Official 2015 Disneyland Half Marathon Thread.

From the way the info on the site is worded (i.e. "automatically entered"), it would seem anyone doing a race on both coasts should be set to go regardless, but there was an option in this year's Double Dare registration for Coast to Coast. Copied and pasted from my registration screen print: "Are you participating in the Coast to Coast Race Challenge? Yes".

Point being, it may still be worth following up again to make sure.
You're right! Just looked at a screen shot of my confirmation and it was there. :)

I was definitely getting that confused with Proof of Time - I knew there was something they hadn't asked for at registration. PoT is what it was.

Darn my foot has a problem! I did a run 2 weeks ago over on Vancouver Island didn't realize part of the run was on gravel roads. I wore the wrong shoes! I was entered for the half and the course looped it self I did 10km and pulled off the course. I was sliding on the gravel rolling hills I walked every hill my feet could feel every stone. I ended up with bruised feet. All the blue and yellow left my feet have been ouchy but the one just have not been getting better. On Wednesday did my 7 miler it was supposed to be at the MM not the case for me. Came home and went to Dr. ,he thinks I have a hair line fracture. Went for x-ray but he said it probably wouldn't show anything. Yesterday I went to my naturopath and he gave me oezone injections in my foot. I looking for quickest fix. I have not time for this! The thing that came out of all of this is , if I am going to a race I have never been to I will email them to ask if there are different surfaces. I would have never gone if I would have known about the gravel footing. Very frustrated!

You definitely want to start your carb loading during the week. Eating a huge bowl of pasta the night before the race is only going make your stomach feel full the next morning. Adding extra carbs in small amounts for the 3-4 days before a race is a better way to get your carb loading done. You should also have a big pancake breakfast the day before the race. Those carbs will be digested, stored, and ready to be used 24 hours later.

Yeah I really can't imagine running on a belly full of pasta! Great idea to carb-load at brekky the day before.

Finally decided on a training plan for fall marathon(s). Leaning towards committing to Atlantic City (10/18) and/or Richmond (11/14)and/or/and OBX (11/8).
The plan starts this Monday and it will be a big step up from my previous training plans--more mileage and faster pace. Luckily the schedule works out perfect for DL half weekend--just an easy 10 miler which I will stretch into an easier 13.1 miler!! More time for photo ops!

That would work out great!

I'm in for the DDD this year! I completed my first Marathon at WDW in January, so I'll be getting my Coast to Coast, as well.
My wife and I are staying at the Howard Johnson. Does anyone have any experience with that hotel? Is it a good spot for a race weekend?

Thanks!

We stayed at the HoJo one year, for just one night before heading to the Peacock Suites (a gift from my grandparents on their timeshare, otherwise I wouldn't stay there - too far!). Because the rest of our week was free, we splurged on a park view room, and requested a high floor. We got a room on the top floor, and had a great view of the fireworks from our balcony. The hotel itself was nice, rooms were good, we had good service, and it is just a short walk to the parks. The only reason why we haven't stayed again is because it's not usually within our budget. I'd estimate about a 25 minute walk to the race precinct. You won't get much closer unless you stay onsite (we stayed at Desert Inn & Suites last year, which was about a 20 minute walk).

Oh no! Mum had to have a special scan for her stress fractures - they had to inject some sort of dye for them to show up. Might be worthwhile doing something like that, just so you really know what you're working with. Try to see a specialist sports doctor if you can - they will be able to help you keep going with your training, and give you more of an idea about the affect it will have on race day.

Unfortunately there is not really a quick fix for stress fractures. You just have to give the bone time to fully heal before you put any more stress on it. If you overdo it, you're just going to turn that stress fracture into a full break and put yourself completely out of action (Mum did that on a previous occasion and couldn't even walk for about a month). Please don't do that! The good news is that stress fractures are quite easy to cross train with. You can still do swimming, cycling, elliptical training, plus any gym classes/strength training that you want. Mum has a program for the elliptical trainer that simulates a running program. She's also doing lots of walking (which is fine) to keep her body used to *some* impact.

Good luck, and keep us updated :goodvibes

Did the 7-miler with the MM today - AWFUL. The MM was 16 seconds slower than the last one and I felt wrecked when it was done. princess:

@Ariel484.....don't let one run ruin your training mojo. You Got This!

Question for you and others that are doing the MM. Have you done the MM in the past (for previous events)? How accurate was it compared to your actual results?

Hi,

I'm coming over to LA from Scotland for a week at the end of August and managed to get an entry for the half marathon. ( Past couple of years it has sold out before I got home from work to enter)

Today I booked the 10th anniversary party and the pasta in the park party.

Also booked my accommodation ( Monday to Friday at the Disneyland hotel - the weekend is sold out so I'm moving to the anaheim marriott.

This is my first disneyland HM but have done the WDW HM in 2011. Looking for a time of around 1hr50 (PB is 1hr40 but I am just looking forward to it)

Regards

Thanks! :goodvibes I feel like I am due for a good one!

This is my first time doing magic miles. Might be my last after today since I feel like they mess up my long runs. :sad2:
Everyone has off days with their training, don't let it get you down. And that is a VERY cute outfit :thumbsup2
Thank you!! :goodvibes

Welcome!! :yay:

Well after not running for four weeks due to a sprained ankle, I finally was able to get 3.5 in Sunday. Felt like the best 3.5 miles in my life. Hoping I continue to build back up after being off for so long. DLH plan is kind of shot but just happy to be back out here.

That's great news! There's still 10 weeks until Labor day - you've still got time to build back up.

I was hoping we might see medals today since it looked like they were released on Twitter last year on June 30.

But I'm guessing with Princess early registration and start of Marathon Weekend training plans, they want to hold on to the photos for a slow day. :(

Welcome back......glad that you had a great run. Time off and rest can do wonders for our bodies and our minds!

Are there any changing stalls or some private bathroom available at the finish line? Or are there only porta-potties?

I'm curious because I am usually drenched after a run and would love to at least change clothes before walking back to the hotel. Not to be disgusting but I'm talking 4 lbs of water or more - even after a 10k run for me - and Yes, I've weighted myself several times.

I don't remember anything like that at the finish line last year.

Which hotel are you staying at? If it's one of the closer hotels, you'd probably find it would take you just as long to get your gear check bag, find somewhere suitable to get changed, and get changed as it would to actually walk back to the hotel lol! Then you can immediately shower and really get comfortable too. If you're really concerned, you could always pack one of those microfiber mini towels (like facewasher size) and/or wet wipes in your running belt and have a quick wipe down before heading back.

Honestly though, there will be heaps of gross, sweaty people walking back after the race (me included!) - nobody will notice one more.

No changing stalls, but don't let that stop you. I simply change my shirt in the finish area. Lots of other people do too. My compression shorts don't soak as much as my shirt does, so I wait to change them until I'm back at the hotel.

I'm at the Hilton so I guess it's not that far to walk. I guess I was asking because I'll also be doing the Disney World Dopey in Jan and I figure to get back to whatever hotel I'll have at that time I will definitely be taking back a bus, or something and it feels dirty to do it all wet.

I stayed at the Disneyland hotel the Frontier Tower and the finish was right outside the back doors of the hotel for Tink , that is exactly where I'm staying again.
