Official 2016 Princess Half Marathon Thread

I just signed up for my first Half Marathon today and I'm so scared. But I figured my first shot at something like this would be infinitely more fun if it's at Disney World! Talk about a reason to train! And my dad was the only one who wanted to run with me, so it's the two of us. He's a little worried that he will be one of the only guys running it, but he decided to run it with me to support me! If anyone has any tips or tricks, let me know.

I'm hoping for a PR at this race. My PR right now is 2:26, my fastest runDisney is 2:42. I need to add more hill training into this one, those ramps near the end the last two races have been killer.

Hi everyone - congrats to all who got to register today! I was able to register myself for the GSC earlier through the DVC site but today was crazy trying to register my sister and friend for their first 10K and Disney races. Really want to thank those that posted the links when we were all having issues getting onto the sites. I managed to get both in for their races. So happy!!!

Quick question - have anyone here ever done the race retreat on 1/2 marathon day? If yes, did you think it was worth it? Thanks.

it's hitting me now that by signing up for my first GSC, I've also signed up for my first half-marathon (which will also be my birthday - how fitting)! That's both exciting & nerve-wracking! I've been training and doing races so come February I'll be ready...but WHOA! Thankfully this is a great support system to help us through!

I'm thinking about this as well!

Also, breakfast. My mom was curious about that. I plan on booking Akershus for my post-half meal so I don't really care about breakfast.

Yay! Super exciting! :)

Biggest tip: TRAIN TRAIN TRAIN. Make sure that you are prepared! I think that's the biggest mistake people make with Disney races - yes, they are fun and yes, they are magical, but you still signed up to cover 13.1 miles. Pixie dust alone is not enough!

Other tips:
- Get fitted for running shoes if you don't have them already
- Run a 10K at home to use as proof of time for coralling (has to be submitted by November 17)
- PACK LAYERS - both for running and for throwaway clothes (there were VERY cold temperatures this year for Princess Weekend!)
- Practice running in your running outfit ahead of time
- Nail down your race nutrition during training, and...

DON'T FORGET YOUR CAMERA! :)

I couldn't have said this better! This is great advice with both the Training aspect, the prepared for different types of weather, get great sneakers & have fun! I can't wait for a repeat of this next year!

I just popped into this thread to see how my fellow runners fared with registration. I am so, SO happy that it looks like everyone who wanted to get in did so! Yay!!!

So I was so wildly nervous during registration I shakily clicked to buy on "princess half marathon merchandise bundle" and now I can't even remember what that was lol! I remember a tumbler and something else? .... If anyone bought this in years past, could you tell me what that consisted of?

Thank you to everyone who posted links and answered questions today. the amount of anxiety I had going into this was unreal! Thanks to you I was able to book the 10K and 5 K for Dh and I. Yes, I am doing both!!! HOLY CRAP, what was ai thinking?? I was in the moment I think! We decided to let our dd 15 and ds 9 do the 5K too, so we will run as a family! Our toddler will even do the diaper dash! With that said, expect even more questions from me!

Are the "in training" shirts true to size?

They are tech fabric, so while I don't know the answer about the sizing, at least remember that they aren't cotton.

if my sister ends up not having class on Thursdays that semester and if I get a new job that allows me to pay for 2 registrations, 2 people's flights, and a hotel room ... we'll register for the 5K through a travel agent.

I think the TAs have to sell with the hotel room, so at least it'll be a bundled thing. :)

Hahaha. This is too true. But the shirts are just so darn cute and inspiring (to me).

They are. If they were 26.95 they would be cuter to me. Their price point, however, makes them a total negativo for me. Bugs me. They already have us, come on, throw us a bone here.

Pixie dust alone is not enough!

SO true.

- Practice running in your running outfit ahead of time

Yes. That's a hard one for those who run in costumes, but you don't want your first time running in something funky to be ON race day!

- Nail down your race nutrition during training, and...

Double triple yes.

I wish the training shirts were tank tops, I find them more comfortable to run in than tshirts :(

Great point and idea. I agree.

Quick question - have anyone here ever done the race retreat on 1/2 marathon day? If yes, did you think it was worth it? Thanks.

I did it for the January Half in 2014. While I appreciated the hot food at the end (I had Disney's patented gross scrambled eggs saved by hot sauce, plus coffee and little chocolate muffins) and the place to sit, it wasn't a "temperature controlled' environment like they had said it was (sure, warmER than outside, but still cold as anything) and by the end of the retreat there were men using the women's portapotty area unapologetically and strangely. (I was so confused) It's hard to call it worth $120, though it IS worth *something*. I was running totally alone and wanted food in my belly before I went back to the hotel room. My aunt (who was watching my son) questions this whole running thing anyway, and I did NOT need her to see me all woozy and post-half-sick.

Anyone have any info on the Pasta Party? How quickly does it sell out? Worth it? What kids of character experiences?

I've never done the race retreat, but I sure wish I had gotten it this year! At least for the 5K, when it was 30F outside and I was frreeeeeeezzing my butt off. They had put out a few sad little heat lamps for people to crowd around, but those died quickly. The morning of the Half was just perfect running temps for me, so I didn't think it was necessary.

The merch bundle includes a visor, a tumbler, and a magnet for $49.95. The pin bundle includes the 3 pins for the GSC, PHM, and 10K for $44.95.

Did anyone happen to remember pricing for the retreat? I wanna update Post #1, but I can't find it anywhere.

My first half was the Wine and Dine in 2011. Since then I have run 14 half marathons(3 Disney) 1 full(Disney). My dad ran the Tink half with me in 2014 and there were about 1000 men in the race so your dad wont be alone.

As advice we love the Galloway running method and it is great on a Disney course. I would also suggest running a local 10k to get a official time to summit for a corral so you aren't stuck in the back if you don't want to be there.

I totally bought one of the training shirts. :hyper:

I'm a sucker.

I bought this one...but in V-neck.
