Official 2016 Princess Half Marathon Thread

Ugggg! Woke up with severe side pain in Friday night. I hadn't felt will all day, so decided nit to take ahh chances. Hours later I'm getting an emergency appendectomy, but can it be routine? Nope. I get heavy bleeding and infection contamination. I'll be in the hospital for at least 3 days, and my training is set back I don't know how far. :scared:

So I bit the bullet and signed up for the half marathon during the passholder presale and I found out this morning that my training partner has now bailed on me. This is my first half marathon and she was the one who convinced me to do in the first place. Not that I'm not still excited, but I am now a little disappointed.

So to make a long story short, if there is anyone in the Miami/Ft. Lauderdale area or actually anywhere who is looking for a virtual training partner, PM me. I think this would be more fun to do with someone else.

She isn't even going to train with you? Ugh!

Yikes.

Galloway's training schedule hasn't even started yet so you'll be ok. Just rest and heal thoroughly.

I'm so sorry. You have plenty of time for training. Try not to worry about that and just take care of yourself.

Glad you're okay!! Hope you have a safe recovery!

You're got tons of time to train!

Thanks for all the good wishes! As for training I know I have time to get ready for this, but I have other runs scheduled... a 5k in 4 weeks, a 10k in 10 weeks, and star wars half a full month before the GSC.

Oh no! I hope you have a speedy recovery!

Quick question about some of the commemorative gear sold during registration. Are the commemorative shirts the "I did it!" shirts, or are those sold at the expo? Also, how do the shirts typically run--particularly the women's items? I've seen the size chart, but I'm petite and curvy. I tend to shy away from buying things I can't try on. With races it can't be avoided, so are they pretty good about letting you switch out shirts if you find they're too loose/snug?

I did it shirts are sold at the expo. I have never seen a commemorative shirt, so I'm not sure what that is. I believe the pins are the same, but the jacket is also different.

Hello all--
Sorry to continue to ask questions about this, but what is the best type of race to use for a POT? I'm having a hard time finding 10Ks that aren't "virtual races" around Boston this fall and am not sure where else to look:confused3 I'm starting to wonder if it's just easier to try and get in one of the faster no POT-needed corrals? Help!

Also, does anyone know what character their costume will be yet? Curious to hear what everyone has to say:goodvibes

It has to be AT LEAST a 10K. You could use a 10-miler, 15K or half marathon is one of those is easier to find.

Costumes: I was thinking Minnie (repeating an outfit I've already used) and Daisy. Need to come up with a third. :) How about you?
ETA: Ooh, Mickey might be my third. :)

I was looking at a map and it looks like normally to get to the Wide World of Sports one would have to get to either one of the All Stars, Pop, or Caribbean Beach and take a bus to WWOS. With that being a popular destination on race weekends, are there more buses to get there from other places or still the normal bus routes? If normal routes is the case, do you who have done this before take the bus or did you go with a cab? Or any other suggestions to get to the Expo?

For each race weekend, the host hotels (which for this weekend is all of them) have special buses to the expo - there will be a sign somewhere for race weekend transportation, and that's where you'll catch your bus to the expo and to the races.

The race weekend buses are different than the usual Disney Transport buses, too. I think this year they were MEARS buses, if I'm not mistaken. And they usually have their own pick-up/drop-off location that is separate from the Disney Transport buses that take you to the parks & DTD. They'll have a sandwich board sign out front that'll indicate where the race bus picks up/drops off, and the bus will have a little placard in the front window that indicates that it's a PHM Weekend bus, with a number (or letter, I can't remember) that indicates which resort it is assigned to. At the ESPN WWoS complex and the parking lot at Epcot on race day, the parking lot area where the buses are will have each area assigned to each resort, designated by the bus numbers/letters.

What are the hours for the Expo? Trying to look at flights and my times are seriously limited. I might end up coming in late Wednesday night at this point.

Oh No! Hope you heal quickly. The training will happen. The upcoming races you have may be a bit slower than you hoped, but you still have tons of time for Star Wars and PHM. And plenty of time to get a 10k still:)

For POT a USATF certified race is the gold standard. However, I and others have reported using non-certified races to get a POT. I was injured last year and finding a certified race in the 2 weeks between when I was cleared to run again and the deadline when POT was due was tough because I had family commitments on those weekends as well. What you want to be sure is that the race you are looking at a has an official timekeeping system, and that they post results online. Once you are done and the results are posted you go to the runDisney website and enter your information including a link to the official results.

What do you consider around Boston? Within an hour of the city? The website http://runningintheusa.com is where I find my races. You click on a map to indicate the state or states you are interested in, then I select 10k specifically to narrow it down. I'm in Worcester County and I can find a 10k at least 3x a month from now until November that would be within a reasonable driving distance for me. Depending where you live, southern NH, RI or other surrounding states also make it fairly easy to find something that will work. One caveat, try to do some research on the races you are considering before you sign up to see how the course compares to your training. I did a 10k in Bedford Ma at the VA hospital around veterans day, and the course was super hilly, and I run on hills all the time. I had looked at the course profile and thought it looked similar to the hills I train on, but when I got home and looked at the Garmin data I had climbed twice the elevation as normal! A second website I have used is http://www.nerunner.com
