or 4 things each night. My favorite was the twisted tator, and least favorite was the red velvet cake pop, which I ended up throwing away after two bites.

The event is LOUD. It starts off quieter at the beginning and slowly ramps up as it gets dark. I get sensory overload and was able to manage for a couple of hours with ear plugs/headphones/hat combo, but had to leave each night by around 9:30/10:00 pm. If you have difficulty with loud music, don't go anywhere near the MIB/World Expo area at night - the Nightmare Fuel-Nocturnal Circus show is extremely loud. I had the misfortune of exiting the Bloodlines/Goblins tents while the show was going on, and I basically ran 3/4 of the way across the park before it was finally quiet enough for me to slow down :/ That entire end of the park is pretty much impossible for someone with noise sensitivity to be in while the show is ongoing.

I was able to do everything I wanted in the 2 nights, even with leaving around 9:30ish. I did not do stay and scream. I think it helped that I went in with realistic expectations, and knew ahead of time what my must-dos were and what I was willing to skip. I did 6 unique houses, and then repeated 2 of them. My favorite was Universal Monsters: Eternal Bloodlines, followed by Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire. All of the houses had interesting theming and were fun to go through. I also very much enjoyed seeing the death eaters in Diagon Alley, and I got chosen to duel!

I can't believe I didn't even know HHN existed until a few months ago. It is an amazing event and most definitely worth a trip to Orlando to experience!

want to mention, water bottles should be sealed to avoid issues.

I've seen security during HHN shake bottles (bubbles smaller & fizzy in liquor)

Maybe you'd have to be there to envision this

You don't have to walk all the way out & back in for the 2nd house?

Missing something, woukd that not be cutting the existing wait line?
Yeah. The two new tents are a great setup .. so no walking all the way out and then back in

So for those asking about express...it's working well. Three nights so far and no issues. Last night was pretty busy since it was Friday. I wandered in at 7 and just went around the park from the start. Did all 10 and left at 10:30.

Insidious is good...mostly because it's the only fully staffed house. Also several of the SAs have triple scares so they target the same people who react to them. If all the houses were fully staffed they would all be really good. They are hit or miss.

All the other houses are understaffed. I've done all the houses 3 or 4 times and lots of missing key SAs especially if you go early. I also did the 6 house behind the scenes and got confirmation they are understaffed.

The Scarezones are just ok. The SAs on stage at the fair are really good..but other than that nothing memorable.

I'll wait till later in the event to talk more about the houses themselves.

The food is very busy. Have not tried Anything other than the fish and chips...it's very good. Not sure it's $17 good but the batter was very light and crispy. I was impressed.

As always avoid the premade drinks...lots of options to have the bartenders mix drinks..lines are long though so I've not had any yet.

So similar experience with express on Sunday night. Three hours for all the houses. I did stay and scream just to check it out...took about an hour to do insidious...many people were using their express immediately so was a long wait to get in without it.

Also just to mention it if you have access to the Visa lounge that it open from 5 to 7 for HHN so you can hang out there until the park officially opens. Does not get you into any houses but if you just want to hang out they have free water, breakfast bars and baked lays chips. I may try it Wednesday night just to see what it's like.

Also on Sunday there were a lot less SAs in the houses...some key ones missing..and with the rain every night not a lot going on in the scare zones. It was busy though so not sure why so many missing SAs.

What's everyone's favorite budget hotel that good for ubering to HHN? I really don't want to miss out, but I have to do a super budget version of HHN this year if I want it to happen. I'm planning on flying down Saturday morning and home Sunday or Monday morning (if I do Monday morning I'd do HHN both nights, but of course that really increases the cost of the trip) so I'm not going to shell out to stay on property this year. I'd really love somewhere with a pool/hot tub. Thanks!!

I would honestly still look into dockside/Surfside or even cabana bay. Sometimes those prices are not much higher than hotels in that area. It's been a while but I believe a lot of the hotels on the idrive area have various hidden fees (like resort fee) that uo hotels don't have

Got this offer from USH re a flash sale, interesting

Could be people are tightening their discretionary spending

Except ghoul juice 😉.. That one is king
It does seem popular. Thankfully, decent booze but, read it's premix

How sweet is it? See that one at least has bitters in it to possibly tame it down

Was reported they again cast majority of fresh new faces vs veterans of the event

Once again, good amount of them found they didn't have the right stuff :rolleyes1& replacements should be on tap sooner vs later

I understand when they need a certain physical type for a role, however, don't understand why they've continued to not strive to rehire those with experience

FYI. Dockside and Surfside are much less for Sunday night. Friday and Saturday are much more expensive than other nights. So going Sunday Monday or even Wednesday to Friday can be much less expensive.

Also the buses for dockside run till after HHN. You will not get that with the partner hotels as far as I know. I priced out Marriott and Hilton in the past since I have status with them...still not worth it IMO. Don't want to deal with Uber at end of HHN night. The buses are really good

I'm sure that rain and going to 2 am every day makes it even harder to get people and keep them I don't blame the SAs. Universal needs to pay enough to attract and keep people. This event is a cash cow and they need to do it right. As I seem to say every year this may be my last... Of course that depends on Epic as well and what the tickets are like for that

Okay... really dumb question here.

There are plenty of restrooms open during HHN right? I have a medical condition that is flaring up so bathroom access is always on my mind. One of the reasons we have express passes because super long lines are difficult.

Yes. Every bathroom that's in the park is open

And I think I've used them all during the course of the night:rotfl:Downing a ton of water and a few other adult liquids. :woohoo:

Hey...maybe I could be one of those bloggers/influencers - only I'd be reviewing theme park bathrooms: wait times, AC levels, which ones are coolest theme, nicest condition, etc.

Unfortunately I'm also constrained by PTO. I'm trying to squeeze this in around some things we've had planned for a long time (a week off in October and in December). That's why it's been tricky to make it happen - flights & hotels are so much more on the weekend. :/
