Official 2016 Princess Half Marathon Thread

If you think 26.2 is bad, you should see what people look like after running downhill for 56. It took me at least four days before I could walk without looking like a 95-year old. My quads have never been so sore.
Uh no, I honestly can't even imagine that! With just my half, I am hobbling like a 95 year old! Seriously, I have never been this sore in my life, and this is my 6th half marathon I've done...

.... which leads me to a question for y'all. When you are very sore after running long distances, what is the best things to do? I've read conflicting advice online. Some say walk as much as you can, and even run if you can stand it while you sore in the days after your run. Others say, give your muscles time to recover and wait a few days. Part of my problem is immediatley after the race I didn't do what I should have (walk around for a while and stretch, because I had to book it out of there). I have been taking hot baths with epson salt and rolling as much as I can stand.

I use an ice bath as soon after the run as possible. Lots of walking helps too, even if it is slow.

As torturous as this sounds, it is probably the best method for soothing sore muscles I've ever found, especially at WDW races. Even if it's just for a brief few minutes, it does wonders for sore muscles. After this year's Frozen PHM weekend, I spent some time in the pool to soothe my muscles, even though I was usually the only one since it was still so cold outside! People must have thought I was nutso, but I didn't care.

I agree with this. The first thing I do when I check into my hotel is start hoarding ice in my DVC villa freezer ;) I do the ice bath ASAP after both the 10k and half. I also wear compression socks, and walk as much as possible, albeit slowly. After my first half in 2014 my family thought I was nuts when I opted to walk from BLT to MK instead of the monorail, but honestly, I think for me, staying moving is very important. I've even adopted it to training in general. I now walk a minimum of a mile at he end of every long run in training. And I've noticed less soreness in general. I do not ice after regular long runs, just races.

The "keep moving" is so correct. Even getting out of my car to drive home from where I do my longer runs, which is about a 10-20 minute drive is torcher on my legs. I get out of the car and look like I am learning to walk again.

The ice helps a ton too.

I just got an email that Southwest is having a sale. My return flight had dropped in price by about $60! I had booked it on points so I re-booked and got about 4,000 points back. :)

That's fantastic! I'm waiting for my recent trip points to be added to my jetblue account so I can book my flights. I really want to be done stalking the page & the flight prices and just get the flights booked! :)

I can only help with night races, it seems LOL. For TOT 2013 we walked around the party for quite awhile, then when we got "home" I took a hot bath (fell asleep! eek!), used arnica on my muscles, and went to sleep. I was sore the next day, but not horribly. For last year's W&D we didn't walk around more than needed to get our gear bags, get our beer, go to the bathrooms, and stand (and stand and stand) in line for the bus in the cold rain. When we got "home" we soaked our lower legs in the big SSR one-bedroom tub and slept. Next morning forced ourselves out of beds and went to AK. We hurt so much! Then right around 1pm we both realized we weren't hurting as much, could stand up straighter, and it all felt sooo much better. So moving is great.

Yesterday I did a 10K, and while my time wasn't much better than last year, it was my first event trying out the 1:1 ratio. Since I'm focusing on actually *walking* during the walk portions, not power-walking, that means my run portions were faster than ever before. So I pushed myself during those portions. Then I had about half a mile to walk to get to my car. Then I took a kick-rear yoga class. And while last night I hurt a bit (mainly in my back) I'm doing well today. Doesn't really compare to the Half, but it's something.

I personally don't do ice as a general rule; inflammation has a purpose, and I personally don't want to reduce the inflammation in my body in order to be able to do more. The hot soaks are because it feels good (ice cannot be said to feel GOOD). If I have to hobble, I hobble. :)

So here is a question for you pros... I have a 1 mile fun run next weekend and then a 5k on the 3rd of October. Should I change up anything in my 10k training? I normally run Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Hey guys! My friend and I did our 10k which is the one we planned to use for time. The race was supposed to be chip timed (as advertised) but it was gun timed and since we were in the back (as we are turtles) we lost a good minute or two. A part of me wants to email them but I don't really want to make any waves especially because it doesn't matter that much as we're still under the 16:00 mile required by Disney. We ended at 1:31:43 according to the official time but with the minute or two delay I came in right where I was aiming for. I actually got to try intervals since my running partner does a run-walk interval because it's better on her bad knee. Other than that the course smelled like peaches part of the way and grapes another part (we ran through vineyards and orchards) and we got wine at the end so it was a successful day overall!

This was also my first 10k and despite the slow pace I could have gone another mile or two which gives my confidence that I'm on the right track. Next weekend is a 5k color run to support the tiny school I went to for the majority of my childhood.

Is it possible to buy another registrant's entry if they cannot attend, sort of like a transfer? Any help on the topic is greatly appreciated! I would really like to get in to this race!

Legally, no. You can try to contact Travel Agents or Charity Providers and see if you can get a bib that way.

As @Ariel484 said, it's not officially allowed by Disney. That said, there's a guy named Craig who has a list of sorts where people go to buy and sell all kinds of goods and services. Not saying this is the right thing to do, just that it does happen.

I'm pretty excited to finish today's run! 3.65km in 33 minutes. I had a 15 minute run and I thought I would die going into it. I was shocked when I looked at my phone and only had a minute left. I could have kept going but I didn't. The second interval of ten minutes running was a little more difficult. I had to stop a few times to catch my breath but I did it!

Isn't that the best feeling? "I could have run more..." love when that happens. :)

Hey guys, I'm a bit concerned about submitting my PoT. The race I ran was through racemine and the way the results page is set up you can't directly link an individual's results. Will trackshack bother to look for my last name or will they just put me in the last corral to avoid having to search?
