Official 2016 5th Anniversary Tinker Bell Half Marathon Weekend!

I'll be booking my hotel in the next few weeks. Anyone hear anything good or bad about Desert Inn? It's on the top of my list right now but I'm not sure yet.

I'm also waiting on the shipping on my first Garmin watch. I'm so excited to not have to run with my phone! I keep window shopping cold weather gear though. I'm not looking forward to those prices at all.
Which Garmin watch did you get? I have a VivoActive coming today. :)
No pink stuff, just the generic shirt and pin. For the life of me I still don't get why there isn't more C2C merch. They make a killing in regular race stuff, this would just add to their profits.
Darn! I was hoping there would be at least a pink short-sleeved shirt. :( I'm with you, I don't know why they don't have more stuff. I was disappointed that there wasn't a hoodie at the DL expo this year...I swear I have seen them in the past...:confused3

I luuuuurve my VivoActive! I hope you feel the same way!

And I'm with you on the pink shirt disappointment. Maybe they will have a pink hat? I'm not getting my hopes up.

I hope so too! I found it for $149...really good deal so hopefully it'll work out for me. I do love my Forerunner 220 though...but I need something to track my steps for work and normally I wear my FitBit and FR220 on the same wrist when I run. Would be nice to have all of the capability in one watch,

Yeah, their lack of C2C stuff was really surprising to me. Obviously they know how many people want to cross C2C off of their bucket lists, so why not capitalize on that? :confused3

I will warn you on the steps thing - Viv (that's what I call my watch) can get pretty passive-aggressive on telling me to "Move!", even after I've clearly hit my step goal for the day. It's like "listen, lady - I'm at 15 miles so far. How much more do you want from me??"

The notifications thing was a big game-changer for me. I like to see txts and emails without having to pull my phone out of wherever it is. Now I only have to do that when I want to respond.

Yeah, I read about that. I hope there's a way to turn that off...?

I don't have a daily goal in mind, per say, but if I track 100,000 steps each month I sizable discount on my health insurance, so I just need them recorded. :thumbsup2

Yes! My FitBit does this a teeny tiny bit - just buzzes when I get a phone call. That's not something I thought I ever needed, but I always keep my ringer off at work so it's been super helpful. It'll be ever better when the Vivofit does it with text messages.

Mostly I hope there's not some sort of functionality that my 220 has that the Vivoactive doesn't that I will really miss. I know the Vivoactive doesn't let you program in workouts or something, but I don't do that with the 220 anyway. Mostly I just need to see average and current lap pace, distance and time. I'll be happy with that.

I don't know what your workouts are like per se, but I have mine set up for intervals, when I need to turn around during a longer run and then also pacing alerts.

And you can adjust all of the data screens during a workout, so you can make sure there are readout fields for all the information you need.

Scored a new Garmin 620 on BF. I wanted the newest model 630 but no great savings on that model. I liked the idea of tracking my steps but I don't want to be interrupted while I'm out on a run with notifications email etc. So guess 620 is OK I currently have a 610 love it. I use my phone to track my steps it is always with me.
I too wish there was some pink shirts for C2C that would be so cool.

Right now I'm just doing easy and long runs with no walk breaks. Eventually I'll start doing speed intervals (10x400m repeats or whatever), but I was planning on doing those on the treadmill anyway so the fact that the watch can't handle my setting up a workout like that ahead of time isn't a big deal for me. My first-ever Garmin watch was a 305 and I was able to set up workouts on my computer and transfer them to the watch, and then when I had the watch on it already had the workout programmed in. I think the VivoActive can't do that. In reviews I was reading people were saying that the lack of that function was a total deal breaker (the other complaint I saw was the screen was dim indoors...what do you think?).

The pacing alert thing is interesting, I may actually need that!

Okay, good. I can do that on my 220...one screen has my current average pace, time and distance. If I scroll down to the next screen it has the lap pace, lap time and lap distance. I'd like that same functionality in the VA and it sounds like I'll get that. :)

Good deal! :)

I just looked at the VivoActive is back up to $250! Glad I took the plunge when I did.

A forerunner 10. I really just wanted to do my intervals without my phone because I hate running with my phone. I dont really care about the GPSing or the calories because I map my miles out before I go. It was a cute color and the right price so I was all over it. It was smaller than the other ones too and I liked that.

You'll love having the watch. So much more freedom, and like you said, it's really nice to not have to run with the phone.

I have the 10. It's great for the intervals.
I do have problems with the GPS sometimes, but if you already map out your miles, you'll be fine. If it can't find GPS, you can use it in a "timer only" mode, which is perfect for intervals.

This is what I've had and it works perfectly for me. Does what I need it to do.

I ran a 10k turkey trot on Thursday and and PR'd by over 4 minutes! Super excited about my new proof of time for Disney! It bumped up my expected finish time by 8 minutes vs my old proof of time!

My family has stayed there about 3 times for our vacations. Its SUPER close to the pedestrian entrance! Like almost as close as you can get. I think Park Vue Inn and BW Park Place Inn are the only two that are closer. Parking is tight but wasn't an issue for us cause we dont move our car once we're parked. They have valet now (no extra charge) so that makes it a bit easier. Every time we stayed there our room had a view of the fireworks. Rooms were always very very clean. I've heard others say they think the beds are too hard but no one in my family every said that and we sometimes traveled with a total of 11 people. They have an indoor pool which can be a plus or a negative depending on how you look at it. When we stayed there the breakfast was pretty basic; cheerios and one other type of cereal, pastries, bead and a toaster to make toast, whole fruit (either apples or oranges), coffee, tea, juice. I would definitely stay there on a race weekend if the price was right!

Thank you @Keels and @KIM33 and @kirstie101 ! ! I think that helped solidify my choice for Desert as my hotel. I just have to wait for my boss to get me my rewards from work to book!

I wish we could already make restaurant ADRs. Such a #FirstWorldProblem.

The location really can't be beat! I'm staying at the Fairfield on Wednesday and Thursday nights before moving on property so I think you've made a great decision!

I've just never been out there and on property isn't an option cost wise so its great to hear my gut instinct was the right call.

Now to worry about transportation between LAX. I'm not sure if I'm going with the disney transportation or not.

I've used Super Shuttle and I much preferred it to the Resort Express. Super Shuttle is essentially "on-demand" whereas the Resort Express is scheduled. It will take you a minimum of an hour to get from LAX (on a good day), and more like 90-120 minutes to get from LAX to your hotel on average - between traffic and stops.

I've got our hotel rooms, but I won't figure out the rest of the logistics stuff until April, probably. It's going to depend on if the husband goes to the Marina del Ray office before or after race weekend. Right now, the plan is before - so I'll fly out with him the Sunday before race weekend, spend a couple days at the beach and then he'll drop me off at LAX and I'll take a shuttle to Anaheim (there's no point in him driving me roundtrip - that's potentially three hours of his day wasted), and then he'll drive down to Anaheim to stay for good on either Friday night or Saturday morning.

Another vote for SuperShuttle. It's not perfect (you end up waiting a bit since you share rides...in my case I was the last pick-up on the route from the airport, so I had a 20-30 minute wait...whereas the first pick-up had been in the shuttle for awhile at that point), but for the price you really can't beat it.

I've taken the Disneyland Express twice (both times staying at a good neighbor hotel) and I wasn't impressed. You often have to wait a while for it. The first time I took it they dropped us off at our hotel, but the last time we had to switch buses at DLH .. and our driver was kind of a jerk about it.

Next trip my plan is to try SuperShuttle.
